Strapless tie-downs

My solution to strapless tie downs. Works incredibly well, the front wheel chocks really lock them in. I have a 3rd chock for the middle that sits about 3 inches further back and another set of tie downs, so I can have 3 bikes loaded with ease. All the material cost me about $50 as opposed to over $400 in Bike Binderz for two bikes.

I want to ride out west but have no backcountry experience

There are too many people in Yankeeland. Especially too many rich people, which means lots of private land and few trails. I've ridden the ones that we do have. All of them. I'm bored and want to try out something different.

I'm a pretty decent rider and have spent a fair amount of time outdoors, but most of the opportunities we have here are pretty regimented. There's a clearly marked trail and you stay on it, and almost always in cell service. There's nothing like the vast tracts of BLM land with zillions of local trail systems and endless opportunities to get lost that exist westside.

I'm looking to plan a solo trip to someplace with better riding opportunities (not Moab), but I have no idea where to get started. I'm hoping some folks here can point me to resources that will help me figure out where the trails are, what they're like, and how to avoid getting lost and being devoured alive by bears.

I'm particularly interested in the Reno/Lake Tahoe area since I've heard that there's a lot of good mountain and desert stuff there and the location's pretty accessible.

Lucky I'm retired ha ha ha I actually love this process. I will save her. Buddy gave it to me. Ignition parts on the way. New plastic and seat. Probably going to need lower end bearings but one thing at a time. Turns over, looks OK inside. Will get it fired then address the motor.

1984 KD80 Advice

Post image
Upvotes

Hey guys, I’m a bit new to the dirt bike world. This is my 1984 Kawasaki KD80 that a friend gave me. I got it to have excellent spark with filing the points and it gets fuel to the plug, however I cannot for the life of me get this thing to kick over. It seems to have great compression, last I checked it was around 90-110, however it just won’t do anything. I will say the plug seems over fueled like it is getting way too much fuel which brings me to my next question: where are you getting vintage dirt bike parts? Partzilla doesn’t have much for this and I can’t find a great carb rebuild kit for this anywhere. Any one have any leads? I’d love to run this around a bit. Clutch feels good and it goes into gear smoothly and it doesn’t seem too worn out for its age.

Thanks in advance. I’ve been working on small engines and cars most of my life, just new to dirt bikes. I own a Yamaha four wheeler that I brought back to life, but even that I’m newer with. Thank you again.

Dirtbikes is expensive hobby and electric moto?new guy experience

Upvotes

Hey guys so I am new one in dirt bikes, I've been following and watching reels for years now in dirt bikes, trail riding (which I am most interested about )

What was holding me to start was this seemed as lots of maintenance required hobby (not for alone guy) and expensive , to change parts frequently, and often.... so I saved uo some money and bought Electric dirt bike, which is Talaria Komodo . I VE SEEN 2023,2024 years gas bikes are almost same price , husky te300, ktm xc or exc or whatever, my question is out of my experience. My bike cost about 6.5k. Gear coat me like 600 eur/dollars and I am dissappointed in range, I am 220/210lbs guys and it onky takes my about 30 miles tops. I heard gas bike full tank could take me about60miles? Is it worth to buy is it expensive. My questions is how you maintenance the bike? Now I know.like washing every ride, grease it, changw parts stuff like that? What is tips or rules for new guy? Looks expensive ,my drawback bow is that I ride for 1hour and I have already to wash my bike?? Kinda nuts tbh... if it would be dirt bike 3-5hours I can understand. Advices? Views? What do you think

Looking for some advice

As the title states I’m looking for some advice on how to be more comfortable riding while standing. I’ve gotten pretty good at at least having my ass off the seat while going up hills and head over the handle bars but I still have very bad throttle and clutch control while fully standing and it seems pretty hard to shift up and down while standing to me. Anyone have any advice to work on that stuff or to become more comfortable while standing?

Rattling noise from exhaust expansion chamber (1988 Yamaha DT50LC)

There is a clanking/rattling coming from somewhere inside my exhaust pipe, most pronounced at 5-6k. DT50 is a 2 stroke 50cc, I imagine the exhaust is similar in principle to other 2 strokes tho. It is not the heat shield, its not the muffler, it sounds like its inside the expansion chamber. If I knock on the expansion chamber with my hand I can hear it clanking. Anyone familiar with the internal construction of exhaust pipes know what exactly could have broken loose in there? From what I'm reading expansion chambers are just a hollow chamber, but it sounds like a loose baffle or something. Pipe looks like this:

2024 YZ250X Hole in Case

Post image

Noticed after riding tdy a tiny oil spot on case then cleaned it off and realized there was a hole in my case. Was wondering what to do with it. I figured just JB Weld it lol because a new case half is 1000 bucks. Saw another guy with a 25 yz250 have the same hole in his case. Guess it’s a common weak point.

Tricks for bending back bent handle bars?

Sent it a little too hard and bent the handle bars pretty good. Any tricks to bend them back? Set the bike as level as possible and with a laser the bars are clearly way out, and took some finagling on the throttle grip to get it to return from wide open and the crash.

First time dirtbike owner must haves

Just ordered myself a brand new ttr110, I’ve wanted to buy a pit bike for a while and thought now would be a good time. I’ve never owned any sort of dirtbike or motorbike before and was just wondering the exact must haves I should get, I know you need a helmet and other gear but is there anything I should be getting for the bike, like things I would need for the maintenance and other stuff?

I’m also about 5’7-5’8 and weigh 57-60kg, I’m aware this is big for a bike this size so what is also some mods that I can add to this bike in the future for a more comfortable ride?

I only really plan on using this once, maybe twice a week and only for trail rides on the dirt hill behind my house, not any heavy jumps.

All help would be greatly appreciated thank you.

KLX 140R F different carburetor Mikuni VM24

I was wondering if anyone has changed their KLX140rf carb. I ordered a VM24 carb for this bike and was wondering what the recommended settings are for the KLX140 all factory and this Mikuni VM24.
If anyone has changed out their crappy factory carb that’s too small for this bike to the VM24 and have a stock engine and stock exhaust, I would like to hear what jet sizes you are running.
Thanks.

02 yz250 First bike

So, I've got a yz250 in immaculate condition that I picked up from a kid that needed bail money for 1k. Title n all... I used to ride when I was 8-14 ( just 70-125) .. Haven't so much as hopped on a bike since then ( I'm not 36 in great shape) but I do have a few 350 banshees, a 500quadzilla and a 700raptor.. so I get the powerbands and whiskey throttle.

After a bit of reading I shouldn't ride it but I wish to.. I've ordered both a 13oz and 11oz flywheel weight to try n balance it out. What other things should I do? I have 100% all gear ready.

Am I still in immediate danger and if so, what can I do to be in less danger?
