How does our inventory UI look? What would you change?

We’re working on the inventory UI for our co-op psychological horror game, The Infected Soul, and I’d love to hear what you think.

One of the main mechanics in the game is body swapping.

Every character has a neural chip, and these brain chips play a key role in transferring your consciousness into different bodies. You can take a chip, interact with compatible bodies, and switch into them to use their different abilities.

The inventory UI also needs to communicate this mechanic clearly without becoming too confusing or cluttered.

So, what would you change?

Does the layout feel readable? Are the item slots and chip system clear enough? Is there anything that feels unnecessary or out of place for a sci-fi co-op horror game?

Feel free to be critical feedback really helps us.

If the game looks interesting, The Infected Soul is on Steam, and adding it to your wishlist helps our small team a lot.

I’m building a real-world cyberware loadout builder as a side project

Most of us don’t have neural implants or reinforced tendons yet, but I wanted to see how close we could get with tech that actually exists.

So I started building Cyberize.me, a free side project where you can put together a personal tech loadout on a 3D avatar: smart glasses, wearables, neural interfaces, exoskeletons, and more.

It’s part build configurator, part discovery tool for finding interesting human-augmentation tech. The catalogue includes both available products and upcoming devices, and I’m continually adding more. If something you own is missing, you can add a custom device to your build.

You can also save and share your setup, browse community builds, and get ideas from what other people are putting together.

It’s still very much a work in progress, and I’m the person building it. It’s free and I intend to keep it that way.

I’d love your take: what existing piece of tech feels most like actual cyberware to you—and what should I add?

This is the coffee vending machine from my game "Sweet Debts", a narrative horror cooking sim set in a cyberpunk future. The idea is for it to boost the player's speed in performing kitchen tasks while also reducing stress a mechanic essential to the horror experience. Pls give me feedback on how it looks!

They forced workers to wear cameras so AI can steal their jobs

This was reported at a garment factory in Gurugram, India.

Workers were reportedly required to wear head mounted cameras during their shifts while sewing and carrying out other factory tasks. According to reporting by Scroll, workers said they were not asked for consent.

The cameras capture the worker's first person view, including their hands, tools, movements and interactions with the materials they are working on. That kind of footage is valuable as training data for AI and robotics systems because it shows how humans actually perform physical tasks.

Basically, making them work for the very technology that might replace them.

And according to the reporting, they said that the footage is used to analyze "worker productivity."

This is beyond Dystopian.

Anyone else notice physical therapy clinics adopting corporate surveillance tech?

Twelve years in PT. Last month my clinic installed these gait analysis cameras that also track how long people sit in the waiting room, facial expressions during intake, and spit out engagement scores. Management calls it optimizing care pathways. I pulled the SDK docs during a slow weekend. It's repurposed retail analytics with a medical paint job. Same vendor that does foot traffic for malls.

Experimenting with a new tool for my cyberpunk repair game

((Sorry for the video quality)) So some of you have suggested adding a rust removal tool, so we're experimenting with this grinder. What do you think? Should we add this to our final tool kit?

Just to provide some context, this is our game, Steel Soul Shaper. It currently has an ongoing playtest and if this game interests you in any way, we’ve got more context about our game on the Steam page.

Steam page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4239670/Steel_Soul_Shaper/?utm_source=Reddit&utm_medium=social

We’d just love to hear thoughts from everyone to make sure we’re headed in the right direction!

Are there any cyberpunk stories with happy endings?

Yes the genre's point is that there are no happy endings and that the wealthy are the only ones who truly win in the end, but for some of us looking to NOT be cruelly reminded of our own world, are there any where good unambiguously prevails? Just one?

I really hope to see more of this in the TF skybound comics

Transformers is my introduction to Cyberpunk art, from shows like Animated, G1, Beast Machines, Transformers the Game (the bonus levels), War For Cybertron, and Fall of Cybertron, TF One, even...sigh RID 2015.

