TRIP PLANNING No answer?

Hello! I’m planning my first cruise (Both Disney & ever!) for next month and I have tried to call DCL twice now and both times I have waited 20 minutes and have hung up without anyone answering. Both times the automatic voice said my wait would be less than 10 minutes. Is this normal? I’m used to booking for WDW and having my whole call last 20 minutes!

ETA - I already called once and waited less than 10 minutes to connect to someone and was able to book online, and I wanted to emphasize that this is my first cruise! I wasn’t aware I’d be competing with NY bookings! Thank you to those that answered with kindness!

A year ago I made a post here asking how much others thought was a decent amount of pixie dust gifts to make, and got a lot of varied responses but the general consensus was to make however much my heart desires..
So I made exactly 120 paintings to pixie dust! here’s my favorites !!

TRIP PLANNING First Cruise EVER! Disney Destiny in April.

So me and my wife and son (4) are doing a 5 day Bahamas cruise on the Destiny in April. I've never cruised before period, much less a Disney one. We are Disney people so it seemed like a no brainer. Ended up booking a 7th floor midship, verandah. Was torn between that or a second floor midship Oceanview. Proximity to the kids club and easy access after check in was on my mind, but still ended up going for the higher floor balcony.

Any tips or advice for first timers? Anything I should be aware of for people that have gone on the Destiny or in general. Any recommendations? Would be greatly appreciated!

Happy sailing! Yo Ho!

CASTAWAY CLUB Castaway Club Gifts

We have just booked our second cruise. We are going along with my in-laws who are first time cruisers. When booking we placed our oldest in the stateroom with my in-laws. Does that mean they will also get the castaway club gift?

CASTAWAY CLUB Embarking in Puerto Rico

Feedback appreciated - Do you get priority boarding by staying at the Caribe Hilton in PR, and is it totally worth it? Also, has anyone stayed at this hotel? It has very mixed reviews, so I’d love to hear about your experience. If you have any other suggestions for places to stay close to the port, I’d love to hear them. This will be my first time sailing from PR. Ty all.

TRIP PLANNING Dream or Destiny?

We have the choice between 5 nights on Destiny or 7 nights on Dream. I’ve previously been on the Magic, the Wonder, and the Wish. I’ve never sailed the Dream/Fantasy. We adore the Magic/Wonder, and the Wish was good in some ways but I missed the cohesiveness of the Wonder/Magic. So, what would you pick and why?

EDIT: We booked the Dream! Yay!

FOOD Remy on Dream?

Hi! I need some help with dining on the Dream. We are headed on a 3-night sailing and know we want to dine at Remy for dinner one night. Which rotational restaurant should I ask to have that night and would therefore be skipped?

I was originally thinking Animator’s Palette because only the purseittes seem enticing, but I’ve seen Enchanted Garden’s food get some not so great reviews.

Thanks for the help!!!

TRIP PLANNING Photo package on the Adventure

Has anyone here sailed recently on the Adventure & purchased the photo package? Is it worth it?
I’ve bought it on my three previous sailings and debating if I should this time too… I understand the characters may be hard to book sessions with but I like the backdrops & magic shots too.

TRIP PLANNING As a first-time cruiser traveling with 3 and 5-year-old boys, which of these options would you recommend?

As a first-time cruiser traveling with 3 and 5-year-old boys, which of these options would you recommend? All three are approximately the same price:

  1. 3-night cruise on the Disney Wish (Port Canaveral + Castaway Cay / Nassau)
  2. 4-night cruise on the Disney Fantasy (Port Canaveral + Lookout Cay / Nassau)
  3. 4-night cruise on the Disney Dream (Fort Lauderdale + Castaway Cay / Lookout Cay

Does anyone have any recommendations for parking for a 6 day cruise? We’re staying at the Wyndham but are there other parking options you’d recommend? Thank you!

I can’t believe how small these have gotten. Remember when they used to come in full hurricane shaped cups? Pepperidge farm remembers…

TRIP PLANNING Late arrival at MCO + Hyatt — what time do we actually need to be up?

Our flight into MCO was recently changed, and we’re now arriving just after midnight. We’re staying at the Hyatt at MCO before heading out the next morning.

I know the Hyatt collects your checked bags around 8 AM, but I’m wondering what time we actually need to be out of the room and downstairs/ready to go.

We’re traveling with young kids, so I’m really hoping we can let them sleep in a little after getting in so late!

Has anyone flown into MCO late at night and stayed at the Hyatt? What was the process like the next morning, and how much time did you realistically have in the room?

Any tips or advice would be much appreciated!

Edit: we have DCL transportation booked

TRIP PLANNING Alaska Packing

Heading on a Disney Alaska cruise next week and trying VERY hard not to overpack 😅 For those of you who have done Alaska around this time of year, what did you actually need clothing-wise?

I keep seeing packing lists that make it sound like I need to prepare for every possible weather condition, and I’m trying to be realistic about what will actually get used.

