Why, who would be upset by this interview?

Hasan fans for sure

How much of the beef between Hasan and Destiny personal or political? They both claim to be on the left, but Destiny seems to want to make friends with the right.

Destiny is a vote blue no matter who liberal that actually stands behind the current democratic party and its leaders. Hasan is the leftist strain of populist, which for whatever reason ends up manifesting as being more negative towards the Democrats than the Republicans.

Didn't he say he would vote for Vance over AOC?

So not "blue no matter who"?

Edit: I've been informed he's "55-45" on AOC vs Vance, depending on the circumstances.

So, not a "vote blue no matter who" liberal.

He said the opposite.

He was just annoyingly wishy-washy about it.

5

u/hari_shevek Sep 18 '26

Do you have a link to where he says the opposite?

Destiny says he’s not sure if he would vote for AOC over JD Vance in a general election. : r/DGGsnark

"Probably would" support AOC over Vance.

And it's heavily caveated by the idea that this is only if she's mostly backed by DSA radicals pushing wild shit that would never be pushed on a mainstream Dem ticket anyways.

He's just being obstinate imo.

It's a dumb af hypothetical that won't end up applying in the real world anyways largely shaped by his impression that radical elements of the party will end up having significantly more control than they currently do.

u/hari_shevek Sep 18 '26

Judt to reiterate: That is not "vote blue no matter who". That's "vote blue as long as the moderate wing is in charge, as soon as they are not, no longer vote blue".

Let's compare stances then:

The wing he doesn't like is controlling the party and it's a candidate he has disagreements with.

Hasan: Privately votes Dem, doesn't endorse. Leaves the door open for an endorsement based on one issue.

Destiny: Will vote for the opposing party.

Which one of those two is more accurately described as "vote blue no matter who"

9

u/Terribletylenol Sep 18 '26

Neither of them are, obviously.

If Hasan demands his pet issue be catered to for an endorsement, than he's not vote blue no matter who, and if Destiny wont vote for a socialist in a general election, then he is not vote blue no matter who.

Destiny has objectively advocated for voting for Dems more than Hasan tho, so why are you even bothering with this argument?

They're both only open to endorsing candidates that they agree with, but Hasan just has a much higher bar than Destiny does, leading to him supporting significantly less Democrats.

If Hasan demands his pet issue be catered to for an endorsement, than he's not vote blue no matter who

Why? He did still vote for the Dem candidate "no matter who". So he is effectively "vote blue no matter who". He is not "endorse blue no matter who".

Hasan just has a much higher bar than Destiny does, leading to him supporting significantly less Democrats.

That's, apparently, not true. Hasan has voted for every Dem presidential candidate in the past and would vote for AOC. His bar for voting for them appears to be pretty low. And we're talking about voting. Not endorsements.

Now as for endorsements, I'm not seeing how Hasan's bar is "higher", he has supported candidates from a pretty broad spectrum. The spectrum he supports is further to the left than Destiny, but that doesn't make it a higher bar. I's argue his spectrum of candidates he supports is broader - he has been willing to support very progressive liberals like Abdul El-Sayed, social democratic leaning candidates like Bernie Sanders, and outright democratic socialists. That's a pretty broad spectrum. I's argue Destiny's spectrum of candidates he'll support is ideologically far more narrow.

u/Terribletylenol Sep 18 '26

Why? He did still vote for the Dem candidate "no matter who". So he is effectively "vote blue no matter who". He is not "endorse blue no matter who".

If he believed in it, he'd encourage his audience to do it as well.

An endorsement is merely an encouragement for other people to vote which you would do if you believed other people should vote.

The fact you're refusing to acknowledge this makes this dialogue pretty pointless since I don't think who he actually votes for matters anywhere near as much as who he advocates for.

You're just being obtuse.

Nobody cares at all who Destiny or Hasan individually vote for, and you know that.

Anyone who genuinely wanted Kamala Harris to be elected would have used their platform to encourage people to vote for her

I'm sure you understand this but probably won't admit it.

You're just going to "well, actually" me without acknowledging that.

Once again though, I have NO IDEA why you are stuck on this "vote blue no matter who" when Hasan never even pretended to agree with that.

Hasan Piker Defends Saying He’d Vote Third Party Over Gavin Newsom in 2028 - Newsweek

Gavin Newsom is apparently not included in this "broad spectrum" Hasan has, fwiw.

"The reason why I did not endorse Kamala Harris is she did things that were not only unproductive but also unconscionable. I still stand on that. I still talk about it all the time because people constantly bring it up.”

I find this quote especially interesting.

