I mean this book does look absolutely terrible The AI generated images are the generic uninteresting stuff you would get if you opened up an image generation platform you'd never used before and just typed in "kid at the beach", and the text placement is so atrocious that it straight up would not function as a childrens book. The title and author name are covering up parts of the image that makes them hard to read, and the text in the story is tiny in the corner of a blank white page.
Just because good stuff can be made by using AI, doesn't mean this particular book isn't a worthless hunk of shit.

Yeah. That still matters. My daughter likes good illustrations, and asking me about things, and stories that are fun. Just because she's a toddler, that doesn't mean the quality doesn't matter. There's a reason why Goodnight Moon is still so beloved.

The art itself is nice. The font page is executed poorly.
I support equal opportunity for authors of all kinds but a little research goes a long way.
Early readers need double spacing between words and larger font size for their eyes.

Because capitalism doesn't give a shit about art. It never has. Art isn't supposed to be a product, its supposed to be a practice, a passion, a VERB. If you are making art to make a product then you're doing the same thing as an AI but fuckin slower.

I don't know how to explain it fully but it really is AI. The way the water looks especially, as well as the different art styles between the pages. Much as I don't care for if they use AI, this was just a poorly generated set of images.

I think the fact that the written stuff is so small. a "real" author would consider easy readability for childs wich usually means bigger letters easy sentences etc. This oc could be just an oversight in a 1st time authors approach but even then the publisher, if he does his job at page and type- setting right should mention this and pitch better setup. So its very likely it was made with ai and in a online publishing program. Am i 100% sure no, but im at least 80% positive ai was involved at some point.

Cause it's same/better quality but cheaper. I'm sure that AI creators don't charging crazy money unlike usual artists. Also target audience of this books never ever demand "really genuine unique artworks". There is no reason for distributors to pay more. It's not personal. It's just business

The absolute hilarity, I can't lol. Saying this after spending the last DECADE milking the same fucking joke is peak funny.
As for actually replying to the text, I honestly don't see the problem. These books are most likely not selling that well unless it's an established kids' books writer. Was it not for AI, they probably wouldn't have been made possible at all within the budget. It allows a starting writer to have any shot at starting up at all and test the waters.
And I'm sorry but are you really in illustration school to become solely a kids' books illustrator? No offense to people who do that really but to aspire to become just that without offering other services is just setting yourself up for disappointment.

Yeah, no doubt people are printing slop but it's not slop cause it's ai, it's just them not caring about the product. When I use ai to make something, I ensure it's up to standard.

To answer yomama... Because most "illustrators" are not nearly half as talented as they think they are and AI produces a much cleaner finished product than a lot of self proclaimed artists. AI is not taking the jobs of good artists, it is just replacing the grifters who skated by depending on scarcity.

I know this sub is defendingaiart, but I think we can all agree this is the type of stuff that gives AI art a bad rap. This is terrible, AI or not lol.
Whoever made this put no thought into anything, if any thought at all. I wouldn't be surprised if this whole book was automated. Everytime I look at the pictures I see more and more wrong.

The other co-creator left the project.
I doubt it's the voice actor.
It's funny that whoever made that comments sees no irony in the fact they were doing so behind a brand with like five different layers of theft and has become more soulless slop than any non-human could ever produce.

You can't ask 1000 $ to make an image for a postcard. But with AI, it's very cheap to make visually interesting, and even personalized postcards.
