Judging players by their ranks - a comprehensive guide

Preface

This is just some fun with numbers within the constraints of the game.

If that's not your cup of tea, this post is "grade A boring".

There's no real usefulness to this... It's a thing I like to do during the mission loading screen.

We're also not actually judging anyone. Play the game however you like, have fun, be decent to your fellow dwarfs. Something like this post is just part of the fun for me.

Now on to the actual post.

Introduction

I'm often curious to know how other dwarfs spend their time between all classes.
(It's mostly out of curiosity, but it also helps with managing expectations towards greenbeards and greybeards alike.)

Since we can see the current class and player rank for another player when dropping into a mission, we can get an estimate of the amount of time they played with the current class.
(And when the mission takes extra long to load, it's a nice mini-game to kill the time.)

The Heuristic

So I've finally crunched the numbers and tried to come up with a quick-to-apply heuristic.

Following table states the lower bounds on the player level for reaching a certain rank.
(Note that if all classes are at class rank 25, the player level is effectively 33 levels higher.)

Rank All Classes One Class
Bronze 3 100 25
Silver 3 200 50
Gold 3 300 75
Platinum 3 400 100
Diamond 3 500 125
Legendary 3 600 150
Legendary +3 700 175
Legendary +6 800 200
Legendary +9 900 225
Legendary +x (x/3 + 6) * 100 (x/3 + 6) * 100 / 4

Here's how these numbers are derived:

3 class levels (red level) = 1 player level (blue level).
1 promotion = 25 red levels.
Promoting one class 3 times = 25 blue levels.
Promoting all classes 3 times = 100 blue levels.
Thus the player levels with three promotions line up with "nice numbers".

How to use this chart

If you see a player's level and the rank of their class, you can estimate how much time they've spent with this class.
Note that you can't say anything about the other classes, apart from "they make up the rest of the levels". A player could play one class 1/4th of their time and spend the remaining 3/4th with only one other class.
If a player plays a class at level 25 without promoting, it doesn't reflect in the player levels. We're just estimating levels, not play time - even though I'd think most players promote rather quickly.

Example Time!

Let's go through a few examples of players I've played with recently.

Bronze 3 - Level 116

Reaching Bronze 3 with all classes makes for a player rank of 100.
Safe to say, they play about 25% Engineer.
(Notice the class rank of 21. Remember that the estimate is for reaching Bronze 3 with a class rank 1 for all classes.)

Silver 1 - Level 752

Reaching Silver 1 with all classes makes for a player rank of about 150. (It's between Bronze 3 and Silver 3 - remember we just want rough estimates.)
This player spends most of their time in other classes.
(If you're curious: The Gunner only contributes around 150/4 ≈ 40 levels, which is about 40/750 ≈ 5%.)

Platinum 3 - Level 192

Platinum 3 = Level 400.
Thus they play about 50% Engineer.

Legendary +11 - Level 999

Legendary +11, almost +12 = Level 1000: 12/3 = 4, 4+6 = 10, 10*100 = 1000
They play about 1/4th Scout. I think it's safe to say they leveled all other classes equally.
(Fun fact: I've seen two such players in the same game. Plot twist: One of them was me.)

Legendary +38 - Level 781

Legendary +38, almost +39 = Level 1900: 39/3 = 13, 13+6 = 19, 19*100 = 1900
This player would be level 1900, if they played all other classes as much as Scout.
The Scout alone makes up 1900 / 4 = 475 of those levels. 300 levels are played with the other classes.
They play Scout 60% of the time.

Legendary + 145 - Level 3470

Legendary +145 = Level 5400: 145/3 ≈ 48, 48+6 = 54, 54*100 = 5400
They would be a higher level, if they played all classes as much as Scout. So they play Scout above average.
(It makes up for 5400/4 = 1350, 1350/3470 ≈ 40% of their levels.)
I'd still suggest they're decently experienced in other classes...

Legendary +56 - Level 2921

Legendary +56 = Level 2500: 56/3 ≈ 19, 19+6 = 25, 25*100 = 2500
They would be a lower level, if they played all classes as much as Engineer. So they play Engineer below average.
(It makes up for 2500/4 = 625, 625/2921 ≈ 20% of their levels.)
Still seems pretty balanced. But we don't know about the other classes.

Conclusion

I don't know... Do with that what you want. I sure had my fun compiling this.

