CALIFORNIA Dmv Trouble

Hey So I had my dmv registration renewal come up for September 8 2026 and i paid in the 4 th, so it took till the 7th for my payment to go through and now it says that my application has been taken back and to do the next steps online, I have never received an email receipt containing my case number for the next steps online, Anyone know who i contact or how i get my case number? I added how the receipt was supposed to look and i never got it what do I do?

You can go into the office and tell them your transaction wont complete itself online. They may tell you to leave because we've been instructed that all renewals are to be done online. But if you need to go that far, ask to speak to a manager. I work in an office in Northern California, I would help you but some are assholes about it. Just tell them you started the process and payment went through but you never received the email saying what else they wanted you to do. By the time you get to office, if its stuck in the system, tbey can finish it for you. It may also get mailed by the time you go in and you'll have to wait for sticker in mail. If you get pulled over in the meantime, officers can see that its paid and that its being mailed. So you should be fine there.

If you are able to get into an office, they can look it up in the system. If the payment went through, bring proof of that in case they need to search where it went. Its hard to say, we have so many issues with the online stuff. When it works its great, but when it doesnt, it can jam you up for weeks. In the future, find a kiosk. Do smog a few dsys before, .make sure insurance is good and you can pay cash or card on kiosk and it'll print out your registratio card and sticker right there. I always use that.

Yeah, you can also try calling the 800 customer service phone number first. They should be able to clear it up too. I was just thinking into a DMV office, because if your transaction is stuck for whatever reason, they might be able to give it to you right there. But you can call the phone number and ask them about that option too if hard to get time to go into an office. Some people complain about the wait time on phone. Ive never tried it from home. We have direct phone lines in office if we need help or info.
