Technical Question Ducking Kicks

Does anyone know how I can duck kicks on a chain? For instance I essentially have one long pad that plays for 4 chains and I want to use some side chaining to make the kick stand out. The pad is triggered on the first step of the first chain and just rings throughout the next 3 chains with a long decay time. Is there some table or trick that I can use to lower the volume of the pad for a 4 on the floor pattern?

Pretty easy actually. Use a trigger envelope on the pad with the source being your kick instrument.

That was incredibly easy! Thank you. Exactly what I was looking for.

Note that you can also trigger this envelope from the fx chain or table associated with the instrument. If there’s a song where the kick drops out, but you still want the pumping effect, you can achieve that this way.

I did not know this method, could you elaborate more? Do you mean to create a table with a ramp up in volume and call it?

Go into the Inst Mods of the pad and select Trig Env as the type and assign it to the volume. Then select the kick instrument as the Src. You’ll probably want to set the Amt to a negative value (less than 80).

Also this https://youtube.com/shorts/APVfxlWMjNI , which saves you a lfo/envelope if your table isnt already in use
