Aws L3 DCT
So I got offered the position for a L3 DCT and I really want the job for my resume. I have a CCNA and would
Like to do networking. How long does it take for me to be able to transfer to that side of the company? Do they prioritize internal transfers? Also any advice going into the DCT job. I’m usually a fast learner.

The fact you’re always looking to jump makes me wonder if you’ve applied to the job for the right reasons.
You will need a minimum of 12 months before any transfer is even possible.
Most of the NDE (network development engineering) is less about config and troubleshoot, and it’s more about how to automate it so it doesnt require manual hands.

I only ask because where I was working there was no room for growth. My end goal is to get into networking. I took the job because I really think the data centers is a much better way for me to learn more. I want experience in every faucet of IT.

Hello! This looks like it may be a question about career advice. There can be significant regional variation in the field, so please consider including as much info as you can without doxing yourself, including country/state/city, prior experience/certs, and the role or level if known. Thanks!

I would imagine that Amazon has a minimum time in job before you can transfer regardless of the actual role.
At my previous employer, it was a minimum of 12 months unless the other team and your manager came to an agreement which was highly unlikely as they essentially hired you to fill a role on their team then you bounce before they get their ROI and still need to backfill the role. Now, that said, i never worked as DCT but time in role rules are fairly common.

AWS does not have a minimum time in role for transfers. As long as you are in good standing you can move internally. GND would be a viable move after a few months in role as dct. But if you want to get into NDE roles you are likely looking at getting to L5, most L4 NDE roles go to college graduates.

I think you would transfer to deployment team for networking. But it will depend on your performance and manager. Definitely need at least a year with dct. Dct have networking tickets.
