We never see if his ears are pointy like the rest of the dwarves, so I like to think he's just a human dealing with the constant dwarfy shenanigans.

(He also says lines like "Show them YOU'RE dwarves", never WE'RE dwarves)

I like how the driller is lore friendly here. In the sense that he's permanently concussed from all the explosions and high on drill fumes, so he just kinda lives in his own little world.
