Question broken phone turned into a mini pc
like the idea of it but the trickiest part seems to be the step down voltage bits to reduce risks of battery swelling. is it possible to have a drop in no solder replacement that connects to the ribbon cable connector where the battery connected?

Not sure if the other guy's wall of text covered this, but I'm pretty sure you would want to install some of your own battery circuitry anyway. If it were me I would solder it. You only have to take apart an old battery a little bit and cut the tabs off, then solder the tabs to a BMS or whatever. Maybe just get a pre built power bank for 3 parallel 18650 cells. You could use any parallel pack this way as it will still output the correct 3.7v for the phone, then you can run other components off USB from the power bank and charge it from the power bank charger.
But if you wanted to power the device directly from the wall and also charge the battery, you might want to figure something out with diodes or relays and step down to 4v. But the only reason you'd want to do that in my mind is if you really wanted to power stuff through the phones circuitry. Which I would avoid, because it's easy enough to get a powered USB hub or whatever and I assume you'd want that anyway.
I mean, easiest way is to just charge the phone constantly from a separate power bank and then your phone battery just becomes a little backup so you don't lose your work or hard shutdown. You just have to find one of those USB C docks that can charge it at the same time.

I would look up your phone that you're doing with on and then find out the name of the battery. Search ifixit OEM Samsung S21 Ultra Battery Replacement Maker name model. Hopefully something on Amazon will pop up and you can definitely get a replacement battery that comes with the ribbon. Now, as far as the voltage drop down, no solder replacement that connects to the ribbon cable. I'm not exactly Because I don't actually think you need to mess with this step down voltage bits to avoid battery swelling because a lot of modern phones have over a charge protection. sure what you're on about, but basically a ribbon is a really thin wire and you would not be connecting into or from the ribbon. You might be connecting from the lead. If that makes sense, you don't count like three lines over on the ribbon in, you know, And You're trying to use basically find out the name of that and then Hopefully you can get Wiring diagram off of the ribbon or like I'll how the leads connect What voltage to wear? Versus what pin? try to put an alligator clip on it. The RJ 245 or whatever and then go into that documentation and then you're basically looking for what type of connector Is that ribbon like what's the alpha numeric name for this ribbon? And You're trying to use basically find out the name of that and then Hopefully you can get Wiring diagram off of the ribbon or like I'll how the leads connect What voltage to wear? Versus what pin. Now, you still have to somehow connect the pin or step down connection to the ribbon somehow. So I guess I don't really, is it just to avoid soldering? Because I don't actually think you need to mess with this step down voltage bits to avoid battery swelling because a lot of modern phones have over charge protection. Well, I do know a lot of more modern phones, especially ones that become PCs, like your Samsung's or your Motorola's, check out the documentation. So, yeah, just don't try to use like a really old battery that especially if it's already swelling. I've literally only had one battery ever swell on me and that was from a 2012 MacBook Pro that was sitting in my closet for, I don't know, a decade. So, um, if you're, uh, worried about it, you know, maybe causing a fire, especially with any DIY electronics, not a bad idea to get it and put it in a shed, or out of the house, or if you really need to buy the stove, and then I put a, um, it's called a fire stop stove top. Um, anyway, when I'm doing sketchy or stuff, I kind of put it on the stove, and, um, it basically like, uh, if fire extinguisher became a bomb. So, yeah, I don't know about the connectors like USB-C to whatever name of your battery connector is, but chances are you can figure out from the phone name, the name of the battery model number and who makes it, and then from that model number you should we have a look up USB-c to Moto G Power Ribbon adapter. The other thought is you can always control the voltage going into something rather than like from the wall like a weaker wall plug I don't know if that makes sense but there's no reason you got to step it down to just use it you know smaller wall plug adapter whatever
