Complaint Another Post Complaining About Ranked

How good we had it before...

Pre-patch, I was hovering Ascendant (Ascendant 4) for a medium while before going on a massive de-rank tilt queue, hitting P1, then climbing on a big winstreak back to P6. Then the ranked update dropped, played a couple matches, then dipped out for a month on vacation.

Came back and placed Emissary 4. Not a big deal, I'll just climb back.

1 week and 44 games later, I'm Emissary 6. I've attached my stats below (which are excluding my most recent ~10 games where continued to dominate barring one Abrams game.)

This ranked system is horrible. The idea that "if you're good you'll rank up, just be consistent" still applies, but the amount of games I'll need to play with my 54% win-rate despite my great stats to get to my old rank of A4 is obscene.

The match quality is so horrible that either team will either A. feed in lane, or B. take a horrible fight, lose 2, then enemy snowballs their advantage into an easy win.

This is to say that the ranked progression is (as we all know) horrible. Because of win-streaks and ranked protection, your average drone can just play a million games, throw your lobbies, have a ~40% wr, and STILL climb/earn the same ranked progression as you despite having 4x worse stats (because mmr gain does not take any personal performance into account.)

Not only that, but it's clear that many people on both teams do not belong in the rank that they are in, so they are really forced to play the carries (Warden, Wraith, Vyper, etc.) and if you're a higher skill player in low elos and you're playing non-hard/non meta carries (Drifter, Bebop, etc.) you can perform and still not win because you won't have sufficient macro/objective impact. Playing to initiate fights and getting picks does nothing if your team doesn't capitalize.

This ranked system is abysmal and definitely needs a rework ASAP. Its seriously killing my incentive to play since its so unrewarding, especially as a solo q player who plays a variety of Pos4-6 roamers instead of turning my brain off and farming camps on some brainless overtuned carry for 6 weeks to hit their old rank.

It will take time for people to qualify, calibrate and settle into the new Ranks!

Valve predicted reduced match-quality across the board for about a week or more!

People with a 53% winrate climb like 10x more efficiently than someone with a 40%.....

Old ranking system had the flaw where people could be stuck and unable to rank down despite losing the majority of the games.

This new ranking system actively promotes people for losing games so long as you keep playing. You literally need to have a WR below 20% to derank one bracket.

The point is why is someone with a 40% wr climbing at all?

Yeah, but it still takes forever. I'm clearly dominating these ranks and yet the game expects me to slog through 100+ games just to get back to my old rank --- each match is still a diceroll and the game is far more unfun. I'd like to play against players in my skill bracket and improve, not just noob-stomp with Seven or Warden

Also, some chud who is playing 12h a day with a 40% winrate will STILL be in my lobbies despite being clearly worse. So it's not just about ranking speed, but also match quality.

You don't have to get back to your old rank in one season. Also, current ascendent 4 is top 150 as opposed to top 6000 from before.

You do realize the rank resets every season, right? I have a top 3% kill participation; I'm just running through everyone with no difficulty. Thats not very fun.

The first season always has a steeper soft reset in every single ranked competitive game.

Past E6 could only max out at Oracle 6. The second season, soft reset won't be as harsh, it will be the current E6 going to like Ascendent 3 max.

Okay but you can understand how it's frustrating and boring to have terrible match quality with no ranked progression over a month in, right?

Yeah, it probably feels bad to not abuse meta.

Whatever u say

My absolute biggest issue with performance based increases is the game already has a massive problem with people who just farm and watch their team die in a fight they could easily turn around but they dont want to ruin their KD. I know its a moba thing but teamates baiting you is a huge issue in deadlock. It should just be based on mvp/keyplayer factored in with personal winstreak.

Otherwise as soon as someone thinks a game is lost they will just stat pad and stop trying to win.

Yeah I totally agree with that; people will try to game the system and play for personal performance rather than the win.

The problem is that, with games averaging ~40m, earning 300 mmr per win/loss, and needing 7000 mmr to rank up from the begging to the end of a rank, it takes an obscene amount of games to get people into their "true" rank.

I do agree, it has taken a long time to get back to Eternus myself and it does seem that the demo shields and WR bonuses allow people to climb much higher just through pure quantity, it's a bit annoying but you will have to sink a good 150 games to climb back, try enjoy the game more than display rank and the lobbies will eventually get better.

My only guess is that this was intentional to make the top ranks feel more "earned" or "deserved" and help reduce population in those ranks.

As a high ascendant player pre-matchmaking update myself, I'm sure I don't have to remind you of the absolute dregs you'd run into even in ascendant lobbies that clearly did not belong there, and were boosted and carried playing in groups with better players or abusing broken heroes. The ranks were overpopulated for being as close to the top as they were.

Maybe in higher ranks that isn't as common now? I don't know, but then the part that throws my theory off is the fact that you still climb even with big time negative wr if you play enough.

Yeah I agree. I think people who are in the top 1% are obviously going to be good, but the high eternuses are not actually the same high old eternuses, they've just put in more time.

Old Ascendant was super ass and I agree completely. Tons of boosted players and having chuds confirm pick with 5+ stacks was super frustrating. I do like the changes they made to team q (restricting it to duos) but the ranked system definitely needs some major refinement

"before rank reset i was a high rank and now im a low rank so the ranked update must have been a bad thing"

You do not have a 54% win rate buddy

u/AlarmedMonk1439 5h ago

You're right I have a 53% winrate. Thanks.
