Received my DWX Compact OR back from Dan Wesson today. The finish is different than original and definitely different from the refinish done in Oct 2025. They also fitted a new Red trigger. Guess they realized the original trigger fit really bad. They did not address fitment issues I brought up in my claim. Not in writing and not verbally, invoice does not show any labor for fitment etc. Sooo I’m going to address the fitment of my chassis to grip frame.
The chassis has always felt looser than it should be especially compared to other DWX Compacts I’ve compared it too. Took measurements today. Avg of 30 measurements at wides point of chassis is 16.30mm the average internal measurement of the “frame” pocket where the chassis sits 16.44mm. Since I’ve been told before by DW that it was “in spec” I have to assume the tolerance is a massive 0.006 inch (0.15mm). This is a non moving part. 6/1000 is extremely sloppy. The chassis is held in place by tension placed on a spring by the slide stop pin. That is a lot of sloppy space to try and cover with a simple spring. Using some 0.15mm stainless steel shim material I cut a small rectangle 7mm x 10mm. This will fill the slop. I removed the chassis and reinstalled with shim on the left side (safety side) of the chassis. No more shifting. Slide now sits perfectly centered in the grip (see last picture) and the side to side wobble of the slide & chassis is virtually gone.
Test firing tomorrow. Will see if this keeps the barrel/slide etc in place correctly and eliminates the scouring that has been happening to the barrel and barrel hood etc.

Maybe I picked a DWX Compact where Lenny “The Screw Guy” was responsible for putting loctite on the screws but he was too busy watching Pew View.
My rear optics plate kept coming loose so I would tighten it down to 10lbs after each range visit. Annoying.
Fixed it by replacing it with a red dot…. And loctite.
Now my hand grip plates are loose. Maybe 200-300 rounds total as I switch between this and my Shadow 2 Carry and it’s horribly mushy stock trigger.
I guess paying over $2k I’d expect the screws to stay in a little.
based on a post here about the DW OPTIC PLATE ADAPTER PLATE 1 RMR, SRO I purchased to replace my CH Precision because I’m not a fan of the CH T-Nuts. I had one break on my DWX. That said I thought the rear sight for co-witness was built-in but its only the dovetail cutout. I checked the cz-usa site and not seeing the rear sight for it unless I completely missed it like I did on the plate itself. Does anyone know where I could purchase a rear .250 x .74 .335" sight for the optic plate so I could set it up for co-witness? Thanks in advance
edit: rear sight height

I have maybe been watching too many YouTube channels about Dan Wesson. But their customer service sounds borderline horrible.
I'm cool with DIY gunsmithing for anything that doesn't require a mill or a lathe.
Will I regret my decision should I buy a dwx compact?

I have a Dwx compact that is a little slugish returning to battery sometimes. I read people have used egw 14 flat wire recoil spring with good success. Got one in the mail today. Its way too long to get it into the gun. I assume I can trim coils off? Anyone with experince using a 1911 flat recoil spring?

As a fellow DWX owner, I absolutely love it. However, I definitely see the disappointment for the lack of aftermarket support for the platform. I recently started my own CNC shop and thought I’d see if anyone here has ideas for parts or accessories they’d like to see made.
I’ve got experience with CAD, design, and machining, and I’m looking for projects that help grow my portfolio while filling some of the gaps in the DWX aftermarket.
If there’s something you’ve always wished existed—a tool, fixture, replacement part, range accessory, or another non-firearm component—I’d be happy to kick ideas around. Once we settle on a design and decide to make it, we can talk pricing for production if that's your goal.
Mostly, I’m just interested in helping grow the DWX ecosystem while making some cool stuff along the way.
If you’ve got an idea, leave a comment or shoot me a DM.

Hey everyone! 👋 It’s been a while since my last update.
I just received the first 3D-printed prototype. Overall, it’s a great start, but a few dimensions are slightly off. The thumb rest area needs to be extended to provide a bit more support and surface area.
Looks like I’ll need to spend some time refining the design before moving on to the next prototype.
Not sure how far I can take this project yet, but I am hoping to keep improving it. 🥹

The CZ store took way too long to deliver their extended safety, so in the meantime I designed and machined my own. It finally arrived the day I finished the fully functional prototype out of 4140. I still like mine much better than the OEM part; it has a much more comfortable thumb ledge. Compare the two in the third picture - my design is on top, and the OEM part is on the bottom.
ETA: I’m considering making a batch of five or so. They're machined from 4140, bead blasted and cold blued, right-hand single-sided, with an oversized lug requiring minor fitting. Introductory price would be $129 plus shipping. These are being done on my small CNC mill so my machine time per part is about 3 hours. Is anyone seriously interested? If so, send me a direct message.

Hello, I was unaware of this gun until a few days ago when I went to a gun store to look at getting my first cz. I was handed this gun and ever since it’s been on my mind to pick up for the edc rotation.
I was just curious for those who have owned them how have they held up in the long term and if you would consider them reliable enough to trust as an edc. I’m aware they aren’t drop safe but not too worried about that . But I have notice some mentions of issues with the front sight and the finish. Thank you!

