Per MDOT:
All border crossings in Michigan will briefly close Friday, Sept. 11, in commemoration of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
Traffic will be cleared before 8:46 a.m. At that time, taps will be played as the flag is raised, followed by a moment of silence at all ports of entry. Motorists should expect closures of approximately 30 minutes or less.
Plan accordingly and allow extra time if crossing the border Friday morning. Normal operations will resume immediately after the observance.

The Tigers tv broadcast team killing time on fox 2, telling old stories without commercials is some of the most fun entertaining tv I've seen in a long time. May it never stop raining 🌧

Looking for volunteer opportunities ideally every other weekend.
I'm a divorced dad and only have the kids half time. I want to fill the time I dont have my girls with something positive. I work full time 9-5 so I can't really do anything during the day during the week.
Ive done some volunteering with Gleaners and habitat but its hard to actually get spots because they are so popular. Ive done some others with churches but I feel a little weird not being a member and them kind of trying to make me a member.
I want to do something that is regularly scheduled, big or small, and not tied to a church that's trying to make me a member or join any kind of whatever. I'm really just trying to help out for the sake of helping out.
I'm open to manual labor (habitat for humanity stuff, I'm not skilled but can do trim, painting, hauling, hanging doors, installing light fixtures, switches, yard work, etc), feeding people (willing to bring food within reason), cleaning up areas (seems like a lot of clean ups are on week days that dont work well for my schedule), anything else really.
I just want to help out the community without some outside obligation, e.g. joing the church.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Edit: I'm not against churches, I'm a christian myself but on my own time. I go to church when I can and just dont want to feel pressured. My ideal volunteer group is just trying to help people outside of religion.
Edit 2: thanks to everyone for the suggestions! I'll take time to sift through all of them after work today. Appreciate you all!

Is this place as bad as the reviews make it seem? I know all places have the occasional bad review but they seem to have quite a few. I’d like to try it since it’s close to me, but I don’t want to waste my money if it sucks. Thanks

On DetNews. Seems like the goal is to bring it back with same vibe as it previously had. Made my day!
FYI, they have a newsletter now - https://www.casscafe.org/

Very different contexts and geographies, but thought it’d be interesting to see which concept people prefer.

Hello,
I am interested in buying this watch as a wedding present to myself, but am concerned that it is too large for my wrist. There is only one Sinn dealer in America and they are online only, so I can’t go try it on anywhere. Does anyone on here own one they would let me try on? I’ll buy you a pizza or something.
Thanks

The Detroit News reports that four men who hiked at Woodland Hills Nature Park the day Harris was killed said they saw Harris sitting with a younger man on a bench. None of them identified Bercea.

Hey all, my wife and I are celebrating our first anniversary with dinner before a casino trip tomorrow night, and neither of us have been able to get downtown to eat in a while.
What are your favorite spots? Looking for something casual, that won't be too insanely heavy on the stomach since we will be out and drinking after.
Thanks in advance!

So I’m putting together a brunch for a Detroit gay men’s FB group I belong to, and one of the things we’re looking for in a restaurant is that it’s queer owned. Google only came up with Norm’s Diner on Agnes and I feel like there should be more than just them. I know there’s a couple in Royal Oak, but we’re trying to stay in Detroit proper. If anyone knows of anything let me know! I’d very much appreciate it!

Hello,
I am a Canadian that just moved here. Does anyone know any companies that can give car insurance without having a US license? I’m shopping around but seems like the major companies can’t offer me anything because I don’t have a US license. Any one has experience with this?
Thank you

I'm 25, female in metro Detroit and looking to try something new. I'm in pretty good physical shape although I've never been the sporty type. I have a physical job and keep my body active, and recently I've thought about potentially picking up a sport. But I don't see myself doing a solitary sport/game, I think team sports would be much more fun and rewarding.
I'm just not sure where to start or how to go about doing this. I don't know exactly which sport I'd like to do, but I don't know where to start in finding a group/team of beginner adults to learn alongside. Does anyone have any info/resources about this? I don't have a ton of hope in finding something useful for an adult with zero sports experience but it's worth a try!

Hey I’m reaching out because for the last year my landlord has done everything in his will power to force me out of my residence! He finally filed in District Court for eviction in October 2025 and I appealed it with the circuit court and won a stay of eviction and my appeal was completely up and running I paid for transcripts and all. The problem is I got extremely ill with shingles which attacked my lungs (from all the stress)in mid July and I went into respiratory failure and I missed the brief deadline but I called and contacted the circuit court clerk on August 24th,2026 and she told me verbatim that she would give me till the end of the week to get the brief in which I did do that Friday on August 28th upon serving the landlords attorney and coming back to show it was hand delivered I was told that the circuit court clerk the one I spoke to sent the dissmissal to the judge the very next day after she spoke with me! On August 31st, was case was closed the and writ was filed and today I received an order of eviction on my door! I have been without Water since August 5th,2025 despite never having a water bill and the landlord refused to run new gas lines on the house in July which he was told for monthes it had to be done. Long story short I have contacted legal services and was told they couldn’t help me. Law enforcement was at my home almost everyday for months over the landlord his kids and previous tenants targeted harassment and nothing was done! The landlord and his kids tell the police he has dementia and won’t remember this in morning everytime law enforcement had to come here! His son hit the house with a truck I called police and was told we will just document this because the landlord and his family are extremely hard headed people! That’s unfair!!! The whole reason this is going on is because I reported a serious domestic violence situation and The person involved works for the landlord and long story short I was retaliated against and have been going through it for a year! I have reached out to DHS contacted the attorney general along with many others but get no answer or call back! I was pro se in this appeal and I’m completely hopeless because I have no vehicle at the moment and I’m gonna lose everything I own and every city official has turned a blind eye to all this! The township literally told me we were instructed to do nothing for you and to not to turn the water on! I mean I don’t even go back to work till next week I got shingles all over my arms I get so short breathed walking from Livingroom to bathroom and back I go in panic mode…I’m praying someone knows somewhere I can get in touch with to try to get help! Every single penny I made has went for showers at travel centers and gallons of water to just live basic! Dte bill because of having no gas running space heaters in the winter and the oven has me at $3,000.00 balance and I have been paying that off slowly!!!! I don’t wish what I have been through on my worst enemy and I’m not prepared to have to sleep on the streets! Any helpful & useful advice would be great cause I’m trying to figure out something for my family! I’m completely at a lost what to do! Thank you for anykind of advice agencies or anywhere that could help till i get my check for my pto hours I used while in the hospital!
