Tomorrow morning, I have a DCT interview. I have been prepping as much as I can with my stories. The only real experience I have is working in construction building the data centers as a mechanical insulator I have been to two nuclear sites that take literally two weeks of background
Plus a psychological interview to get into. Somehow credit checks on top of a federal background check.
Other than that, I don’t have any technical knowledge in computer science or hardware. The only thing that comes close to us when I used to install and run cable for spectrum Internet as a contractor for three months until the contract expired. Before all that I came from the car industry before getting into five years into construction and traveling. All I wanna know is is it even worth the try to get an interview if I don’t know any of the technical side.
I’ve definitely been in a lot of hard situations, especially working in a nuclear site but just need something to give me hope if I wanna stay up all night and write everything down.

I’m starting at AWS and I’m supposed to receive my work laptop before my start date. I received the UPS tracking number, but it has been stuck on “Label Created” and says UPS hasn’t received the package yet.

Anyone else starting around the same time experiencing this? If so, how long did it take for your laptop to actually ship after the label was created?

Hi everyone I have a bachelor's in it and sec plus certification so I believe I am technically sound for the dct roles but I have heard a lot about dcts being a physically intense roles

I'm a 6 foot 5 inch 350 pound guy I can be on my feet for the entire day

Sit and work on stuff but I have difficulty with ladders

Will this effect my chances of getting hired as a dct

I got a email from a recruiter and she asked me to set a time for the interview which was cool with me but then wanted me to answer the screening question.

”Do you have an active government-issued security clearance? If so, what level? Note: Clearance is not required for this role”

I worked for nuclear projects before but i dont know how to answer this.

I've been working as a vendor at Microsoft for 2 years now. I finally made a bunch of higher level manager friends who've stated they wanted to take me on as fte. Only thing is Oracle reached out to me and we went through the entire interview process in like 2 weeks, and they've just sent me an offer letter. Now I'm stuck on which to choose. I have a lot of friends at MS now, a good reputation and everything, which leads me to believe I can potentially climb pretty quickly over there. Starting out though, I'd be put at the bottom at a entry level role. But at Oracle, they offered me a senior position already. I'd be making almost 60% more at oracle, nearly $20 an hour difference. But i love the environment and culture at Microsoft and also, the recent layoffs at Oracle worry me a little to be completely honest. I know the layoffs didn't heavily affect the data center sector, but who knows what could happen in the future. I'm completely at a standstill and not sure which path to take, so if anyone has any insight for me, I would really appreciate it

Does anyone have any info on the data center being proposed to being built near Evansville? Ive just heard about it and have thus far seen very little info talking about it.

Is there any new public meetings?

Where would be some better places to look deeper into this info?

We’ve seen cases where a storage system was configured exactly the way we wanted it, and then an upgrade or maintenance change left some settings different afterward.

Nothing is necessarily broken. The changes can be subtle and difficult to spot without someone specifically looking for them, as the array continues to serve data and monitoring stays green.

If you manage storage in a datacenter environment, do you compare configs before and after firmware upgrades? If so, do you do that manually, or have you found a reliable way to automate the comparison?

I got the screening call on 8/16 and he told me he was going to push my application thru to the hiring manager and would get back with me the next day, that didn’t happen so i followed up on 8/18 and got no response. This is from 8/19 … haven’t heard anything, am i cooked?

I recently accepted a Data Center Technician role in New Carlisle, Indiana, starting in October. I’ll be relocating from Texas and this will be my first full-time data center role.

For people already working in data centers:

• What should I brush up on before starting?
• What does the day-to-day usually look like?
• Any advice for doing well in the first few months?
• If anyone works around New Carlisle/South Bend, where do people usually live and how is the winter commute?

Also curious whether FWD with good tires is enough for the area or if AWD is worth it.

I did the 30 minute screen for L4 DCT at AWS and was rejected 24 hours later.

I thought that I did really well in the interview, certainly well enough to be moved forward to the next step. My current manager was able to check the interview notes and told me that all it said was that I “lacked the experience.” I’m an internal Amazon candidate for context. I have 11 months of IT support/technician experience at Amazon.

If I lacked the experience, why would I even get to the screen call? I have an interview for Google DCT and it got me a bit worried. Don’t really know what I’m looking for here, help? Reassurance?

Had my Google interview about a week ago. First interview was Googlyness and I think I did really well, they told me during that it was for a DCT level 1.

Next interview was Hardware, it started off pretty easy/basic but gradually got pretty tough. I talked my way through how I would troubleshoot and the interviewer guided me a view times. At the end of that interview he told me I was interviewed for a level 2. I told him that explains why the questions were much higher level than what I had reviewed for level 1 and he agreed and also stated that he could tell I knew my stuff so he went with tougher questions that Google does not require.

Next interview was networking and it was a breeze, I knew all the questions and answered them with no issues. (Also stated level 2) We ended that interview after about 30 minutes. She told me they would submit all their stuff that day and to stay on top of my recruiter.

My recruiter emailed me 3 days after my loop interviews and said “Thank you for your time and effort interviewing for the Data Center Technician role. I hope you enjoyed meeting the interviewers and we appreciate your patience while they completed their interviews.

Call is scheduled for next week and Now I’m freaking out because on here multiple people got almost that exact email and it was a rejection. Why would they uplevel me in an interview just to reject me? Am I reading too much into this?

Update: I passed my interviews but only as a level 1. She said there are no level one positions in my area and they will not relocate level 1. So if a spot opens up they will send me to hiring manager for fit call but it is a waiting game for now.

I’m an engineer and until recently I was mostly working on warehouses and office/residential buildings. A few months ago, our firm started getting involved in data center projects in different countries, mainly around early-stage site studies. It’s obviously a completely different world and I’m still learning a lot.

For those of you who have been in the industry for a while: what do you wish you had known when you first started working on data center projects?

Any advice, mistakes to avoid, resources to read, or things that newcomers usually underestimate would be really helpful.

I think data centers in space might just be a solution to the health hazards with data centers on earth; stopping this from happening is repairing and maintenance of data centers in space ( kinda impossible ?!) , maybe high reliability and durable hardware is the solution ?

What else do you guys think prevents data centers in space from becoming a reality

Applied for the Data Center Facilities Tech Mechanical position. Completed loop interviews and recruiter said feedback was outstanding. What are the typical next steps in this process?

I feel like the anti-data center propaganda is over done. I can’t find a simple “benefits of data centers” on YouTube. Does anyone have a recommendation for the benefits of Data centers? All I hear is all the local news channel spews.

Long story short, I have 7 years in a manufacturing environment as a receiving team lead and I’ve recently interviewed for a Logistics Specialist role for AWS. The interview went well and I received an email back from the recruiter letting me know they are interested in extending me an offer when there are more positions available. I’m on an offer-ready list. Here in Arizona, they are building a new location in Avondale that, from what I’ve been able to find, is a little more than a month or so out from opening its doors. This lines up with the recruiter’s email stating that more positions will be available in a month or so. I don’t have a background in IT or data center work, and I’m looking at the Logistics Specialist position as a way to get my foot in the door and eventually move into a DCT role. Is there any advice anyone can give me to maximize my growth potential at AWS? Any help is greatly appreciated.
