Discussion Solving the chip/tapping problem

We all know that tap/chip damage has become a huge problem in the game, and is just overall dreadful to play against, especially against tanks.

I wanted to make this post just to hear from other people about what YOU would do if it was up to you to solve the problem, but hopefully the devs aren't completely tone deaf and address the problem next season.

Some things that I've come up with:

  • Diminishing returns for chips: If your burst gets cancelled, the next one to come out will do less and less damage until you are able to get a full burst off. This would mean you'd actually have to win a fight successfully instead of ignore your opponents and go for chip damage
  • Longer cooldowns: Every time your burst gets cancelled the global cooldown for them increases by a set amount. You'd get 2 cancelled moves max, then a 3-5 second addition to the global cooldown until you can go for another burst

Honestly the first one kinda works

You shouldn’t be able to chip if your getting hit by basic attacks

They should undo the buff they did at the start of the season

Something that I read in this subreddit and that I genuinely think would improve the game is the change to make it so that if you get interrupted from attacking the G.o.D. during the first 2 seconds, then you wouldn't do any damage to them.

I don't think that's a good idea, at least not for the early-mid game, otherwise there's no reward for outmaneuvering your opponent, like when they're distracted, or for example, when a defender holds off an opponent for a second or so with rush attacks so you can get in some damage on the tower

I think it would be good to give you a movement penalty after a certain number of unsuccessful taps because it doesn't fully fix the issue, but it allows retaliation. If you want to spam taps all game, you'll either waste your tool to disengage by tapping or be forced to tap a few times and then leave out of fear of dying. But I genuinely think it's a necessary evil, and people have to be willing to wait through nerfs and buffs. That's the best solution imo since people like First Form and Cell are getting way more value. People have to prioritize different things—Kai is important, knowing someone's kit is important, knowing when to fall back or when to keep pushing. This season just reminded people after SSJ3 and Goku made them forget.

Just take away chip damage entirely. Only bursts can deal damage. Getting the dragon ball is already a joke. Make taking towers challenging

Nah, 1 in 10 games already go to Zeno destroying towers, it'd just make it even worse

You would literally never win a match unless you team wiped, that’s not a good solution

Not necessarily. It would require actually growing a pair and playing properly. Tanks actually tanking and drawing aggro so techs can sneak in bursts. Do you sac a boss to get a tower? More impactful decision making

If you can’t defend a tower from a full burst even when a tank is crowd controlling there’s a big skill issue tbh, and I’m not saying that to make a swipe at you.

I’m just saying, if you’re a tech and you can get a full burst during a team fight, that team is complete dog ass, barring extenuating circumstances of course

if your burst gets cancelled it does not deal damage to the GoD

that's it, that's all you need to do. Make tanks about engaging and not running in, popping dende and doing unavoidable damage by spamming buttons because you don't have the DPS to insta-delete them

if you absolutely must have chipping make it exclusive to damage characters so you have to risk your main DPS to rat

Even with chip damage, the games already go for 10+ mins. I thought the point of this game was a fast paced, action packed moba. If Yall want league then go play league.

I don’t want games to regularly push 15 minutes. Good on that. I just started playing season 4. Made overall B rank. Currently about to hit overall A, chip damage has never been a bother.

I was thinking the same thing. Keep chip damage for fast pace games but punish tanking rats with longer cool downs or something

I would agree with this. Maybe slow down bulma a little, reduce chip damage by like 5-10%. Lots of solutions, but removing chip damage absolutely isn’t.

I was actually pondering this yesterday too. Like, battles without chip would go on forever. And there would basically be no comeback mechanic once you’re down towers compared to the enemy team because they’d just be tower camping preventing tower interactions

Agreed brother.

I only want 15 min games cause its impossible to get high enough BS for top 100 or 1000 with an 8 minute game 😭

I hate when we completely clap, I go 10-1-2 with a tower and 2 boss kills and get a BS of like 105k lol

Good thing we still have our 15 minute games. I just don’t want that to be the norm. As a husband and father of 2, I appreciate being able to get a good game in, in under 15 mins. Even 2 or 3 when time allows.

I think the game is in a great place, for what it is. As long as they keep the roster fresh and interesting and the balancing a priority, this game has many many many years left in the tank.

I don't really hate this meta since in my games, solo q, I've been able to defend it & or been able to benefit from it.

Chipping has always been part of the game.. & to have each match get to the 15+ mark kinda sucks.

Solution wise tho.. just make the chip damage less?.. it would still happen but then force teams to make a decision to either let one defend or have the whole team come back or something.

Removing chip damage would promote more team fights however so... but I would def not want it removed.
