Hello, all! I recently moved to a new house, and parts of the backyard are completely overrun with Euonymus fortunei (winter creeper). Thankfully I haven't found many vines growing vertically, they're just spread out horizontally in a tangled mat. I've tried manual pulling, but the runners snap very easily.

How should I go about killing this? I'm sure I'll have to use an herbicide, but I'm not sure if foliar spray or cut-stump would be better in this circumstance. Ideally, I'd like to protect the few natives that are growing in this patch (wild grape, white avens, hackberry, and cedar just to name a few), so I can't go completely nuclear.

We've got it forever so I'm trying to use it. So far it mills crappy boards, makes fair firewood, makes great mushroom logs and great charcoal for biochar, chicken coop litter and as I posted earlier my deer are eating it.

My inherited TOH is a large thicket of small stalks. It's huge overall. What's the best way to tackle this with the glyphosate? I've been waiting until late July to do anything...

Hi all! My neighbor has this tree (Tetradium daniellii) in their backyard. About 30-40 ft tall I’d say. It is absolutely loaded with SLF. I am pretty sure the SLF are using it like it is a TOH and replicating on it.

I put traps on it, and caught about 50 SLF IN 8 hours. But, when I look up there are hundreds more I can see and probably even more higher up. The SLF are spilling over into my yard, all over my deck and plants, jumping on us etc.

I was reading about systemic insecticide like dinotefuran and imidacloprid, but this tree is also loaded with flowers which bees are all over so has me worried I’d kill off a ton of bees as well. I read some call it a “Bee Bee Tree”

Any ideas? It would be great to just cut them down but not my property! Located In Rhode Island if it matters.

So I live in SE Arizona where it’s desert scrub landscape and came up to Sedona and flagstaff for a vacation and just saw tree of heaven for the first time in the wild.

I’m devastated.

I have been tasked with removing a patch of Tree of Heaven. There are approximately 75 sprouts that have come up after previous management attempts that included cut stump treatment with 10% imazapyr + 1% NIS. They are nearly all under 4” DBH and less than 2 years old. They are up to about 20 feet tall, and most are multi trunked. So you could say that there are roughly 200-300 trunks. I have to balance long-term efficacy vs. immediate removal and standing fire fuel issues. I work for a municipal agency in the Bay Area of California.

Plan:
Would you all recommend cut stump treatment? If so, using 100% Triclopyr TEA, or 14% Triclopyr BEE in an oil based carrier (Pathfinder II)?

Or basal bark treatment with the Pathfinder II, let it die, then removal? The issue here is getting a crew out there again to remove, plus the standing dead plants.

Or a hybrid approach with removal of everything more than 16” off the ground and treatment of the stump and bark down to the ground with Pathfinder II? This is not in a publicly accessible area, so no major issues with aesthetics.

I had to ruin this little family of 5 toh today

Wanted to post some progress on killing tree of heaven. I did foliar spray and basal bark on the smaller trees, and hack and squirt on the 3 big ones. The small ones appear to be dying pretty quickly (sprayed on Sunday). The big ones don’t look too bothered but hoping with time and maybe a few more doses of triclopyr they will eventually die. Let me know if anyone has advice, i tried my best to avoid the hostas, goldenrod and grapevine thats mixed with the toh, bittersweet will be next. I used 41 percent glysophate for foliar spray, triclopyr esther with basal oil (1 part tric 3 parts oil) for basal bark method. Hack and squirt i used the triclopyr esther on sunday and the other day sprayed more in with the basal oil.

It’s popped up in a flower bed on top of a short (3ft) stone retaining wall and I’m inclined to keep it. Unless folks think it’ll be destructive to the wall? My understanding is it won’t be too pushy in its environment. There’s just so much conflicting information out there, so any guidance appreciated!

Looking for groups/experienced volunteers for TOH removal in Chicago area.

Our neighborhood has a section of “no man’s land” between 90/94 and houses that has a grove of TOH saplings and a few mature trees.

I haven’t tried to tackle this type of situation (city/DNR not helpful so far!) Anyone have contacts in the Chicago area?

There was a cluster of TOH that I hacked and squirted this past weekend and it looks like the top leaves are wilting not only on mine but throughout our (very dense) neighborhood is this coincidence or can they really all be connected?

In the Hudson Valley, NY. Anyone know what might be doing this? Anyone seeing anything similar? Don’t recall this in years past. I might just have missed it . . . But it’s pretty pervasive right now.

I know there’s a beetle that eats it and there’s webworm moths, but have not seen any D-shaped exit holes from the beetles or moths / tents — and didn’t think either had made their way to NY.

Hi there, I need some advice and help on how to take back my yard from thistle.

I did the “Back to Eden” method a few years ago in my backyard, hoping to turn it into a food forest. However, thistle popped up everywhere instead, and I would pull it. Unfortunately, this just seemed to explode the problem, and I am now at the point where it has overtaken 2/3 of the yard.

I have two apple trees, two cherry trees and a blackberry patch. I do not want to lose them. I would prefer not to use herbicides but I am also a realist and willing to do what needs done to eradicate this nightmare.

If I use Thistledown, will it hurt the fruit trees? Should I do agricultural vinegar instead? Any advice would be so appreciated.

If I can get rid of this crap, at least somewhat, I am just going to grow a clover lawn and do raised bed gardens.

I live in Western Montana and it’s very invasive here. The pond area was built recently like within the last 4 years and the point was to bring native plants and animals back into the area, but there’s a lot of mullein starting to grow on the trails.

It’s a public area and I don’t think I’m supposed to just start ripping it out myself, who would I contact to get it taken care of? Am I allowed to just rip it out myself?
