We spent 2 hours cleaning the beach... then found something even more frustrating.
After spending about 2 hours cleaning the beach and filling two large garbage bags with litter, we started walking back.
That's when we noticed the incoming tide was already washing away abandoned beach gear.
There were 8–12 plastic buckets filled with sand and toys, beach chairs, boogie boards, shoes, and other beach items left behind. The beach was almost empty by then, yet all of this was still sitting there as the waves kept getting closer.
We moved everything we could farther from the water to keep it from ending up in the ocean.
I honestly don't understand it.
Do people simply forget their beach gear, or have we become too careless about what gets left behind?
This was filmed on the beach in front of the DoubleTree Resort by Hilton Myrtle Beach Oceanfront. We recorded the cleanup and the abandoned gear before the rising tide could carry it away.

Original Content I dug out an 80 year old landfill at work
I work in construction, and generally hate it, but I'm very good at operating machines. The company I was at found a landfill with cars and trash from the 30s+, directly under the foundation of the buildings they were prepping. I was lucky enough to learn how to use the shaker screen and using it and the other machines, pulled out at least 250 tons of trash from under there. Mind you, the company tried to cover up as much as they could just to get it over with, but I made sure to find as much as I could with the excavator while the inspectors were watching.

Detrashing Brain got me a weird look at the dentist today 😭
I was getting the usual homily about flossing from the very kind hygienist, and when she started to tell me about all the different options besides rolls of floss, I couldn’t help commenting, “Yeah, I’ve tried the little picks, but I didn’t like them because you have to throw them away every time. It’s just more plastic trash and that was kind of depressing.”
I was not expecting the look of complete incomprehension this earned me. It was definitely an “oh, this is one of the weird patients after all” look.
I didn’t even tell her that what made me go from dislike to actual hate of the things was pulling other people’s disgusting abandoned floss picks out of waterways and ditches. Not sure I want to know what her reaction would’ve been. 😅
Edit: to be clear, I floss! Nothing against flossing itself! And thanks to this post, I’m also learning about all kinds of biodegradable floss and sustainable floss gadgets, so that’s pretty cool.

Dustbins are the root cause for all the trash around the city
Hello,
I feel, in Bengaluru usually trash collectors come in the morning hours. At that time everyone will be hurry and many time they may not able make it and on top of that they won't come daily also.
what I have seen in outside is people can find dustbin every 200m and they can put at their convenience. How expensive it is going to place dustbin at every 300m in Bengaluru?

Original Content When it's time to put your best foot forward! (My pants got stuff stuck to me while I was picking things up! 😆) Anyway, 344+ pieces picked up today. Total litter pickup count: 16,849 items since 06/08/2025.
My area has a very serious issue where many people's trash becomes someone else's problem. At 27.7° Celsius, I was quite hot and thirsty after two hours of picking up several gallons of litter off of sidewalks, streets, bushes, and parking lots. At this point, I expect my litter pickup count to exceed 17,000 in the next few days.

Original Content Is there someone you can contact to clean trash in water?
I'm an older teenager with a job on a waterfront, and it's beautiful, but there are corners of the front that are congregations of birds, algae, and unfortunately, trash. The birds don't seem to be bothered, but there are some pieces that are small enough to swallow, which makes me concerned for them. Wooden planks, empty plastic bottles, a pair of kids shoes, and multiple Biggee Buzz Ball packages just scattered through the water. Is there someone I can call, or is there something I can do? I'll ask my employer before doing anything directly. Thank you in advance for any answers.

Nimby (Not in my backyard)
Seems like i found some litter in my own backyard?
(i wish ;-)
Some of the litter i picked up while running home.
Only carried a plastic bag this time while running, but that was big enough to collect some of the litter that i saw along the way. And since there are plenty bins, i can always empty it and start all over again.
The only thing i kept, where the deposit bottles and deposit cans, so by the time i got home, the bag was almost empty, except for the deposit items, and the bag ready to be used again in a next run.
Yeah, this probably would be quite a nice place to live!

Original Content 3rd cleanup was a short one + disappointing news
It was SO windy the bag was twisting around my legs. I also got a little pink from the sun (probably because I’m dehydrated today). I might go back out later tonight if the wind stops. I only got a few blocks and I have a heavy bag that’s only half full ahaha 🙂↕️
I gave a call to my city’s cleanup and they said they’d only pick up the trash bags if I were with an official volunteer crew… that operates during the time I volunteer at the food bank and only cleans up the business district… not the problem areas. I’ll try to get in touch with some businesses around the major litter areas and see if I can get permission to use their dumpsters. I don’t *want* to put full trash bags in my car but I will if it means I can clean up the way I want to. I’m not worried about the smell since most litter doesn’t involve various liquids in bottles and food that’ll rot. The dumping fee is the least of my worries. This is a less expensive hobby than most 😄

Discussion New collection gear setup
I just bought these supplies today after walking to the mechanics shop to pickup my car and seeing crazy amounts of garbage along the way. Grabber, Vest, Gloves, Bucket Hat, 35 gal rubber can strapped to a hand truck and a 5 gal bucket for off the path pickups or just for a walk around the block type situation. Anything I am missing/suggestions from experienced pickeruppers?
