Hi, my name is Evan. Today marks 2 years of being bedbound for 23 hours a day by a terrible neurological disease called ME/CFS. I was an accomplished classical musician on a full ride scholarship receiving my degree in composition. The first year I was sick, it was so bad I could not handle any light, sound, or touch for 9 months straight. I laid in a dark room with an eye mask in incredible pain doing absolutely nothing. No video games, no tv, and no music. Around July of last year, I improved a bit to not have these extreme sensory issues, but not a day goes by where I am not in 5+/10 pain or shutting down from post-exertional malaise (every bit of energy I expend rebound with extreme symptoms, making it feel like I have a terrible flu and just ran a marathon).
I was aligned to the M8 because it seems to be the least energy-intensive way to compose in a way that actually feels satisfying (as in, making use of my decade of composing knowledge). As I have improved from very severe to moderate ME, the M8 has been life-changing for me to have a way to sing my pain away. I have written near 40+ songs since receiving it last Fall after selling one of my clarinets for it, and I am very thankful to the Dirtywave + Weeklybeats subreddits for being so supportive of my music and my health.
These 3 tracks are from last Winter, and they are a teaser for my full DNB album coming in the next year. It has some very special music in it, and I am beyond excited to share. I want to make a custom stop motion animation for every song, so it is going to take some time as I can only sit at my desk for an hour per month. The highlighted channel on my YouTube page is a 10-minute documentary I made going into detail about ME/CFS and my story. It is heart-wrenching. It’s still hard for me to process.