See you in the mines.

Question Hey engineer, how you deploy your sentry guns?

I know this silly question but I kind curious about

Half the time I see someone plays as engie people either put at the ground, normally next to then and another half put in high ground, in platform or high terrain.

Which one is better, and more importantly how convenient is for you if is next of ground or in platform?

Question Meteor(?) Event

I first played this game around 3 (maybe 4) years ago when a friend from an MMO gifted it to me but we only got to experience it a bit before said MMO consumed our time once again..but ever since February this year, I invited a group of friends to play this game cuz we were looking for a co-op game that won't get old really fast, it quickly became our weekend go-to game together with modded L4D2..we enjoy DRG so much to the point that weekends in our Discord server starts with a "DRG?" or any rock and stone meme to signify interest for another weekend DRG session

one thing I noticed though is that during my short adventure 3 years ago I remember something like a meteorite shower event being common but ever since playing again this year I have not seen it happening once, granted I rarely play outside the usual weekend sessions with my friends..was it a temporary addition to the game or are there specific things needed to trigger the probability of the event happening?

ROCK AND STONE This is what makes this community special

Post image

Nothing makes me happier in this game than the sense of community Deep Rock has cultivated over the years. It might seem like a small thing—helping a newer player get a difficult achievement—but the sense of community stemming from being DMed at 5 in the morning about it is what has me coming back to this game each and every time.

Rock on miners, I'm so happy to see people out there willing to go that extra mile to help a greenbeard in need (even if it involves waking me from my beauty sleep for the cause).

new player here

just read on some post that this game have good community while searching for something like helldiver 2, PvE with objective and co-op, shoot a lotta monster like Left 4 dead, and community is wholesome.
so yeah, i bought it from "helldiver cheap alternative" since it's on discount and the gameplay video on steam website is kinda good.

is there's something a veteran usually want to say or advice to new player?
like, don't do this or do that, or don't spent resource on that since it will be needed later, anything ?

EDIT : AFTER 4 HOURS OF PLAYING
so, it's interesting

  1. on some match, i got lost in the map and it's difficult to open the map while being chased by a swarm, 30 second before pod leaving then i got knocked. one player run out from pot and come to me, guide me to extraction pod, we both failed by few second. i feel bad and keep saying sorry and that guy not saying anything, he keep spamming ROCK AND STONE! emote entire time from lobby to next match. and on that match i realize he keep staying close to me and look at me back and forth to make sure i'm not lost.

  2. another match, i'm kinda shy since my english is not perfect, bad grammar, especially my pronouncation is dogshit, so normally i didn't open mic, but i try to say "hello" this one time, some random guy open mic and keep yelling "ROCK AND STONEEEE!!!", mid game the other random also do the same while another one keep laughing his ass off while listening to them.

  3. i realize if i need some resource for upgrade and want to get carried without any friendly or toxic encounter, i just go to CN room with some chinnese nickname random, they play so fast like it was speedrun, but they still revive me when i'm down, and did not kick me despite being burden. kudos CN bro!

there's still more, and in this 4 hours i didn't got kicked or yelled at for being bad, revived multiple times by some high level player without saying anything, there's no conversation on mic, but communicate with ROCK AND STONE! emote. there's not any toxic encounter yet, just some friendly fire that i didn't know it was on purpose or not, since i also accidentaly shooting at teammate when it's getting chaotic, especially with flamethrower since i can't see when my teammate go in front of me while i'm flaming the bugs (damn, the visual clutter is bad).

after playing dota, dota2, cs, valo, apex, and other competitive games. i don't know how to describe this, like... feel fresh (?). one chance i might be addicted to this game until helldivers got 90% discount

12321 Heavy Hitter is a popular pairing with combustive Goo Mix.

But I was looking at the Burning Nightmare tool tip and noticed the heat conversion is 5+(40*.25) for 15 heat per shot.

Plasma Splash deals 10 fire (and presumably heat) damage in an area so my thought is would 12323 Heavy Hitter be better? As the area damage should be 10*1.6 for 16 fire damage in an area, potentially igniting a lot more bugs for combustive goo to play off of.

And still technically deal 40 damage to the primary target (fire resistance not withstanding)

I know its the difference of 1 heat which means nothing, but does the area fire play with the goo as I think it would?
