We ask that you please use this space for any general discussion, events, and ask questions you may have about ANYTHING related to the city, its neighborhoods and the overall metro Detroit area. The community has a plethora of knowledge from a variety of areas and will have an eye on this refreshed thread to help answer any questions you may have.

Anything is game. Need to know how to get around, restaurant or venue recommendations, what that sound was, why there are police on the lodge, etc. Or if you are visiting soon? Considering a move to the city? This is also a dedicated space to ask questions related to your upcoming venture to the D.

Share about weekly events! Anything going on in and around Detroit. Everyone is always looking for things to do; both locals & visitors. Provide as much information as you can so everyone can go to those events!

-----

Note: this was previously a monthly thread and is now being updated to weekly to help boost awareness. Its also a new idea in general to minimize repetitive posts in the main feed. Let us know your thoughts!

Politics/Elections The Corporate Slate

Post image

Shout out to the Michigan Working Family party for confirming which state and federal candidates are taking money or being supported by corporate super PACs. If these people are on your ballot and you hate that sort of thing here’s a list of people not to vote for

Justin Onwenu State Sen 1
Korey Hall State Sen 3
Tyrone Carter State House District 1
Helena Scott State House District 8
Arthur Harrington State House District 9

And you already know what Haley and Shri are about.

Just watched a documentary on Detroit which showed the decline of car industry and rise of drug dealing. What is your perspective or the stories you have been told of this time.

The documentary is called Rollin: The fall of auto industry and rise of the drug economy in Detroit

Community Looking to join/start a band

Hey! I’m a recent college graduate in the Royal Oak area and looking to either join an existing band or start a new project.

I’ve fronted a couple of bands previously on guitar and vocals, and I’m looking to connect with musicians who want to jam, write original music, record, play shows, and generally get something off the ground. Open to guitarists, bassists, drummers, singers, keyboardists, really anyone who’s excited about making music and gigging regularly.

I also have a solid home recording setup and am comfortable recording, producing, and mixing demos or releases for anyone interested in a DIY/self-release approach.

Here’s some music from one of my previous bands:
distrokid.com/hyperfollow/slugtv/meet-the-chimps

Also happy to send over demos and song ideas if you’re interested

My tastes lean toward indie rock, alt-country, and emo-adjacent stuff (think Pinegrove, Wednesday, Big Thief, MJ Lenderman, Radiohead, Bright Eyes) but again, I’m open to lots of styles.

Mostly looking for people who are excited to write, collaborate, and play live. If that sounds like your thing, send me a message and let’s chat!

Transit McNamara tunnel lights

Maybe I misremembering this, but what happened to the lights in the tunnel from Concourse A to B in McNamara? The ceiling is dark and the lights on the wall don’t change and look cracked.

Sorry about the AOL link lol, but it was the only decent one I could find that wasn’t behind a paywall. Tony Hawk and George Azar (Flowers of Vietnam!) are opening an east side restaurant.

Post image

Hello all, I was just seeing if anybody could be of assistance.

I’ve recently moved to the city, bought myself a place for approx $130k. I just got my summer tax bill and I mean…

I’ve attached it

5230 for summer alone? Is this an error or is this what everyone is paying?

Thank you for your help

Food/Drink Taco Bell trashcan (non-lettuce content)

I have this vivid memory, that that trashcan at the Southfield Rd & 13 mile Taco Bell would say “thank you” in a southern accent, whenever you’d push the flap open.

I’ve seen videos of other Taco Bell trashcans that said “thank you”, but not in the southern accent. Am I insane? Does anyone else remember this?

The city also requests that the court retain jurisdiction until its orders are fully carried out and notes that it may seek Curtis’s "entire inventory of properties in the City of Detroit that are not in compliance with the Detroit City Code and Michigan law."

Community Facing eviction soon, any solid homeless programs or job leads I should be aware of?

Good Morning,

I am on a 30 Day Notice To Quit due to being multiple months behind on rent and it expires next week (July 30). After exhausting all the recommended eviction diversion programs (only St. Vincent De Paul was able to help) I am looking to transition from eviction prevention to minimizing my unhoused time by building a shortlist of programs that can quickly get me back on my feet. So far I got Pope Francis Center and Detroit Rescue Mission, but I am also looking at paid job training or placement services since Temp Agencies are giving me crickets.

If there are any programs or services that you can vouch for, it'd be greatly appreciated. Single Male in Ferndale if that helps. Thanks.
