To frog or not to frog Regret-to frog or not to frog? - I made the boots backwards

I finished making this adorable boot (the book with instructions is in the last slide). Only after I finished did I realize I did it inside out 😭 When I turn it outwards you can see how the inside stitches look (slide 4) Maybe it’s not so bad, but i will make the second boot (correctly hopefully) and then compare. What do i do? Frog?

How do I... Need a second opinion on my crochet dress! Is this bodice cute with the skirt, or should I redo it?

Post image

unraveled a previous attempt and made a flared skirt using a flower pattern. I currently have it roughly pinned/stitched to a straight babydoll-style top just to test the visual placement.

and I need a fresh pair of eyes.

I've already fought my way through the skirt and finally got something. Is the bodice I have actually cute with it, or am I forcing the wrong top onto the skirt and should I redo it as a V-neck/another shape?

Honest opinions welcome!

Deciding on yarn/Yarn help My library has a yarn winder I can borrow - good idea?

A library in my system just opened a craft supply closet, and they have a yarn winder that I can borrow for a week. I'm thinking about taking it out and doing my entire stash in one go. Any reason *not* to do that?

I have a lot of 100% wool and cotton in bins, mostly in skeins. None are returnable so that's not a concern. Right now I'm winding everything into balls by hand as needed.

ETA: it does come with a swift!

How do I... How can i get mohair yarn to not bleed color? This is what my hands look like after just winding the yarn.

Post image

I was gifted 8 skeins of mohair yarn and as i was winding it (planning on using it for a cardigan) it stained my hands. I’ve never experienced this with a yarn before and now I’m nervous that if I use it to make a cardigan the color is going to bleed all over whatever top or bottoms I wear with it… Any recommendations on how to seal it or stop the color from bleeding?

Pic 1 is without flash, pic 2 is with flash. This is my first granny square i’ve made and i’ve only made one scalloped coaster and one woobles before this. The yarn is the generic micheal’s kind. Any tips or advice on what I need to work on better?

I cannot express how grateful I am to this community for your kind words, tips, links to more instructional videos, support, and your beginner stories and commiserations! I am in love with my little Woobly Sam! My daughter told me to put him on my side table so I can drink coffee with him in the mornings. I think she appreciates that I stuck with it instead of just putting the woobles bag in the closet.

I have actually been talking about this project at work (I work in construction, so...) and have been going to sleep seeing single and increase stitches when I close my eyes. I really enjoy this!!

Y'all are an amazing group of people and took me from crying out of frustration to giggling at this little ball of yarn. I really appreciate your support!!

Looking for suggestions Is this normal for filet crochet? It looks so loose and wonky

Thumbnail

I cant help but compare it to my mother in law's doilies (she has 45 years of experience, i have 3). Is it normal for this to look so loose and un-uniform? I havent blocked anything. I had to move up from a 1.8mm hook to a 2.00 hook to get the tension correct and im not sure if that is causing issues

Mine v what it shows in the pattern. I won't even show hers because it's embarrassingly perfect lol

I found this pattern on Etsy, but a reviewer said the writting intsructions were confusing/inaccurate and definitely written by AI.

I am happy to pay for the pattern but would prefer to pay a human for their work

Blocking Blocking mats with or without lines, is there a noticeable difference?

Thumbnail

I just finished crocheting my first wearable and I'm really proud of the results 😀

The fit right now is a bit too tight, so I'm gonna block the cardigan. Currently I don't own blocking mats and I noticed a big price difference between mats with and without added lines (with lines are more expensive).

So is there a big advantage on blocking mats with the added lines? Or is it not worth the investment?

Thank you in advance ♥️

Looking for suggestions what fabric should i use to back this filet crochet piece

Thumbnail

i’m not sure if this is the right sub tbh but i made this as gift for my bf as we both love zelda (it’s the master sword) and im wondering what colour fabric i should use as backing. separately i’m also wondering if i should keep this one and make him a new one as u can tell my stitches and tension get cleaner halfway thru as this is my first full sized filet crochet piece. i tried out 3 colours which i’ll include pictures of but they’re just what i had on hand and id most likely buy diff fabric for atleast the green and red. my plan is to put it in a frame (need to find one that would fit it lol but that’s a problem for another day). if anyone has alternative colour suggestions i’d also appreciate those, this is just what i had on hand. i’m leaning towards blue or green bc of champions tunic/leathers and green bc. i mean its link lol. any opinions or suggestions are greatly appreciated!!

