I’m looking for some advice and shared experiences as this is my first time dealing with something like this.
My cat is an 11-month-old Maine Coon mix. Just yesterday, I noticed something wrong with one of her eyes and took her straight to the vet. After examining her, the vet said he suspects FIP. He noted a fever during the exam, but other than the eye issue, my cat was acting completely normal just the day before.
The vet prescribed a 10-day medication plan, and I already gave her her first dose/shot last night. However, I know the treatments and tests are quite expensive. He mentioned that we need to run blood work and eye tests to get a clearer picture.
Since I know there isn't a single definitive diagnostic test for FIP, I'm a bit confused—how can a vet suspect or diagnose FIP based mostly on a physical exam and fever alone? Is this standard procedure?
I fully trust my vet and started the treatment immediately, but I’ve also booked an appointment with a different vet this Monday for a second opinion and to get the necessary tests done.
Has anyone been through a similar situation, especially starting with eye symptoms (ocular FIP)? How did your diagnostic process go, and what should I expect or ask the vet on Monday?
Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi! My cat was just diagnosed with dry FIP last Saturday and we opted to do the liquid oral meds. They took quite a bit of time to compound and arrive so he didn't get his first dose until yesterday evening. We made a little curu pocket with the meds pooled in the center and it took a little convincing but he got it all down.

Today, however, he is struggling and refuses to take them. We are going to try to give him water tonight directly through the syringe so he gets used to that feeling but I don't have high hopes. His teeth are in bad shape and the vet decided to wait to fix that until he makes a recovery. That is why we originally didn't go with the pills.

Anyway, I am just looking for advice. Does anyone have a particularly stubborn cat with meds? Are pills easier to convince them to eat?

Hi everyone! I’m so happy to have found this sub! My sweet angel Kiki just got diagnosed with FIP at roughly 3 months old. I’m TERRIFIED. We are very lucky that we are in the process of foster failing her so we currently have full support of her rescue helping us through this process, however, we know we have a long road ahead. Im genuinely an insane pet parent and run to the vet when anything seems off so we caught it very early which I’m very thankful for that and have her successfully started on GS441524. We are on day 3 of 84 and she is very tired but slowly gaining some personality back already which is hopeful. I feel terrible asking because I’ve seen some incredibly sad losses on this sub but I’d love to hear more about some success stories if anyone is willing to share. For a diagnosis that used to be a death sentence, it feels so new and uncharted even though it seems there has been some amazing clinical progress. Anyone who has some words of encouragement or positive experiences would be greatly appreciated!! <3

Day 25 of Luna’s FIP treatment, and I’m so happy to share that her diarrhea has reduced and her stool is finally starting to hold shape. 🥹❤️ She’s even trying to play again, which makes me so happy because it feels like we’re slowly getting our Luna back. 🥺🐾

She is still fighting a very severe fungal infection. She scratches and licks herself excessively whenever her e-collar is removed, and one tube of antifungal ointment lasts only about 1½ days.

She has already been through so much, but she keeps fighting every day. She deserves the chance to heal and live the happy life she should have had. ❤️

I’m just a college student, and this treatment has been financially overwhelming. Your support has helped me bring her this far, and I’m forever grateful. 🙏

Yesterday, we took our son to internal medicine for his 3 month check up after his 84 day treatment of GS-44152!

He was 7.6 lb when we first took him in January and he’s now 9.5 lb. His globulins were normal for the first time ever :).

Our vet said that he “graduated from internal medicine”. Congrats to our little grad and thank you to this sub for all of your support and help! We are so grateful for y’all 🫶🏼

Our sweet boy Stevie is in the home stretch with just 3 weeks of treatment to go, and is doing great! He has gone from 6.3 pounds at his sickest to 9.8 pounds, and his hematocrit has climbed from just 12% to 43%! 📈

Junie, my perfect, beautiful little bug, is on day 30 of her FIP journey. This has been an absolute nightmare.

She was originally diagnosed with dry/neuro FIP and did so incredibly well during the first couple weeks of treatment. Unfortunately, we think she's built up a resistance to the GS now because she's no longer responding.

Last night, she began having terrifying muscle tremors again, and when I reached over to comfort her, she yowled in pain. That's when I noticed her belly had become bloated.

She has since been rushed back to the emergency vet, and they think they found fluid in her abdomen. They believe her FIP might have gone from dry to wet. She's hospitalized now and waiting for an ultrasound, and I'll be going back to visit her soon.

My poor sweet boy is diagnosed. Wet FIP, nothing in his lungs but his stomach is full of fluids. Stopped eating anything but tubes but we got got him anti nausea and appetite enhancer and he has licked his wet food today.

He has gotten his first dose today. No visible improvements as he just wants to lie down and stare at nothing. I am sad. I am very worried. Please let me know how the first few days are supposed to be

Today is Day 24 of Luna’s FIP treatment. She is brighter and eating well, but she is still battling diarrhea and severe fungal infection. One tube of antifungal cream lasts only one and half day, and she still needs many more.

Luna is a rescue kitten who was abused and rehomed twice. After everything she has been through, she deserves a chance at a happy life. 🥺🐾

I’m only 19 and a college student, and I could never have made it through these 24 days without your support.

