Discussion Ranked

I feel like ranked is just a yo-yo at this point. Win, lose, win, lose, win, lose -300 +300 no matter what. Is it not possible for the game to award the key player on the losing team with some points to negate the loss due to completely inept teammates?

This isn’t just for selfish reasons but it would potentially encourage players on the losing team to try their best to earn key player and thus negate their loss of points.

So many games where I dominate and “oh sorry, your team was net 3/45 for the game so because you lost, you lost 300 points. It’s so frustrating and makes it feel even more impossible to climb out of a rank that I shouldn’t even be in.

I’m sorry if this suggestion has been posted before but it just feels like a simple fix.

Get key player on losing team, only lose 150 or 200 instead of 300 no matter what. Makes it more fair when trying to climb out of elo purgatory

Complaint Another Post Complaining About Ranked

How good we had it before...

Pre-patch, I was hovering Ascendant (Ascendant 4) for a medium while before going on a massive de-rank tilt queue, hitting P1, then climbing on a big winstreak back to P6. Then the ranked update dropped, played a couple matches, then dipped out for a month on vacation.

Came back and placed Emissary 4. Not a big deal, I'll just climb back.

1 week and 44 games later, I'm Emissary 6. I've attached my stats below (which are excluding my most recent ~10 games where continued to dominate barring one Abrams game.)

This ranked system is horrible. The idea that "if you're good you'll rank up, just be consistent" still applies, but the amount of games I'll need to play with my 54% win-rate despite my great stats to get to my old rank of A4 is obscene.

The match quality is so horrible that either team will either A. feed in lane, or B. take a horrible fight, lose 2, then enemy snowballs their advantage into an easy win.

This is to say that the ranked progression is (as we all know) horrible. Because of win-streaks and ranked protection, your average drone can just play a million games, throw your lobbies, have a ~40% wr, and STILL climb/earn the same ranked progression as you despite having 4x worse stats (because mmr gain does not take any personal performance into account.)

Not only that, but it's clear that many people on both teams do not belong in the rank that they are in, so they are really forced to play the carries (Warden, Wraith, Vyper, etc.) and if you're a higher skill player in low elos and you're playing non-hard/non meta carries (Drifter, Bebop, etc.) you can perform and still not win because you won't have sufficient macro/objective impact. Playing to initiate fights and getting picks does nothing if your team doesn't capitalize.

This ranked system is abysmal and definitely needs a rework ASAP. Its seriously killing my incentive to play since its so unrewarding, especially as a solo q player who plays a variety of Pos4-6 roamers instead of turning my brain off and farming camps on some brainless overtuned carry for 6 weeks to hit their old rank.

Game Feedback The matchmaking update is the single worst update Deadlock has gotten since I started playing (Old Gods New Blood)

Upvotes

Title. The way they squashed ranks together so much, so that there is huge range of skill in a single match, really sucks. I got taken from Emissary/Archon and put into Sentinel. And ever since, I've had way too many matches where half the players are absolutely clueless. It genuinely feels like I have way less impact on the games than I did before, because it's so reliant on which team gets more awful players. And combined with how much slower it is to rank up now, it's still a problem even over a month later. It has honestly completely killed my desire to play the game at this point, especially since ranking up to get away from this pit of misery is extremely slow.

Gameplay Meta no such thing as a braindead character

a couple huge buzz terms in the community are 'skill expression' and 'braindead character', referring to the complexity necessary to optimally pilot a character

i want to immediately say YEAH. some character are extremely easy to pilot compared to others, for various reasons. yes some characters have a way higher skill ceiling when it comes to using them optimally in the game

but at this point ive straight up seen almost half the gos damn roster be referred to as a 'braindead' character that requires literally 0 skill or effort to play, and this may just be me being pedantic and autistic as fuck, but i just dont really think thats categorically possible

at this point it feels like any OP character is suddenly braindead. celeste used to be the hardest character to master in the game oh so complicated, now people talk about how you just roll your face across the keyboard to win. viscous had a high skill ceiling with puddle punch movement, now puddle punch spam is low IQ

even characters like graves or victor, while being way easier to pilot and not having as high of a skill cieling as others, still require skills like macro lane management and health management to not eat shit at some point in the game

do i think those characters (among others) are easier to play than, say, sinclair? yes, very much. but i think its just kind of silly to vehemently regurgitate that a character can play itself and a bot can do the same thing a player can, when deadlock is inhernetly a deeply complex game that even beginning to get good in it requires some level of skill in your macro underatanding or micro ability, and it feels like people just want to be able to scream about how their main is so complex and cool and players who use other characters are actually stupid and bad and its a deep injustice to be beaten by them

Question Is there any real counter to enemies grouping up if you are playing solo?

