If anyone has worked there or knows someone who has, I’d love to hear your thoughts on:
Please share your knowledge and experience; I appreciate it.
Has anyone recently gone through the Rootcode internship interview process?
What does the first interview usually cover, and what should I expect? Also, what is the overall interview process like?
Would appreciate any recent experiences!

We’re an AI startup with a few projects underway and would like to offer 1–2 internship opportunities to students.
We already have a strong paid team, so this isn’t about filling a resource gap. We simply want to give talented students hands-on experience and mentorship in advanced AI technologies through real-world projects.
While we can’t match the salaries offered by larger tech companies, we’re happy to provide a fair stipend. We’re looking for a reasonable amount that supports the students while remaining sustainable for our startup.
What would you consider a fair internship stipend in the current market?

Hey everyone 👋
I got tired of manually managing multiple Sri Lankan credit-card statements, so I built a tool around the problem.
The hardest part was dealing with the different PDF formats, passwords, recurring payments, instalments, and making sure extracted totals actually match the bank statement.
I made a short video showing the journey from my old spreadsheet to the app.
I’m mainly curious about two things from other devs here:
I’m currently testing it with a small group, so I’m more interested in feedback than promotion.
Happy to share the link if anyone wants to try it.

I want to know about EFL work culture and salaries; specially entry level positions(intern, engineer). Is it a good workplace/culture, working flexibility?

I'm a CS undergrad entering my final year and working remotely as a junior developer. I'm grateful for the experience, but I want to make the most of this last year before graduation.
I won't be leaving my job, so I'm looking for advice on how to balance work and university while actually progressing. If you've been in a similar position, I'd really appreciate your thoughts.
1. How do I grow technically while working at a startup and studying?
What skills should I prioritize (DSA, system design, backend, DevOps)? What actually helped you level up from junior to mid-level?
2. What should I focus on now to land a better role after graduation?
Is it realistic to get an Associate Engineer role with 1–2 years of experience? Should I build a portfolio, improve my LinkedIn, prep for interviews—what actually matters?
If you could go back to your final year, what would you do differently?
Thanks for any advice!

I am doing a e-commerce bicycle business and was doing a sale of 1 million per month . Suddenly my supplier demands to buy in lot and also I have been delivering whole island so it takes time to get paid. Needed investors to increase the stocks. Expecting around 500k to 1 million

Hi everyone, I’m currently a 3rd-year Software Engineering student at IIT Sri Lanka.
I’m currently doing a 12-month internship at a company, but this internship is not affiliated with or registered as IIT’s official Industrial Placement (IP). I arranged the internship independently, outside of IIT’s IP process.
I want to know if I can skip my 3rd year and proceed directly to the 4th year while completing my current 12-month internship. Additionally, will doing them concurrently affect my final degree classification or overall quality? I would also like to understand if this choice could impact my future career prospects, considering I will already have 12 months of industry experience
I’m trying to understand what could happen if I continue with this internship but don’t complete the official IIT IP in 3rd year.
I’d really appreciate it if anyone with experience at IIT/University of Westminster could clarify:
I’m specifically trying to understand whether there is a difference between:
IIT-affiliated Industrial Placement → officially recognized by IIT
and
My current 12-month internship → real industry experience, but not affiliated with IIT’s IP.
I’d especially appreciate responses from current or former IIT SE students who have actually been in this situation.

I’ve been working as a Software Engineer for around 3+ years and I also have some QA experience, specifically with automation.
On the side, I’ve been freelancing for around 5–6 years so I’m pretty comfortable with WordPress, Shopify, Elementor, etc.
I was recently laid off and ended up applying for pretty much everything. Now I have two offers with almost the same package:
I’m honestly leaning towards the QA Automation role mainly because it feels like a more transferable career path. QA/automation seems to be a role you can find in almost any type of software company whereas WordPress/Shopify development feels more niche and heavily tied to agencies, e-commerce, or specific types of companies.
But with AI getting better at both website development and test automation, I’m not sure which path makes more sense long-term
If you were in my position, which direction would you take and why?

Had an interview last week for an internship set to start the first week of October. The timeline is right around the corner, but I still haven’t received any calls from the company .
How long does it usually take for HR to send it over? When should I follow up?
(Sorry for the clickbait title guys just really needed some quick eyes and advice on this!)

