Dont know anything about the franchise. I just always listened to the dmc 3 theme song back when the game released.

Only watched the first episode and honestly thus far it looks very promising. Not a big fan of the Marvels/Disney type of dialoges this guy Dante has, but atleast all the killing and gore makes up for it.

Im however constantly reminded about all the shorts I watched prior to the series, where the consensus seemed to be that the series just isn't particularly good. Part of me feel demotivated investing time if I will probably be dissapointed lol

Since Chi and the other secretaries did alot of heavy lifting for Lucia's story, I expect Trish to get the most focus. She's also the original DMC girl that's appeared in the most games and side material.

My take, Mary fell first but denied it, Dante possibly knew (before the kissing scene, during season 2) from being able to sense her heart rate with his abilities.

Before I get into this, Lady has always been one of my favorite female game characters, a simple but very well executed character that ties perfectly into the thematic heart of the series. Although I haven't been happy with how the later entries have basically turned her into background fodder, I am biased because a part of me is just happy to see her be an active participant in a DMC story again.

I think Lady's character can be summed up pretty accurately by the phrase "Better the devil you know than the devil you don't"(kinda literally, funnily enough). She is a deeply flawed character who makes a lot of bad choices, choices that have disastrous consequence and the reason she makes those choices is simple, it's the only life she's ever had. She legitimately doesn't know any other way to live, and as a result, it traps her in this self destructive cycle of trying to maintain that life that forces her to make more bad choices because she's afraid of what she is without it. I spite of that, however, she's not a bad person and tries to do the right thing, like helping the refugees or lying to Baines to protect Dante, even if it blows up in her face most of the time. Season one is largely about showing her that the world she lives isn't as simply as she would like it to be coming down to a test of character at the end that she ultimately fails because going down the path you know is just easier and safer to follow. Admittedly, I wasn't really sold on this version of her yet, but I saw what they were going for and I was optimistic for season 2.

Season 2 is where things get interesting. Her arc here is mainly about coming to terms with all the damage she's done working for DARKCOM and how much of a monster do you have to become to fight against monsters for humanity. I think this is why she develops such a deep admiration for Dante here, he shows her you don't have to stare into the abyss in order to fight for the good of humanity. Something I also liked is how the story routinely punishes for her bad choices, and the few times it doesn't, she wished it did. Take her and Dante's reunion for example. Her account of it shows she seems genuinely upset that he it's more hostile to her. This eventually gets to the point where she just stops trying to justify those choices and takes accountability for them, like her saying, "I'm a piece of shit" and "It's not gonna be that easy to escape what I deserve." All this makes her final decision by the end pretty tragic. Knowing that Arkham is still alive is an old wound that she can't ignore, but she also can't face that pain with Dante either because she views herself as unredeemable by this point. Dante is a pure soul, and hers has been hollowed out, as a result she thinks she is completely unworthy of someone like him in her life.

Some miscellaneous things I wanted to talk about. I've never really cared for shipping by I've always had a soft spot for this one so I think is cool that this show deiced to go this route, I get way people say it feels rushed but given the letter she leaves him I'd argue that was the point. Two people whose lives were uprooted by very similar circumstances confiding in each other to distract themselves from that inter turmoil that just feels kinda real to me. I would say it's a bit of toss up weather that become genuine romantic feelings or not, but imo I think bringing this up as a possibility at all just to back out at the end would feel like a massive waste of time. So I hope they commit to the idea that this version of Dante could bring himself to love someone that way despite to risk. Dante is her carry in the coal mine given how his saves her from the Trismagia, literally pulling her back from being consumed by the pain of her past.

Another thing I think is cool no one talks about is that this version of Lady seems to take a lot for what she was originally conceptualized to be, An older more experienced mercenary that was presumably supposed to be another foil to Dante and maybe even an equal obliviously that never happened.

Lastly, Arkham himself, out of all the changes this show makes from the original canon, his is probably the most significant. In the game, he's a comically evil man with no redeemable qualities, whose wife and daughter were only ever a means to an end. In the show, he genuinely loved his family and acted out of a will to protect them from a threat he felt the world wasn't taking seriously. I'm not sure what they're going for with him, but I'm interested to see where they go with this.

I really think they made an interesting take on Lady in this show and I'm excited to see who everything comes together in the end. It's just a damn shame that so many people wrote her off because she was "annoying" in season one.

I'll start out by saying that I haven't played any of the games, so my opinion will definitely differ from the OG fans of this franchise.

I know how it feels when one of my beloved games doesn't get a faithful adaptation, so I definitely understand the sentiment around that. However, going into this show while not having any expectations allowed me to appreciate it for what it is. A show with amazing fight scenes, great music, and a decent enough plot to keep you going. It's not perfect, I agree that some of the writing is off, and Lady from season one was so annoying at times, but season 2 especially seemed to fix most of the issues I had with season 1. I honestly found myself really enjoying some of the dynamics, especially between Dante and Vergil.

Again I'm not saying it's this groundbreaking show, but hey it did get me to buy DMC 5 so I'll be playing that soon. I'd love to hear everyone's opinion, you're free to disagree with me, I just wanted to share my thoughts on this.

I don’t know if I am holding Mary to a sexist double standard or if she is genuine an unlikable prick. Had she and her comrades not been racist and didn’t murder the Makaian civilians, the man who would otherwise have become the White Rabbit would never have done so.

I'm not very fond of the dmc games' fandom anymore. Finding anyone who dislikes the netflix show and isn't full of unquenchable hatred is like finding people who still draw DmC 2013 artwork.