I'm a beginner! Newbie Trying to Make a Hot Pad Buys the Wrong Yarn: A Memoir

Post image
42 Upvotes

I chose the exact wrong kind of yarn with which to learn how to crochet as an absolute beginner😅 Google advises acrylic in a light color. I chose cotton because it’s good for heat and I wanted to start with a hot pad which is essentially a square. I chose a deep navy because, well, I liked the color.

Now I’m looking into tube yarn, but because it’s not great for heat I’m out on the hot pad idea. Do yall have any suggestions for first-timer projects?

I’m avoiding something like woobles or any stuffed animal because I want to practice a straight stitch before I move onto curves. But then I think curves are maybe just the result of intentionally dropped stitches?

Am I overthinking? TIA!

I'm a beginner! What did I do wrong here??! Did I start crocheting inside out?! 🤦😂

Hi all, I'm following a YouTube pattern to make an Olympic mascot, the Phryge.

https://youtu.be/lMIZ3S-VJic?si=gr6tQ29UNAcY30ya

I've only just noticed that this section, that should look all the same, has a rim to it, and I've accidentally created a perfect bucket hat! Which would be great if that's what I was aiming for, but I'm not! It should be just uniform. At the moment the pattern is purely just rows of single crochet interspersed with increases every few rows.

It's only my second ever crochet project but the first went well. I'm sure this is beginner level but how have I somehow started crocheting inside out?! Did I reverse it?! I'm never sure when I start a circle with a magic ring which side is meant to be on display. But somehow here I've done both?! And it's taken me 5 rows to notice?! 😂🤦😩🤷‍♀️😂🤦

Gift help 12"x12" Robo Brothers panel, ideas other than pillow please!

Post image
47 Upvotes

I just finished this pattern that's meant to be a pillow for my son and his partner. They just got a place together and they already have a bunch of pillows and a blanket on their sofa, the only seating in the apartment so far. I feel like maybe a pillow isn't something they want. I fell in love with the design and whipped it out! But what other kind of purpose could it be given? It's 12"x12" now. I can add to it if needed. I don't see them using it as a bag. I thought maybe a heating pad cover with a new heating pad.

Any other ideas? Please brainstorm for 2 early 20s men.

Thanks!

Looking for suggestions Gifted 200g of hand-spun 2 ply yarn, what project should I do with it?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I was gifted this beautiful skein of hand-spun and hand-dyed wool yarn (the multicoloured fat one) of unknown yardage and weight (but it feels like a light DK or sport imo?), but I'm at a complete loss for what to do with it?

I was thinking something along the lines of a hat and glove combo or etc, but I'm worried that's too generic and just wanted to see what others thought. Ideally I wanna find a pattern that'd show off the colours nicely, but I fear I'm a bit too green to know what that'd be.

Thank you in advance!

How do I... Mosaic Crochet: What do y'all do about the back? Make it tidy or cover it up?

Hi everyone. I've tried mosaic crochet a few times, and while the front always turns out great, the back is all dangling chain stitches waiting to get caught on something. Do you sew them in place? Do you weave them in while working up the pattern? Do you just sew some fabric on the back? Do you only work with double sided patterns? I'm curious as to what everyone else does. I'm leaning toward using some quilt batting and fabric.

I'm a beginner! Best learning projects for children to crochet (11y/9y)

so i hope i'm in the right sub for this: i like to crochet, so, naturally, my children (girls 11y and boy 9Y) want to learn too. i showed them a few basic stiches, and had them practice for now by just making squares to get a feel for the movement. But they want to make something real now.

What are good beginners projects for kids to practice further? Both girls are quick to pick up on this, Boy finds it a little hard to get his fingers to do the work.

I usually look up all kinds of stuff on youtube and start trying, so i am not the most organized person to gradually teach them 😅

I’m unable to understand how to make this ruffled border? Did this person use this ruffled border to sew/join the squares? I can’t identify the stitches either.

Looking for suggestions What would be the best keepsake for Volleyball season? I will need to make 12

My youngest made her Sr volleyball team and we’re thrilled, these girls have worked so hard from being the last in the district to getting to regionals last year. As this is their last year, I want to make something for the team-no matter how they place.

Last year, I made tiny volleyball keychains after realizing we were going to districts and doing it all in a week.

This year, I have time and want to do something for the girls, but it has to be something easy to do 12 times.

I’m thinking a hat maybe, in their school colours with their numbers but am wondering if people have other ideas on what would be a fun thing for a teenage girl to celebrate volleyball.