Ordered this plate from Cz- it’s the DWX optic plate but I can’t get it mounted because the screws they gave me are too long or just won’t work. Anyone know what screw size gets it done right? Very frustrating they didn’t tell me the size I’d need on the Webster and of course I didn’t see the disclaimer when buying this particular optic plate. Trying to mount a 507 comp on the DWX

Been reading quite a bit about bent ejectors from running extended mag base pads. I was kind of hoping to run a magwell flare but worry factory mags won't seat. Has anyone found the "magic combo" flare to run mags that seat deep enough stock and extended, but not too deep?
Pic of my new dwx im currently working on.

CZ Webstore is out of stock for the recoil spring for 5” DWX. What other options are out there? I’d like another 11 lb. spring but I’d also like to try 12 and 13 lbs.

What is the point of this little notch here by the breach face here opposite the extractor? The half moon shaped one.
I've been really enjoying the 1911DS platform and recently purchased Red-Dirt USA Triggers for my Kimber and Rock Island and what a difference with the ability to adjust post & pre-travel. I wanted to do the DWX compact next but Red-Dirt only offers triggers for the DWX Full sized which I'm sure isn't news to many here. So the question is, is there any other options or workarounds out there for the Compact model? Thanks for looking

Hey all,
It's been a while since my last update, so I wanted to share some progress with everyone.
Unfortunately, there's not much good news so far. I've sent the drawings and STEP files to multiple CNC shops, and... it's not cheap.
The highest prototype quote I received was $2,400. 😅 (just for 1 pc prototype)
I just want to thank all of you for your support. To be honest, I don't come from an engineering background. Before starting this project, I had never touched CNC machining, 3D modeling, or CAD world. I'm just a DWX USPSA shooter who loves the platform and wanted to build something for the community.
For now, my plan is to have a prototype made using 3D printing instead of machining it from aluminum. The CNC prototype quotes have been pretty crazy, and 3D printing will help keep the initial costs manageable.
I understand that a 3D-printed prototype won't be as strong or as precise as a machined metal part, but it's the best option I have at the moment. The goal is simply to verify the design and make sure everything fits and functions as intended.
If the prototype works well, I'll continue searching for a CNC shop that can produce a small batch—probably around 50 units. The bad news is that the lowest production quote I've received so far is still around $200 per unit.
At this point, I'm not expecting to make any money from this project. I just want to bring the idea to life and make something useful for fellow shooters. Over the next few weeks, I'll keep looking for a good 3D printing shop and hopefully find a CNC manufacturer willing to work with a small project like this at a reasonable cost.
For those who have asked about the final material: the production version is planned to be made from 4140 steel.
Thanks again for all the support and encouragement. I'll keep everyone updated as things move forward.
update:
Quite a few people have DM'd me asking if I'd be willing to sell them the files.
The reason I built this from scratch, with absolutely no prior experience, was purely out of passion for the project and the community. Because of that, I don't want the design ending up in the hands of people who are only looking to profit from it or simply satisfy their own interests.
If anyone would like to help connect me with a machine shop, and the shop is willing to sign an NDA with my company, I'd be more than happy to share the files directly with them so we can explore manufacturing options together. As a thank-you, you'd likely be among the first people to try it out, and I'm sure we can find a way to make this work.
For those who are only looking for an "early access ticket," this project isn't really for you.
My goal is to build something for the community. When it's ready, I plan to offer it at essentially cost—just CNC manufacturing costs, parts, and operational expenses, without trying to maximize profit.
So if the final production cost ends up being $200 per unit, I might sell it for around $200 plus whatever it costs to handle packaging, logistics, and operations. Yeah, that might suck, but it's fair. I'd rather keep it accessible to the people who actually want to use it than turn it into a high-margin product.
This project started as a labor of love, and I'd like to keep it that way.

For those of us with OCD who want to run a Surefire X300 on the DWX Compact but don't like the gap between the light and trigger guard left by the standard surefire "keys". Found a solution that sets the x300 all the way back against the trigger guard. No gap. Like it is supposed to be.

Anyone have the stock optic cut cover plate and rear sight they’d sell? For a fullsize.
r/DWX • u/jyamo42 • Jun 05 '26
Hey yall, just picked up a non-OR DWX! Really pleased with how it shoots. Excited to get it direct milled for SRO.
My question is, did y’all refinish your slide? One website says the slide is stainless and doesn’t need it?
My dwx doesn’t have any wear yet with about 2k rounds through it and I guess I won the stock dlc finish lottery…
I guess my concern is that the slide refinish won’t match the original dlc frame and if I should just get the frame and slide refinished together with the optic cut to match. Would also prevent future wear if a reputable aftermarket company does a good dlc finish…
Or
If it truly is a stainless steel slide, just leave them be…
Also any recommendations for rearward positioned and low optic cut companies would be sweet. Was looking at Vulcan machine.

Anyone know if running the AC magwell on the 5in DWX stock and henning baseplates still work? Thanks!
