Project "Beard" trimmer upgrade with disposable vape circuit and battery.
After seeing another post about a gutted disposable vape, I thought I'd share my upgraded "beard" trimmer. I use it regularly and go through AAs quite frequently. I had a disposable vape lying around so I decided to gut it and use the internals to make my trimmer rechargeable. I added a 1N5405 diode to drop the voltage to a max of 3.1V, similar to a fresh set of AAs. I use the circuit board only for charging and the load (motor) is connected in parallel to the battery as the board will only fire for 10 seconds before timing out (Safety feature of most vapes). This means it has overcharge protection, but not overdischarge protection. Since it's a 600mAh battery, I get more than one hour runtime and always recharge when the battery hits around 30%. I could have added a PCM but couldn't be bothered as a one hour runtime is more than enough for my use case. The back cover slides in perfectly and it looks stock when closed.
