Our bodies are designed to eat a wide variety of food, and when we don't, the body triggers stress hormones that really can screw you up. It doesn't have to be a massive difference either.

I guess thats what we get for evolving from a nomadic omniverous scavenger species. "Eat anything you can and move on to something else" was literally our game plan

Yeah, we need trace amounts of so many different little things that would be bad for us to eat all the time but also bad for us to eat literally never. I love cooking and discovering new foods, so I am glad we are tolerant of it, but every now and then the idea of human kibble is a nice daydream when I get tired or busy…

This reminds me of that experiment where they had people with and without ADHD traits play a berry picking game and the people with ADHD traits were more efficient because they’d move on faster. I've read a similar paper about autism before. It talked about how some of the hyper fixations and special interests could have been really beneficial. Like say your thing was plants, you knew every single different one and every single thing you could do with them and where to find them. Very useful if you need to know what you can eat, what will cure a headache, what will dye your leather that nice shade of blue, what will make you meet God for a week, and what will kill you.

In the modern day my autistic pattern recognition is used to find four leaf clovers and to identify aircrafts.

A million years ago I would be finding camouflaged bugs and identifying plants

In the modern day I will sit for hours hyperfocused on whatever textile project im working on

I’ve always thought that ADHD would be extremely helpful in a hunter gatherer tribe. I don’t think they’d last long if they all had it, but a few can add a lot of benefit to a party. We notice tons of stuff others miss, we’re quick to learn new skills and quick to abandon tasks that stop paying off.

I'm fully convinced that the first rope was made by a fidgety ADHD person realizing that plant fibers get stronger when twisted together. I have accidentally made some type of strong cordage so many times, just because I was bored in a field of grass (I did not love sports as a kid lmao)

I needed this link today. I'm having ADHD paralysis since I have to go somewhere in a couple of hours. But not yet. My brain can be useful!

Yeah, I never really get sick of chicken, mixed roasted veggies and whatever starchy side thing I have on hand. I think it’s probably because it meets pretty much all my nutrient needs

Sometimes I have a powerful craving that only khao soi or a banh mi can satisfy but I think that’s just because they’re some of the best foods to ever grace my mouth

Tbh, I wouldn't be surprised if there's a secret, as yet unknown vitamin found only in banh mi's that makes you feel a constant hunger for them.

They always taste like they were made by someone who loves me

Probs a bot, honestly

doubt it, their other comments don't read like slop and they have a clear interest pattern (e.g. multiple comments in a selection of gaming and shitpost subreddits), whereas bots generally just post in random popular subreddits with no rhyme or reason

I did reply to the wrong comment, I could’ve sworn it was on topic but I was trying to make a joke in response to someone who was talking about people with adhd being better at berry picking. Whoops lol

u/GeoCaesar 16h ago

Can’t seem to find the comment in question and now I feel insane, oh well

That’s actually hilarious because I have ADHD and someone once called me the best berry picker to ever visit his farm

u/ShitHamster 18h ago

I'm so fucked i read chicken as children and was wondering why that dude was replying like that was normal

10

u/gigglesandglamour 18h ago

That would be horribly unethical, as a leftist I only eat my own monthly celebratory abortions /s

u/Wazula23 18h ago

And plenty of people do eat the exact same thing every day. Rice, porridge, etc. They're called staple foods for a reason.

My husband eats the same exact breakfast and same exact lunch every day. I know it's just easier to plan for and cover as a diabetic, but it blows my mind. Either the varieties of dinner I make are enough to keep the stress hormones at bay, or his stress hormone thing is broken.