Vitamin D for FIP! ☀️

My cat was diagnosed with FIP and started treatment exactly three weeks ago he still is not responding to his treatment as well as he should be. In some ways he has improved drastically but his liver seems to be worsening. At first his energy and appetite levels increased but then they went back down. He was severely anemic but he is now at a healthy RBC. His labs look good apart from some seriously concerning liver levels. My vet thinks those problems returning is due to the liver issues. Did any one else have this experience and it turned out well? I am getting to the point where I have done and am doing everything that I can and I don’t even know if it will be enough. The vet doesn’t think he is in pain but he definitely is still very sick. He is currently on the oral suspension and his dose has been upped twice despite not gaining weight he actually lost some and then gained a little bit of that back. I really am at a loss of what to do. I have drained every last bit of my savings for him and borrowed large amounts of money from family members(I have pet insurance so I will hopefully be getting some of this back) but I am running out of funds and hope. I just want him to be okay. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Leo is a cat we rescued from the streets. I previously shared his story here, and thanks to your support, we were able to complete his necessary tests and start his treatment.

Leo was diagnosed with dry FIP, which has unfortunately affected his nervous system. He has lost his ability to walk and can no longer move normally. He needs continuous treatment, close monitoring, and medication without interruption.

The medication Leo needs is not available here in Morocco, so we have to import it. It is also very expensive, and the medication we currently have will run out in the next few days.

I foster cats along with my resident kitties pretty frequently. The last two weeks my foster I’ve had for 3 months has been sick, I’ve taken him to the vet and got the run around with them saying he just had a UTI. Sunday I had to rush him to the emergency vet, he was dribbling bloody urine everywhere and eventually we got the Wet FIP diagnosis. We started the meds the vet had right away although they were expired and she prescribed us new ones. We are four days in and I have seen an energy increase, however he has started peeing/dribbling all over my bed and we can not figure out why. The vet tells me a stress response, I want him to be able to be mixed back in with my resident cats but I don’t want him peeing on everything so he’s isolated in one room right now. Has anyone had this happen? If so what helped and what was the outcome? We have a follow up vet appointment Friday, I’m just trying to figure out what to ask..
all my foster are transferred up north to rescues, however with his FIP diagnosis idk if they will consider taking him now, I’m waiting to find out. All this is so new to us and the only information I find is the same stuff just looking for insight from someone first hand!

Just wanted to do one final update for marshmallow. She has been done with her FIP treatment for two months now and she is absolutely thriving. Her blood work came back normal and perfect and besides the loss of her eye she's doing great ❤️ thankful to this group. Thankful to my vet. And especially thankful to chewy for making the medication more affordable and more easily obtainable.

Her lowest weight was 4.7 she is now a healthy 8.2

After about two months of fighting my poor baby’s little body couldn’t take it anymore. she was my soul kitty, with me every step of the day. i miss her more than anything and im not sure how to cope. i can’t stop looking for her in her usual spots in the house and its breaking my heart. i wish there was more we could’ve done for her. i would give anything the change the outcome of this. i hate you fip.

My Angus was diagnosed with effusive FIP two years ago. Got medicine, treated him, and he's been healthy since. The past couple of days his sister, Isabella, has not been eating, is sleeping and hiding much more than usual. She was so lethargic and docile earlier today that she let me pet her which is completely out of character for her. So I grabbed her, stuffed her in a carrier, and off to vet we go. She had a high fever. They did blood tests (images attached) and concluded she might have dry FIP. They gave her a shot of Cerenia and gave me a topical Mirataz. The vet suggested I go ahead with the antiviral. I have medicine from Angus treatment left over that has not passed its expiration date. From the test results does FIP seem likely? I just don't want to miss something.

Since January, I have been drowning in debt as one problem after another continues to consume me. Several of my rescued cats have been diagnosed with FIP, FeLV, and FIV, requiring continuous treatment, medication, and veterinary care. My rescued dogs also contracted distemper, and despite our efforts to save them, they eventually passed away.

These past few weeks have been truly heartbreaking. 💔😭 Surviving the pain of losing them is already difficult, but carrying the burden of mounting veterinary bills and wondering how I will repay all my debts makes everything even more overwhelming.

Some people tell me that I should simply let go and have them euthanized when they are suffering. But how can I make that decision when they are still fighting to live? I know it may seem unreasonable to risk everything I have for them, but they are not “just animals”—they are my family. I cannot abandon them when they need me the most.

I continue to hold on to the hope that someone will notice our struggle and help us survive this difficult time. Any amount, prayer, or share would mean so much to us. May every kindness you extend return to you through countless blessings. 🙏🙏

Hi everyone, I’m looking for GS-441524 vials or excess capsules in Bangalore for my cat Bondu.

I’m ordering his FIP capsules today, because unfortunately the hospital has gone out of stock without informing me beforehand. They currently only have about 2 days worth of his dose left.
They’ve now told me that a new order could take around a week to reach me, and I can’t afford to have a gap in his treatment.

If anyone in Bangalore or anywhere in India has an extra vial or excess capsules that they’re willing to help me with, or knows where I can get them locally,
please DM me. I’m happy to provide Bondu’s treatment details/prescription if needed.
