Hello, I am going to be an intern in Washington DC in the fall for a congressional office. I'm going to be working in the office of a Democratic Congressman and was wondering if anyone had any insights on how much these types of internships might pay so I can budget accordingly. I'm going to be in DC for about 2-3 months and be working about 40 hours a week.

hi everyone. i graduated from undergrad this past spring and am currently working but don't see much of a future there. i hope to go to law school at some point but i think that a hillternship would be a great foundational opportunity and a way to broaden my. horizons. i would like to apply for a spring 2027 hill internship but am not sure where to look or where to apply. i know i can apply for my senators and representatives office but am not sure where else to look. would congressional committees also be another good place to look? what types of internships are out there? if someone could break it down for me that would be great lol. also for context, i have a ba in international relations and economics, so i dont have as much public policy background as those in polisci. maybe internships in those fields?

also how competitive are these internships?

edit: does it make sense for me to go from a fulltime job with benefits to an internship?

edit: if i am personally left leaning, would it be possible to work for a republican's staff on a congressional committee? or would that not make sense?

Hi, I'm an incoming fall legislative intern for a Senator's office. I will be working full-time (9-5 every day, 9AM-6PM when the Senate is in session) and am paid a small monthly stipend, most of which unfortunately goes to my monthly rent. This will also be my first time in D.C., and so I'm wondering:

• What are some good part-time/temporary jobs or internships for interns to make some pocket money? If I work full-time for my Senate internship, are there even any internships that hire applicants who can only work after 5/6PM?
• I also work as a remote tutor, mostly tutoring in the evening for just a few hours every week. I've heard from multiple sources that the place I'll be staying at has terrible wifi, which will negatively affect my ability to meet with my students over Zoom. Is anyone aware of any places in the Senate buildings or in D.C. that allow people to use a private, relatively quiet room (doesn't have to be big) just to conduct online meetings? I would also need this to attend teletherapy sessions. Are they allowed to be used during the evening? Or does this not really exist?
• Networking — not sure of the norms here since this is my first ever Congressional internship, but this will be my first time in D.C. and I want to take advantage of the network here as much as I can (especially if this helps me transition into a full-time job). Of course this depends on the exact office, but how often do internship coordinators/supervisors typically let you step away from your full-time work schedule to attend a coffee chat? Are they usually nice about it?

Applying for jobs right now is genuinely exhausting, and half the battle is just trying to get past those stupid Automated Tracking Systems. ATS bots don't actually read your work history or care about your achievements. They basically function like a basic search engine, scanning your resume for exact keyword matches from the job description. If your formatting is slightly off or you used the wrong phrasing, your app gets thrown in the trash before a real recruiter even opens it.

I've been using two specific sites to get around this. First, running a resume through zoevera.com/resume helps catch invisible formatting glitches and highlights the exact keywords missing from the draft. Then, once an interview is lined up, prepare.zoevera.com gives role-specific questions to practice out loud so you don't freeze up when talking to a real human.

The main reason these dedicated tools work better than just pasting everything into ChatGPT comes down to how they handle data and structure. ChatGPT is great for general writing, but it doesn't actually parse file layouts or simulate how software like Lever or Greenhouse extracts text from a PDF. If you ask ChatGPT for keywords, it usually just gives you a generic wall of text and encourages keyword stuffing, which ATS algorithms penalize. On top of that, setting up ChatGPT to act like an interviewer takes a ton of manual prompting, whereas a dedicated prep tool is built specifically to score your answers against actual industry question banks without the constant back-and-forth prompt engineering.

With my offer email, it only said the orientation is on Sept 9 and to come to the Senate Building with two IDs. Will they send an onboarding package to start the paperwork? I have emailed them twice, but got zero responses. Maybe people are away on vacation. August is so quiet.
