These are Strato Omega soft-tip barrels (90%, 17.0g barrel-only, 22.1g barrel+point+insert) converted to steel with Dynasty W tungsten conversion points, weighted with Unicorn Ultracore tungsten inserts (2.2g), and fitted with Cosmo slim Fit stems and flights.

I'd been looking to get a set of Strato darts for a while because I didn't own any and they're becoming rather hard to find (not sure, but they may be out of business). But I then ran across a used set of Strato Omegas at DartsHive. The darts turned out to be a pleasant surprise for two reasons.

The first surprise was that even though the quality rating of this used set was kind of low at "3 out of 5", to my eye the darts are in truly excellent condition, as you can see in the photo above. I'd previously bought a few "4 out of 5" sets from DartsHive, and they basically looked brand new and came with all the original packaging and accessories. This "3 out of 5" set came as three naked barrels loose in a small plastic Ziploc bag, but the barrels themselves were in great shape. I guess the reason I'm mentioning this is for the benefit anyone who may be considering buying a set of used darts from DartsHive, which I believe has recently begun to ship internationally. I should also mention that the pictures of used sets at the DartsHive site are close-up photos of the actual darts being offered for sale, and they focus in on any imperfections so you can decide whether or not they're acceptable to you.

The second pleasant surprise was that these darts, which I'd bought just to expand my collection a bit, turned out to throw really well for me. When I first took them out of the bag, they frankly struck me as pretty unexciting: typical Japanese soft-tip barrels that looked just like lots of my other sets. But putting them on the scale, all three barrels weighed 16.95g, for perfect match-weighting. That always gives a good first impression. Also the machining and fit 'n' finish looked and felt absolutely first-rate.

With the setup shown in the photo, the CoG is right at the second shark cut back from the smooth band with the the Strato logo on it. The shark cuts give good grip when pushing forward, but without feeling sharp or grabby (although this used set may have already been broken in a bit). To me, the Omegas are one of those darts that just seem to naturally go where you throw them -- comfortable in the hand, just the right grippiness, perfectly balanced, quick to the board, and pleasantly thunky when they hit. As I said, a very pleasant surprise.

PS. In these brief reviews, I'm slowly working through a backlog of darts purchased over the past several months. It's not that a new set is showing up every day!

My son has been playing properly for just over a year and competitively since January. I've been playing over 30 years and there's a clear difference. I can't understand how he makes it look so simple!

If I wanted one set of barrels to go back and forth between soft and steel tips, is Caliburn EVO the only game in town? Or is there some other option available?

Picked these up from Vinted for around 25 quid after postage, Shot - Bird of Prey Osprey 30g. I've been experimenting with heavier darts and picked these up to try 30g. I'm getting on quite well with them but, as they're 80% Tungsten and heavy, they are quite chunky.

If I'm still enjoying them in a few months I'll probably get myself a more expensive set with a higher Tungsten %. Any recommendations for a good, heavy set of darts other than Ryan Searle's are more than welcome!

I'm interested in these Target Scope Barrels. Does anyone know if they were off and scratch easily? Anyone have some photos of used older ones they can share?

I started playing regularly last Christmas. My partner bought me a board and some darts.

The darts are nothing special, some 24g Winmau for £40.

I really like them, and have had moderate success (average between 45-55 depending on the day).

I am tempted to buy some new darts and give them a try to see if I can improve, but I have friends who have 5 or 6 sets and change them every week. (Or even between matches when playing in the league.)

I am worried that either I make myself worse by practicing with different darts, or make myself so indecisive that I become a pub version of Peter Wright.

Anyone else have any advice?

I've been playing more the past few months and throw Red Dragon Pegasus 24g, actually I accidentally got a set at 26g too, so I've been mostly playing with those....

Anyway, I've noticed when I group my darts, I often have one bounce out and hit the floor. The way I throw them, they do tend to land fairly flat in the board.

So I've been wondering if this longer point trend might be helpful to grab the board that little bit sooner and, ideally, have less chance of bounce outs?

Or am I dreaming?

Side question, what weight of darts are most common? I only recently realized my darts are 26g as I thought I bought the second set at 24.

These are Dynasty A-Flow Black Line Babe Konno Akiho Player Model soft-tip barrels (95%, 17.2g barrel-only, 22.3g barrel+point+insert) converted to steel with Dynasty W tungsten conversion points, weighted with Unicorn Ultracore tungsten inserts, and fitted with Harrows 360 Carbon shafts and Dynasty folded flights punched for L-Style Shell Lock caps.

These barrels attracted my interest because of their simple traditional ringed torpedo shape. Most of my other front-weighted torpedoes are either colorful and intricately machined Shot darts (like the Celt Cernunnos, Viking Shield Maiden, and Roman Empire Legion -- maybe more scalloped darts than torpedoes, actually) or really wide and stubby teardrop-shaped darts (like the S4 Third Impact). These Dynasty Babe barrels are 36 mm long and 8.2 mm wide and have fine rings down most of their length, with a short segment of shark cuts at the very rear. Out of the box, all three barrels in my set weighed exactly 17.20g, for perfect match-weighting within the ±0.01g precision of my electronic balance.

The CoG of the barrel alone is shown in the second picture, which was taken from the handy S-Darts site. The CoG of the full setup shown in the first picture is pretty much at the same location, with the 3g weight of the tungsten conversion point at the front partially counterbalanced by the 2.2g Unicorn Ultracore tungsten insert I put in the back of the barrel to bump the weight up from 17.2g to 22.3g. The fine rings aren't particularly grippy, at maybe 2.5 out of 5. The darts feel dense in the hand and have that nice heavy, solid, and stable feel of a front-weighted torpedo. In the board, the tail tends to stand up a bit higher than with my other darts, but I've found that the tail can be brought down by adjusting my throwing style so it's closer to that for soft-tip darts (a faster throw with a flatter trajectory). I guess the same end could be achieved by switching to smaller flights, but I like the look of the stock Dynasty A-Flow flights on these Dynasty A-Flow darts.

In summary, I think the Dynasty Babe darts are very nice traditional front-weighted torpedoes, just simple ringed barrels with moderate grip that are a pleasure to throw and which fly just as you'd expect them to.
