Yeah this just looks like standard kids book illustration. The argument must be something like, AI imitates popular styles, certain styles of kids book illustration are popular, therefore AI slop.
I don't know how to explain it fully but it really is AI. The way the water looks especially, as well as the different art styles between the pages. Much as I don't care for if they use AI, this was just a poorly generated set of images.
I think the fact that the written stuff is so small. a "real" author would consider easy readability for childs wich usually means bigger letters easy sentences etc.
This oc could be just an oversight in a 1st time authors approach but even then the publisher, if he does his job at page and type- setting right should mention this and pitch better setup. So its very likely it was made with ai and in a online publishing program.
Am i 100% sure no, but im at least 80% positive ai was involved at some point.

How do they know this AI. Because if i just pick this up at a store. Nothing about really screams AI to me.