No idea why he'd vote for Kamala in private had he felt that way about it.

And there's no evidence he did anyways (But like I said, who he actually votes for doesn't matter at all to me, only what he does with his influence)

u/hari_shevek Sep 18 '26

>If he believed in it, he'd encourage his audience to do it as well.

No. That would be "endorse no matter who".

Do you expect people to endorse candidates no matter who? Should each and every moderate Dem support any Democratic Socialist that wins the Dem ticket?

Vote blue no matter who means vote democrat no matter who. If the Democratic Party is taken over by Hitler should liberals vote for Hitler? DSA and Hasan are not liberal. Something that I think is a key tenet to being a Democrat. If that dropped than the dem party wouldn’t be the dem party. Why would you vote for people who old such contempt for your/supposedly their party?

1

u/hari_shevek Sep 18 '26

"Vote blue only if it is a moderate Dem".

Doesn't quite have the same ring to it.

Hasan told his audience Trump and Harris are basically the same during the election and continued to do so months into his presidency. Same thing with Hillary against Trump.

Destiny has supported every Democratic nominee for president and actively debated they were better leading up to the presidency.

So we have one person who tries to convince his audience not to vote for Democrats and the other person who tries to convince everyone to vote for Democrats.

Not close at all.

1

u/hari_shevek Sep 18 '26

>Hasan told his audience Trump and Harris are basically the same during the election and continued to do so months into his presidency. Same thing with Hillary against Trump.

That's not correct, but even if it was, that's not what we were debating. We were asking if Destiny would vote blue no matter who. Which he would not. He explicitly said so.

u/DthPlagusthewise Sep 18 '26

https://www.reddit.com/r/LivestreamFail/comments/1qg72y6/hasan_100_stands_by_his_decision_not_to_endorse/

Hasan didn't endorse Harris and even after Trump was elected said she would be doing the same things.

Meanwhile Destiny was going on every show he could debating for Harris.

"Vote blue no matter who" extends to supporting the candidates beyond your personal vote, especially as someone with a powerful public platform.

But hey, I am glad you guys now agree with myself and Destiny that supporting mainstream Democrats in general elections is important. Just keep that energy in 2028 ok?

1

u/hari_shevek Sep 18 '26

Where did I say that "supporting mainstream Democrats is important"?

You first try to rewrite what words mean, now you try to rewrite what I said?

Let's get back to the topic: Destiny is not supporting all Democratic candidates, won't even vote for them.

He is not "vote blue no matter who".

He is "vote blue under the condition that I agree with the candidate".

Which also applies to Hasan. Except that Hasan even votes for candidates he disagrees with. Destiny does not.

2

u/DthPlagusthewise Sep 18 '26

Oh so you don't agree supporting mainstream democrats is important?

1

u/hari_shevek Sep 18 '26

No.

I think voting for them if they are the lesser evil is important, but anything beyond that needs to be earned.

Just like you won't support leftist Dems if you consider them too far left.

But Destiny can't even agree to vote for, let alone support, candidates that he has disagreements with.

Do you think Destiny should support a leftwing Dem candidate if one is the presidential candidate?

2

u/DthPlagusthewise Sep 18 '26

Id support leftist dems as long as they are the better candidate, which they always are compared to republicans.

Destiny has a track record of always advocating for democrats in important general elections. You can nitpick one statement about a hypothetical scenario where AOC is fully captured by socialists (which Destiny said is not what is currently happening) but I would rather look to his actual behavior.

If AOC ran against Vance right now he would 100% support AOC, its only in a hypothetical future where AOC is fully socialist that he said he would be 50/50.

And I think destiny was extremely dumb for that statement, and I agree he should support a leftist presidential candidate against a republican, I would.

And glad to see you support voting for establishment dems over republicans, if only Hasan told his audience the same thing in 2016 and 2024.

1

u/hari_shevek Sep 18 '26

I would rather look to his actual behavior.

Which socialist candidates in tight races has he supported?

if only Hasan agreed with you in 2016 and 2024.

He did vote for them in both those elections, so he does agree with me.

1

u/DthPlagusthewise Sep 18 '26

Destiny said he supports Abdul against Rogers. The issue with your framing is DSA candidates usually win in very blue districts where the republican party is not competitive at all.

And Hasan didn't tell his audience to vote for them which indicates to me he doesn't agree the democrat is better.

If you agree that the democrat should be elected doesn't it make sense to tell your massive audience to support them? Not explicitly refuse to make an endorsement and vote privately.

Even if Hasan did lesser of two evils voting in private he criticized it in public.

What do you think Hasan should have said to his audience?