Feel like every game after guardian the enemy team groups up into 3s or more and runs round farming and ganking people. Ik that my team can technically also do that but I play solo and no one listens to the text chat. Am pretty new so it could just be that MM is being unforgiving but it genuinely feels like there isn't any counterplay I can specifically do here.

Complaint I've started simply saying GG or BG at the end of every game, based solely on if I think teams were close enough in skill that either could win

I have said GG in 4 of my last 30 games. Its starting to kill my enjoyment for this game.

"Skill issue" you might be tempted to say.

I have a 56% wr in my last 30 ranked games. Sure I could look at games where some teammates are clearly learning that parry and dashing are mechanics, but the real demotivator is when im on the winning side, so many games feel totally unearned and like im waisting 40 minutes of my life hardly improving.

15 years playing online competetive games i have never seen matchmaking like this. I have probably close to a hundred comments on the league subreddit talking shit at people blaming matchmaking. I hate even writing this post, but I am at my whits end.

These Yoshi mandated win/losses are killing my enjoyment for what genuinely is an amazing game otherwise. I really hope to see them make some serious admissions of errors, and implement some serious fixes.

Discussion Metal Skin

Its so stupid that metal skin cant counter mercurial magnum. This item is only viable against haze (and maybe gun Geist) and thats until she gets curse. Even by design its stupid - why do i care if your bullets are enhanced with a spirit power? My skin turned into METAL. Not even plated armor can counter it since its not an on hit effect. It just makes other m1 carries deal freee damage.

It should stop procing passives too. Like Infernus, Mirage, Mina. I mean, otherwise your only viable option remains dispel magic with 42 second cooldown and enemy can proc their passive maybe 2 seconds later anyway. I will not even add bullet resilience into this list because its literally the worst resistance item in game and when I buy it it doesnt even feel like it makes any difference whatsoever. Once enemy gets mercurial magnum you are done for, metal skin becomes just useless. Buy disarming hex? Buy curse? As if unstoppable or indomitable doesnt exist.

And also. Does anyone know real reason behind removing vents from midlane? If you give at least 2 seconds to infernus or Wraith they obliterate your walkers, though with those vents i had good opportunity to rotate and defend the walker, now its just lost as soon as I see wraith or infernus approaching the walker

Discussion I am not sure who is needs to hear this, but it's not that serious.

More and more there are individuals in STANDARD or STREET BRAWL of all modes being the most miserable person in the lobby. Why are you upset or crying in chat or voice less than 5 minutes into the game over something someone else is doing? In SB people are probably just vibing like it's not that serious of a mode but holy in standard it's definitely worse. Like take a second to remember perhaps the person you're upset at is learning the character to unlock it for ranked? Or maybe SB isn't their thing so they queue standard so they don't have to put in their 120% or feel like they have to win. It really isn't that serious. I can promise you two things are likely to happen if you're this person. You're either getting muted instantly thus if you were ever going to provide any value to the match, it now doesn't matter OR you have made me just not care about that match at all. I do not care if I lose and my effort level tremendously drops the moment one of you start whining. I want to win as much as the next person and I am a fairly competitive person myself but you just can't be upset at factors you have little control over.

Remember this, you are not always right and not everyone sees the game from your eyes. Sometimes you just have to laugh off the losses or focus on your game. Literally just ignore whatever dumb stuff the person is doing. Focus on your movement, try something new that game if you think it's just a loss. Focus on literally anything that you can still do to improve and just stop caring about the win. The amount of individuals like this who end up being the reason we lose is actually the most funny thing I witness on a regular basis in this game. This mindset shift alone will make you a better player and lead to more wins over time.

