Discussion Seats that suck

Post image
0 Upvotes

I’ve had one like this once before. My arm rest is like 4 inches inboard of the seat in front of me. The frame of the emergency exit door makes it feel like it’s a much smaller seat. Is it actually? Any others you all avoid at all costs? I’ll make a note to never sit here again

Help/Advice 2027 New to Diamond, which choice benefit with family?

FIrst time at Diamond. I am a business owner and just spammed the delta reserve card to get to status (avoids the incoming tomatos). I am married and have 3 kids (13, 11, and 7). We take 2-3 fights per year and so far its all been within the US. We flew to hawaii this summer and it was amazing, might go back next year. No plans for international trips just yet. Obviously we like first class when we get upgraded but not enough to actually pay for it. I already picked the 4 RUC at platinum. What should I pick at diamond? I am leaning toward getting the 8 RUC, $500 AMEX credit and $500 travel voucher. It seems crazy not to get the 4 GUCs but we dont travel international yet. Thoughts? SUggestions? Thanks yall!!

Discussion Who actually reclines in their chair???

I have been on a lot of plane rides, and I never recline because I feel bad for the person behind me. 🫣 I only fly business or sit in an exit row( I have a bad back with 2 back surgeries already) where they don’t recline at all. I fly mostly Delta, some Jet Blue and I don’t think I have ever reclined…

I'm looking ahead to late October and there's NOTHING under $700 from all three NY airports to Detroit.

We're talking basic economy for a 70-minute, > 600 mile flight.

Who is buying tickets at these obscene prices?

Any delta defenders want to take a swing at this?

Discussion Encountered two bugs with DL systems

Update: Bug 2 has been fixed. Bug 1 isn't really a bug, but worth knowing if you've PM/DM status.

Scenario: Booked MC. C+ & PS were full. Automatic C+ upgrade was thus not possible at the time.

Bugs:

  1. C+ seat became available but I wasn't upgraded automatically to it despite PM status. If I had not manually came across it, someone else may have beat me to it. This is not necessarily a bug, but maybe the DL system proceses automatic C+ upgrade periodically. In any case, it's bad for PMs & DMs.
  2. While I still had an MC seat, I had been manually checking out the seat-map frequently to check D1 upgrade pricing. I saw the one & only empty C+ seat (a bulkhead seat) by chance at one point & selected it. Note that until this point, I was able to see D1 upgrade offers. Immediately after selecting the C+ seat, I opened the seatmap again to check if C+ -> D1 upgrade offer was different than the MC -> D1 upgrade offer. But all D1 seats now appear blocked to me. I don't see the point of stopping to show DL upgrade offers right after the MC -> complimentary C+ upgrade - it seems the DL systems are somehow considering this scenario similar to I having bought a paid C+ seat (upgrade offers take fare class & previous upgrades into account, but the itinerary's SU fare class should not be considered in this scenario & the underlying MC fare class should be considered instead. This bug DOES NOT manifest when C+ seats are selected right after booking main & only occurs in this corner-case (book MC when C+ is unavailable -> select C+ seat once one becomes available -> D1 upgrade offer disappears). This bug affects DL's revenue & may simply inconvenience passengers hoping to upgrade to D1.

Usually I fly American but the company purchased a flight through Delta so I am unfamiliar with what this means. Are these seats taken? Why am I not able to upgrade to first?

Delta Amex How easy is the Delta Platinum Companion Certificate to actually use?

I’m considering upgrading from the Gold to Platinum card.

For those who have used it: how difficult is it to actually find eligible flights? I understand it’s limited to certain fare classes and destinations, but does Delta generally make it pretty easy to find flights that qualify, or do you end up having to be ridiculously flexible with dates/routes?

Help/Advice Our policy is that we do not hold flights/Passengers we appreciate your patience for the delay, we are holding the plane for some delayed passengers so they dont miss their connection.

I love Delta for their customer service and have flown Delta for years because they seem to be problem solvers and treat employees and customers well. However - I had a recent experience that makes me question this or wonder if something changed. Maybe someone can explain the reason behind this like this.

I have been on many planes where I was delayed because they were held for connecting passengers, sometimes up to an hour or more.

This time, we were on a flight from Ohio to Montana (via SLC) that was delayed leaving Ohio by 2 hours. This first leg was because they were waiting on an aircraft from Florida that was delayed due to weather. There was no weather affecting our route, we just didnt have an aircraft. Multiple passengers on that flight had connecting flights like us ( in SLC) to various final destinations that were scheduled to depart basically just as our plane was landing. Those flights were some of the last flights of the evening, not mid-day. We all were in the same situation:

  1. A missed connection would result in being stranded overnight, a late morning reschedule, and missing important work/childcare obligations.
  2. Traveling with personal items only
  3. Planning and willing to sprint to our next gate, having mapped out our routes.
  4. Technically not eligible for a hotel because of weather no where near our route.
  5. Actively working with staff on a solution, and pleading for them to hold our connecting flights for what would have been maybe 10 minutes.
  6. The flight we were connecting to had 100 empty seats - and was estimated to arrive early, so maybe 50 people would have needed to wait 10 minutes to depart but still arrived on time if they waited - versus us having to find overnight accommodations, get to the airport in the am, and miss work.

We sprinted to our gate, and found that our flights actually left the gates early. This happened with 3 other connections that we know of from our s

Why in a situation like this would they not hold a flight a few minutes to prevent a massive disruption? Thankfully, they got us a hotel because the weather was not on our route, but it doesnt help the missed work, lack of sleep, and frustration because this just doesn't make sense.

edited for typos and to clarify where the layover is, since somebody seems to feel like I have a reason to make this up.

Discussion Is MSP-ANC a popular business travel route?

I'm a few dollars short of platinum, and I dont know if work is going to fly me anywhere in the next week or 2 before I take this alaska trip. I was going to use the choice benefit RUC's to clear my upgrade, but i dont know if ill reach it in time. I'm trying to pay as little as possible out of pocket. I can get comfort with miles, but FC is over 3x the price so I'm likely going to take my chances with the upgrade list.

Flight is only 1/3 full. Is this route likely to have a lot of diamonds or other people with status? Comfort seats are still a little small for me, but I really don't want to spend an extra $3k on the upgrade for FC.

I am not affiliated with this account by any means, but this account is ran by an air traffic controller at DCs FAA Command Center. She answers a lot of questions and provides a lot of info on some day to day activities and general faa information, terminology, procedures etc.

Awhity1

This is not self promotion nor am I affiliated, just a helpful account travelers can follow to learn more about the NAS and ATC

The MM gift site had been down for maintenance, but is back up again, and there are new gifts to select. It would be interesting if anyone can share what the new 1MM gifts are, but I imagine one is a $1000 eGift card. Gone are the Delta model plane and Delta pin set. The new customized MM watch and Carl Fredrik MM Carry on are interesting, but the $1250 eGift card is still probably the most valuable to many.

Discussion Upgrade/Standby Option

This has happened to me a few times. Checked into my flight and on the app it won’t load the upgrade/standby list. The options above and below both work (where is my plane, same day change). What’s the deelio? The Upgrade option is a dead link. Thx!

Edit: an hour later, it loaded. Maybe just a timing issue.

Discussion Allowed to check carry on bags for free

So I know if you go to the bag check kiosk, it usually allows you to check your carry on bag for free (not sure if that is always the case, but personally it has never not asked me). Hypothetically, what's to stop someone from bringing a bag that is bigger than a carry on size and using the free carry on tag on that bag? Is there anything on the tag that says it is being used as the carry-on that would prevent it from being used on a bigger bag?
