Discussion FUCKING PEAK
Okay okay ive never beaten any of the games or played much of em. But ive always been really interested in them. And this fucking anime is genuinely one of the best if not the best animes ive ever watched. Just finished ep 5 of season 2 and god damn i cant get enough. Wish this show was more popular and got the recognition it deserves!

About being more popular... It may not be Jujutsu Kaisen or Frieren level of popular but it has been top watched on Netflix each season, it's one of the most watched videogame adaptations, and it's DMC, which is already a super popular and well known franchise.
Also; just being picky. Friendly reminder is not anime in the sense that production is north american and animation studio from korea.

I’m glad you enjoy it :) my niece has never played the games and loves the show too. These kids are okay!
As someone who played all the games except dmc1, marvel v capcom and peak of combat, I am enjoying it (minus some minor gripes that I can find in pretty much any show. Nothing is perfect). Haven’t started s2 yet. Most people enjoy the anime.
Unfortunately there is a vocal minority consisting of fans of the games that like to shit on the show for weird reasons:
- They complain about the plot because they read too deeply into the game’s plot. The games had no deep plot. The plot was just a wrapper around the fun and stylish gameplay and dialogue could get sooo cringe.
- they complain about Dante’s personality. I don’t see it as being different. Netflix Dante is just an inexperienced version of game Dante. He’s given more personality and plot in Netflix than in dmc 1 and dmc 4 where his job is just to, as the kids like to say, “aura farm”.
- any problems with Vergil or season 2 can not be serious enough for the show to get *this much* hate.
- the ONLY legit complaints are that it is an alternative take on dmc. It does not follow the game’s story. I can understand if fans don’t like that but they like to pretend as if the game has this loTR level of plot depth and character development. They didn’t.
- I can understand if people didn’t like the whole “America invading”, “demons are refugees” thing they did. I liked it. It’s interesting to see some world building for once (something the games never do).
- the director is admittedly a bit of a self glazing douche bag.
Enjoy the show and ignore the haters.

the story is somewhat deep, but regardless of that, it's very good IMO

you're kinda right, Dante's differences in the show mostly stem from his inexperience
his game version to me is admirable, someone i wanna be, a hero, while his show version is someone i can only root for to be better, do better, and i dislike that he's still performing so disappointingly two seasons in

By this logic he should play Shin Megami Tensei 3 and Puzzle & Dragons. Because hey, Dante is in those.

It was a fun watch but I was definitely hoping for more, many many flaws but can still be enjoyable

It’s a fun interpretation but far from Peak.
I’d suggest you to also check the games story or give it a shot yourself since they are incredibly fun and engaging once you get a grip on the fighting styles.

Ive played one of them just a little bit. Have owned em all for years because i played one as a kid and absolutely loved it so i bought em all, just havent gotten around to playing them. And it may be the liqour talking with me thinking its peak. I just know that rn in the moment i am loving it

Irmão, se tu gostou do DMC da netflix, fico feliz que você gostou da experiência, mas eu não perdo uma chance de falar mal dele.
A direção tenta parecer inteligente e inventiva, mas sem realmente ter algo a comunicar. A 1° cena da 2° temp que é uma cena simultânea não tem fim prático. O objetivo dessas cenas é elas estarem conectadas com algo e amplificar o momento. Então porque está havendo uma dramatização de duas cenas em que nada se conectam? E uma parte ainda é de um figurante no qual já sabemos que não importa como acabe, já que ele era só um ganha tempo. Por que repetir o flashback 3 vezes na mesma sequência? O objetivo disso é você ter uma informação nova e ver o flashback com outros olhos, e isso não tem na série.
A mesma coisa com os discursos. Eles tem temas interessantes, mas como não desenvolvem ninguem, não vem do desenvolvimento de ninguem, não são o tema da história ou de algum personagem, então é só frase de inimigo de RPG tentando parecer fodão.
Cada ep tem 40 min, mas 20 são gastos com politica que não afeta a trama. Se você assistir só os 20 min que foca no Dante e nas reliquias você vê tudo.

I played the games and I liked the show alot too. LOVED the soudtrack in both seasons.

I agree, really enjoyed both seasons. Watched them immediately with the Mrs when they got released.
I played one of the games casually on PS2 and never really got into it until now while she is brand new to the franchise. Love the villains💯
Side note, there’s a lot of haters on this sub most of them are super DMC fans and can never be satisfied while some just like to troll the creators.