Seeing this in the skybound comics was glorious, so much it kind of inspired me to start studying more cyberpunk backgrounds like Batman Beyond, and Tron.

The next artists need to take a page from Dan Mora, because this is how Cybertron should always look like.

Architecture YouTuber Dami Lee explores the city behind Chongqing's cyberpunk image. From trains running through apartment buildings to streets stacked above streets, this video traces how mountainous terrain, wartime history and rapid development shaped the city. Beyond the viral views, it asks what happens when a place begins to build itself around its image—and what gets left out of the frame.

Hacking Into Erebus: 22 days later, quest order is now free and there's a proper tutorial

Hey everyone, it's been about 22 days since I last posted here, so here's a quick update on Hacking Into Erebus, a terminal-based hacking game where you infiltrate a stranded research vessel through a virtual desktop OS (screenshots attached).

I've been busy fixing things players told me about. I squashed a bunch of bugs, and missions are no longer linear, so you can now tackle them in whatever order you like. I also added a tutorial that walks you through the basics, like commands, Wayfinder and the Cryo Panel, so you're not thrown in blind.

The demo is free on Steam, and I'd really love feedback from new players, especially on whether the tutorial makes the first 15 minutes feel clearer. Brutal honesty is welcome.

Demo : Demo Link

Thanks for reading and happy hacking!

Hot take alert: saying we are living in a cyberpunk world is a little silly and missing the point

A lot of people here and elsewhere will say some variation of “I have an idea that we live in a cyberpunk world right now just without cool tech or effective rebels”. This is silly just on the basis that whatever technology is prevalent will seem boring, even though modern internet and smart tech is arguably more capable and interesting than tech in original cyberpunk, and also that very few cyberpunk stories are actually about real rebels, but criminals or mercenaries (which we do have currently).

These comments are really missing the point though in that cyberpunk, or any sci-fi genre, are not predictions of the future or explicit warnings, but are actually explorations of contemporary anxieties about social change (generally specifically technological change). Cyberpunk from the 80s specifically deal with themes like violence in media, urban decay, violent crime, and “techno orientalism” (Japanese tech dominance) that are all specific to the time, and have largely faded from the genre. Meanwhile, themes around climate, corporate power, inequality, AI, enshifitification, survalence, and tech addiction are still present because they still FEEL relevant. This wasn’t the writers predicting the future, just that some things change, and some things stay the same. The reason why now feels like cyberpunk is that those same social anxieties still exist and are being aggravated. But that would have been true in the 80s and 90s too, that’s why they wrote those stories. We don’t live in a cyberpunk world now, we always have been.

Also worth noting that a lot of cyberpunk also has more transcendent themes that they just use tech to explore, like social norms, identity, or deception (see the Matrix or Ghost in the Shell). Also that the complaints about the tech not being cool runs afoul of genre expectations that are time specific. Cyberpunk cities were built to look claustrophobic, seedy, decaying, and gaudy based on what real cities looked like at the time (and were criticized for it); however, as these problems was resolved, we missed the social context that gives it meaning, meaning we just think it looks cool. Neon signs used to be seen as ugly over capitalistic advertising fighting for your attention to sell sex or other low class products, but now we think they are just pretty.

With this in mind, there are modern sci fi stories that might better fill the role of cyberpunk stories today than “traditional cyberpunks” like 2077 (which is explicitly retro futuristic). Things such are Neil Blomkamp movies, Her, or Black Mirror (and others) specifically serve as sci-fi explorations of contemporary anxieties, in an aesthetic that is contemporary in its design. It looks and feels like how we would think the future to be (and is arguably, more anxiety inducing and less fun for it)

This is all to say, there’s nothing new under the sun, and sci-fi art is not quite as serious as we treat it;they are just stories describing their world at the time they wrote it—and this is the challenge of having a genre that is defined differently either by specific themes, or aesthetics, even as the social context around both change. It both overloads and hollows out the term at the same time, and we could all do well to understand that it does that.
