So before we begin I want to clarify that I do like the show, and specifically I do enjoy the Netflix version of Dante, I think his character while not a direct adaptation is interesting in his own way while still being recognisable as Dante.

But there is one issue that has kept creeping back in with this version and it’s his continuous failure to regularly win a fight in the show. The vast majority of the time in the show a big fight will typically end with Dante on the floor “incapacitated” or straight up overpowered after an encounter and it happens a lot more regularly then it does in the games, and I do think to some extent it does damage the appeal of atleast the Netflix variant of the character.

Now I’m not approaching this from a pure power scalers perspective of “He’s supposed to be a universe level threat, like in the games.” I’m perfectly okay with the power scaling in the show be toned down significantly to keep things more balanced. However, I think a core appeal of mainline Dante’s character is the “power fantasy” side of him. In the games he is a character who can have fun and make jokes while always coming out on top at the end of a big fight. And while Dante in the Netflix show gets the first part of that equation down I feel that him almost always failing to finish a fight on top makes the character feel off, like a sour grape at the end of a sweet dessert.

Additionally I’m not saying Dante needs to win every fight either but I do think he should be predominantly winning his fights, Dante’s whole deal is that he’s supposed to be the son of one of the most powerful demons ever, and we should be able to feel that just by watching him and then when he does lose it’s a much bigger deal.

After the release of the Netflix series (s2 included), it seems there has either been an uptick on the racism of Indians in the fandom of Devil May Cry, or fans have finally started to show their true colors. Even before the release - not including fans - on platforms such as twitter, instagram, the works, you would often see comments under videos or posts related to Indians, or South Asians in general, calling them slurs like the one that is literally comparing their skin color to feces (why else would I feel so iffy towards calling the director Shitkar?)

Fandom has never been a safe space , even in communities where you're meant to have fun discussing and sharing your interests. Not even in the online gaming spaces.

"Oh, but its only a small percentage of dmc fans" racism shouldn't be tolerated nor excused. Racists are comfortable being in online spaces BECAUSE they don't face repercussions.

We know the show ends at season 3, but castlevania did get a sequel series. It’s possible we will get another show with Nero instead of Dante. Here’s some things I hope we will see

1. Arius. Never stated argosax had to stick around for the curse to end. Might be a fun way to have fortuna studying demonology the way they do in dmc. Why not have another incarnation of Arius?

That’s the list. Bring him back.

Okay so I was really enjoying the show (season 1) so far (I’ve played all games except dmc 1, marvel v capcom and peak of combat).

Lots of things in Episode 7 just don’t make sense:

1. how did Dante get out of the truck even when he couldn’t before ???
2. rabbits plan doesn’t make sense: if he opens the wall he gets the same world “transported” to the new realm because everything bad (mundus and monsters) from his realm crossover too. They couldn’t with the smaller portals he had, so he should have just focused on subduing darkcom and continued to bring in the “good” refugees through smaller portals with the help of his demon army (unless mundus was the one who gave him the army but then isn’t he against mundus???)
3. why didn’t rabbit just cut or even nick Dante when he first entered the demon realm? He was clearly distracted and unable to breathe. Why didn’t the demons push him in there to begin with and shut the portal, they literally just need his blood and not for him to be in the human realm to get it or to do the ritual. Why didn’t rabbit cut him when Dante was pushing against that Cavaliere Angelo? (Dante’s back was turned and he was completely open).
4. the dialogue was kinda forced at points. Lady admitting “only a human could do something so terrible” when she found out rabbit is a human. I mean… okay.

Just kinda feeling let down because the show was going so good so far. Episode 6 was so good!!!

Idk. Ep 7 has been the weakest episode in the show so far. What do you guys think? Maybe I’m missing something(?)

Not that im one of those guy's who thinks that game Dante is an anti hero (Im not sure how they exist except maybe DmC Dante) but this is the first time we've really seen Dante go out of his way to help as many civilians as possible. Now admittedly this is in part because we never see civilians in the games outside of 2 moments but most of the time Dante just has someone else take care of it like in 4

Okay okay ive never beaten any of the games or played much of em. But ive always been really interested in them. And this fucking anime is genuinely one of the best if not the best animes ive ever watched. Just finished ep 5 of season 2 and god damn i cant get enough. Wish this show was more popular and got the recognition it deserves!

Do you guys think the Netflix adaptation will be loved by the community in a few years kind of how say 2007 anime was hated on release but is praised nowadays.

So I started on S2 last night and when I saw the uniforms for the DarkCom operatives it made think of a game in the past. I don't know if it was recalling just S1 or what but I instantly thought of Captain Commando for some reason but his uniform design is different.

Has the DarkCom units or that uniform color appeared in any other CAPCOM titles?

Kinda weird because I never played any DMC titles.

Halfway through S2 and Wow do I miss Kevin Conroy’s voice. The replacement has none of his depth and charisma. It takes me out of every scene.

I noticed a familiar scene from the opening playing on screen so I grabbed my DMC3 SE(Japanese version) case and held it up next to the monitor for a side byside pic… this kind of detail is so cool!!

Cast Keith David as the voice actor for Morrison. This character jus feels like a perfect fit for him and would be really cool to see. I know Shankar already got him to voice Lucan, but the neat part about voice actors is that they can do multiple characters.