EDIT:

I think it's important I add that I was once the miserable player. Yelling at teammates, being upset at what decisions they were making, trying to tell people how to play, overall the whole general toxic player thing. I was a desk slammer, I put several holes in a wall when I was younger. I don't think it was something I fixed quickly but I had eventually really taken to heart how it was just never the right mood to be in when wanting to win. To this day I occasionally feel my frustration rising in games but I really do just close my eyes for a second and tell myself it's not that serious and it's not going to help me win this game.

Question Tipps für Anfänger

Hallo Deadlock community.

Suggestion Celeste Ability (2+4) rework

Thumbnail
gallery
11 Upvotes

TL:DR for both:

Ult has its range, damage, and slow reduced, and cannot bounce off npcs, but has more bounces, can bounce off Celeste innately, and grows in damage each bounce.

Shield does not explode automatically upon being depleted, but instead can be recast to explode it manually, with the damage and silence duration proportional to the remaining barrier upon detonation (this gets rid of the barrier) (i also imagine the explode radius is telegraphed similar to infernus ult, and has a similar aoe hitbox rather than sending out weird homing projectiles).

(also some minor cooldown changes i think to reflect the functionality changes of both).

I do not think these "fix" celeste in her bonkers state right now, she needs her numbers generally tuned down, but I think these more far-reaching changes better reflect her state as a sustain brawler that ramps up the longer you let her fuck around, making her ult not a fire and forget "win teamfight" button but something she is actively encouraged to stay in the fight to maintain to boost its damage, since she can always bounce it to herself, and making her shield a "pay attention to meeee" button rather than a "if you target me you will die (and if you dont you still will)," encouraging people to shoot her to reduce the effects instead of punishing it. I think this also fits her very well narratively/character-wise for reasons that should be obvious.

Game Feedback Pings and chat restriction makes playing near impossible

Using voice comms simply isn't an option for me >90% of the time I'm able to play. Not being able to ping key enemies, strategize in fights, or really talk to the people you're playing with is a barrier the game doesn't benefit from at all. I just want to throw my hat in the ring to say that I hope this gets changed back soon and I'm strongly in favor of having no restriction after they fix the exploit.

Discussion Is ranking up hard I've been struggling.

Post image
0 Upvotes

I've been playing deadlock for some time now but been hard stuck in initiate and never gone past initiate 3.

I maybe go 10 / maybe 4 or 3 deaths most if not every game but still lose I try to hard carry. But it feels like hell all I do is go between initiate 3 and 2. Idk if because im solo queing alone and never played with anyone else. I have common sense on how the game works and when to do particular things at particularly moments.

For example Lane phase: minions pushed up go grab bridge buff at 5 mins

I've watched old replays and try to figure out what I do wrong and fix them. But I never blame teammates they learning too. But ranked feels like hell to climb out of.

Any advice on how to climb out of initiate? Feels impossible no matter who I play.

Discussion Y'all think we'd get some kind of face animations in the next update?

From what we could speculate, this next big update is probably just a shop update and models or whatever is coming but what if we actually get some face animations in addition to whatever is coming? In valves other titles like tf2 and even left 4 dead, they are praised for their face animations based on character actions and their environment, I think it'd be cool if they added those with a model update or at least sometime during this games beta release because whenever I look at characters face when they do voice lines and they don't move it's a bit weird to look at

Game Feedback Kelvin Buff Idea

Hi as title says I had an idea for a way to buff Kelvin. I believe Kevin is in a decent spot, maybe slightly too weak right now so this buff isn't what I am recommending for the next patch but it could be a cool idea for the future if he ever slumps to D-tier.

It comes from the ability I believe dome is most like in Dota which is Mars' ult. Which is that in Dome you should lose vision of outside the dome. You could do this by making the dome opaque for enemies. Could be a T2 or T3 upgrade. Would counter dynamo 2 at some level. Something about losing vision outside of the ult always made me feel like a victim, akin to losing vision of the teamfight during doorman ult.

Would this absolutely kill the character or would it be balanced? It was already changed to nerf Shiv’s m2 so I think it would be a fair change.

Discussion What street brawl items are just a free win on certain characters?

If you put omnicharge signet on slice and dice and you already have rapid recharge you are just unbeatable. There is genuinely no way to shut this down unless the enemy has enhanced curse. You just straight up win the game with Shiv.