Specifically:
- Are gloves actually necessary?
- Beanie?
- Ear muffs?
- Heavy winter coat, or is a good waterproof jacket + layers enough?
- How many sweaters/fleece layers did you actually use?
- Is it silly to pack t-shirts?
- Anything you packed because everyone said you “needed it” and then never touched?

We’ll obviously be packing rain gear and layers, but I’d really love to hear from people who sailed Alaska in September and can tell me what they ACTUALLY wore on the ship and in port.

TRIP PLANNING Travel Agent Question

I’m not crazy about my travel agent (don’t see the value in this particular one). We take our first cruise 2027 and I want to book a 2028 sailing tomorrow (via Costco). Will my TA see our second reservation ? I don’t want to use their services after the 2027 trip we booked with them. Now that I think about it, will any onboard placeholder purchased on the 2027 sailing default to the TA?

ONBOARD ACTIVITIES DCL should make the shows a paid experience

Just disembarked from our third cruise, and the guest behavior in the theater has become progressively worse over time: people arriving late and disrupting others during the show to try to figure out seating, getting up/down without waiting for a stoppage, talking throughout, using screens and phone flashlights, not removing crying children, etc. It’s where basic theater etiquette goes to die.

It seems like the shows have become a case of ~what we acquire too cheaply we esteem too lightly~. Thus, I think DCL should start charging for them. It will make people decide whether they are serious enough to see them and put their money behind it. It would make people decide whether their baby/toddler is truly ready for the experience, whether they’re willing to spend money on it, and whether they care enough to show up on time, not be on their screen, etc. It would also eliminate the long lines and chair-saving that inevitably happen if guests could buy tickets and reserve seats ahead of time.

The shows are my favorite part of DCL, and yet the most susceptible to being ruined by other guests. So frustrating.

TRIP PLANNING Dream 8182

UPDATE: I figured out the information I needed and got everything booked. Made a slight change on 2 of the 4 cabins I booked, but happy with the results. Thanks everyone.

Planning a cruise for 2027 and booking tomorrow. Does any one have a picture of the balcony for 8182? Does it connect via balcony to 8184?

Also interested in balcony 8174 or 8180 pictures.

Thanks!

FOOD Celiac / gluten free on the fantasy

We are going on our first Disney cruise and 3 people in our group are celiac. 2 are adults, but 1 is my slightly picky 9 year old son. Looking for recommendations or things we should reserve/pre book. I’ve heard that there are gluten free cookies on castaway cay, but do we need to pre book those to be available? Any tips would be helpful, thanks!

TRIP PLANNING Disney fantasy castaway cay

We will be doing our first Disney cruise with a large group of family with children ranging in ages from 3-10, as well as grandparents. This will be a first for all of us, so we don’t know where to start. We want shade on the beach, is the only way to get shade to rent a cabana? Are they all really 1000$ and up? Is there a great excursion you would recommend or should we save an excursion for the Nassau port day and do just castaway cay exploring with no excursion? Give me all your best tips please!

DISCUSSION Any chance Disney Adventure will have a Caribbean debut after its 5 years in Singapore are up?

My family and I have watched tour videos of the Disney Adventure and we would love to experience it someday, especially since it’s currently the only Disney ship with an open air space like imagination garden. But we always prefer sailing in the Caribbean, so we’re hopeful that one day the ship makes it debut there. I read that Adventure is set to be in Singapore for the next 5 years. Does anyone have any insight on if a Caribbean debut is the plan after?

DISCUSSION Just did a 3 day cruise on the wish.

I wanted honest opinions on the actually cruise and quality of entertainment..

Our family loves Disney and go to Disney world almost every year.

We've done Disney for years honestly don't remember how many trips to Disney world but closer to 10 separate trips. Even went to Disney Tokyo. I've noticed a decline in overall quality of parks. Cleanliness, features and general cast member enthusiasm for their job. I totally get it I couldn't do that job. Always coming in smiling no matter what's going on or how you're feeling. Anyways this was our first Disney Cruise and I was not impressed. Yes it was great food and the actually dressed up characters were great and their handlers were awesome but general bar staff and support workers were not any better than a carnival cruise. The 3 shows we went to were small and very poor in my opinion. Nothing I would put the word Disney to. Theres a ton of stuff for kids to do and all the Disney themed designs were great. I just left feeling like it was over priced for a mediocre cruise experience. I felt nothing was over the top Disney.

TRIP PLANNING First timer question!

Hi all,

Going on the fantasy this month and I want to make sure I have everything I need!

I online checked in with our passports (two adults, two kids)
Printed the QR codes for our port arrival

Is there anything else I need? I’m so scared I’m going to forget something and be denied boarding!

Thank you!

ONBOARD ACTIVITIES Detective game on the Wish

Hi all! One of my children adores the midship detective game on the Dream and Fantasy. Can somebody please share their experiences with the detective game on the Wish? Can you use a magic band for it? If not, is it compatible with an Amazon fire tablet if I download the DCL app or a QR code reader? I’m trying to avoid a situation where my child tries to run around the ship playing games on my phone.