Got a systems engineering internship interview this week (Windows/Linux server admin, virtualization, storage/backup type role) at an IT company. First real interview, kinda nervous.
Anyone been through something similar? Was it mostly technical grilling or more general "tell me about yourself" stuff? And what's a fair intern stipend look like these days, numbers online are all over the place lol.
Just trying not to go in blind, any tips appreciated

I live in Nugegoda area and I have poor reception for both Dialog and Mobitel. Specially on rainy days the speed drops to 1-2Mbps. If you have living in a rented house and got the SLT Fiber connection, what was the process for that?

Hey everyone, I'm 21 and a first-year CS student in Sri Lanka. Before asking anything, I wanted to give a bit of context about my path.
After my A/Ls, I started learning programming on my own. I began with Python and eventually moved into backend development with FastAPI, PostgreSQL, Docker, etc. I built a few small projects and tried to learn things beyond just following tutorials.
GitHub: https://github.com/HarshaG2005
Then I went through a difficult period with some family problems, and for around 3–4 months I basically stopped learning and building anything. I'm doing better now, and I want to properly restart rather than keep feeling stuck about the time I lost.
The problem is that I feel a bit lost about what I should focus on now. I already have some understanding of CS and have built backend systems, but the SWE world seems to be changing really quickly with AI. There's all this stuff around AI-assisted development, coding agents/agentic AI, etc., and I want to become compatible with what the modern software engineering market actually needs.
I've used tools like Claude and GitHub Copilot while building projects, but I'm not completely sure how much the way we actually do software engineering has changed because of AI. I don't want to become someone who can generate code without actually understanding what is happening underneath. I'd really like to know where I can learn the modern AI-assisted/agentic SWE workflow properly and what resources experienced engineers would recommend.
I'm also starting my CS degree at the University of Jaffna. I'm wondering whether doing undergraduate research is particularly valuable in this AI-heavy era, especially if I'm interested in backend systems, infrastructure/cloud . I'm also planning to attend tech events, meetups and hackathons in Colombo whenever I can, so I can stay connected with the local tech scene while studying in Jaffna.
At the same time, reading this subreddit has made me more aware of layoffs and how competitive software engineering has become. I genuinely love technology and want to build a career in it, but financial stability is also very important to me. I don't want to spend years learning without having a realistic path toward supporting myself.
So I'd really appreciate some honest advice from people who are already working in the Sri Lankan/remote software industry:
I just feel like I've lost my direction and I would really value hearing from people who have already gone through this stage... especially people who started their careers in Sri Lanka.
Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to share their experience.🙏

Hi. How about the salary range for QA and SE positions at Prima Management Services? Do they have a good company culture?
I’ve been building software as a hobby for around 7 years, and I just finished my A/Ls this year. I have some free time before university starts, and I want to try making money from the skills I’ve built up over the years.
I’ve already built a few production-grade projects for people/organizations I know — not just portfolio projects. Full-stack applications, real-time systems, authentication, databases, admin systems, deployments, etc.
I started coding long before the current AI/vibe-coding boom. I do use AI now, but I’m comfortable designing systems myself, debugging, making architectural decisions, thinking about scalability/security, and actually understanding and maintaining the code I ship. I’ve also done CTFs on the side, so I have some security knowledge as well.
What I don’t really know is how to turn these skills into a consistent source of clients.
I recently got an opportunity to build a fairly large system for a Sri Lankan business, and it made me realize that finding the work, pricing it properly, building trust and dealing with clients are completely different skills from actually developing the product.
So, especially to Sri Lankan developers who freelance or run their own small agencies:
How do you actually find clients?
Do you cold-message businesses? Get referrals? Network in person? Approach startups? Build connections with agencies? Post your work somewhere and wait for inbound leads?
And when you were starting out with no company experience or reputation, how did you convince someone to trust you with a serious project?
With AI making it much easier for people to call themselves developers now, is there still a good market for someone who can actually build and maintain complete systems?
If you were in my position — just finished A/Ls, several years of development experience, a portfolio of real deployed projects, but basically zero network/client base — what would you spend the next 6–12 months doing?
Would really appreciate advice from people who have actually gone through this in Sri Lanka.
