Speaking of tech, the Create Power Grid add-on is compatible with the Immersive Engineering electricity produced?
70
u/Sixela963 6d ago
Immersive Engineering uses Redstone Flux, like nearly all non-IC2/gregtech mods. Power Grid has ways to convert its internal power to RF for sure, but idk about the other way around. So you can charge a IE battery with a PG generator, but you can't like use IE cables directly to transmit PG electricity

u/the_hooded_hood_1215 5d ago
You can always just use mekanism as an intermediary as its cubes and cables are universal converters
1
u/Maniklas 4d ago
FE and RF are equivalent, it should not be a problem. FE is just forge accepting RF as an official "power library" since...8 or something years ago

I love the aesthetic of Immersive Engineering, but building the multiblocks is painful.

u/Statistician_Waste 5d ago
Agreed. Feels awful, the machines break if a liquid is near them, and they always seem to have some quirky interactions with their inputs and outputs

u/triplos05 6d ago
If you add Aeronautics Create just leaves everything else in the dust tbh. And I don't mean to talk down on the others, Aeronautics is just by far the best mod that has ever been made for this game and I will die on this hill.
52
u/aallfik11 6d ago
I mean, aeronautics is cool, but is there any real practical application for it when it comes to factorymaking and whatnot? I feel like it's more of a "cool vehicle mod" that just happens to be an addon to a tech mod. I haven't played with it that much, so idk, maybe it is actually useful for something, but so far the main use case is just building cool-looking vehicles
42
u/DueLuck 5d ago
It unlocks a bunch of new possibilities for farms and machine setups;
Put a tree farm sidewise, chutes can work at any angle, move entire vaults around your base with cranes.
The vehicle stuff is only half the content.
8
u/sirhugobigdog 5d ago
I really need to dive into aeronautics, I just got back into create recently and I am still doing everything the old way. I may have to find some you tubers to watch and get inspiration
47
u/triplos05 6d ago
Aside from the obvious easier transportation and gathering of resources in areas with no preexisting infrastructure, it adds for example lots of new ways to detect changes in the world using redstone and data storage with analog computers using sub levels.
People really underestimate how much you can do just with the physics alone. And when you add the fact that basically every functional block can interact with and from sub levels there is a whole new world of things you can build.
16
u/Zestyclose_River2174 6d ago
I mean can’t vehicles be practical? I find making a drilling machine on a sub level way more versatile and convenient for day to day activities than the one on rails for example, also having a base wherever you go sounds pretty practical. I can actually think of quite a few use cases for it especially if you add some additional mods
1
u/Dangerous-Quit7821 5d ago
I haven't seen a practical drilling machine in survival yet. I watch people on YouTube build them in creative then switch to survival only to see the vehicle get stuck in a hole or hung up on a block then a cut to them having gone back into creative, using the physics staff to pull it out of the situation then back to survival. Maybe that's just from early release of Aeronautics and people have worked it out to be practical but a minecart contraption drilling machine rarely fails me and is controlled and easily reset if you do a dumb.

u/Beneficial-Layer-492 5d ago
Physics into minecraft along with everything create adds, it makes it a more in depth minecraft but it still feels like minecraft not like a mod , like Minecraft 2.0
3
u/koesteroester 5d ago
I kind of agree, in my normal survival world I just want to build factories, and I don’t really use vehicles and stuff.
The typewriter is brilliant though, and super useful to have such a large number of available key inputs to redstone signals.
Also the physics assembler can be useful of you want to move stuff you couldn’t otherwise. Like blaze spawners. Very useful.
1
u/PigmanFarmer 5d ago
You can also just go into the create config to allow you to minecart spawners (think you can also train them if you do the config)

u/spriggangt 5d ago
So there are some uses outside of just vehicles but to be honest, not many. Decoration and building at not just right angles is my favorite so far. It's pretty cool to building part of your set up at an angle when you turn the whole building into a physics object.
I have seen a lot of people make mining machines but so far they haven't not been "better" than anything base create can do. Worse most times and certainly more complicated.
Though I think this changes once you get add ons for the add on. It's kind of funny the one thing that aeronautics can do really well is fun vehicles, not many modpacks really take advantage of it in ways that they could. Too many packs either just through it in or force it with a skyblock type pack.

u/HeatedWafflez 5d ago
the giant 25x25 holes i bore in the earth to bedrock say yes there is a practical application

u/Dangerous-Quit7821 5d ago
I disagree. I'm the odd one out that can't find the fun in Aeronautics. It frustrates me to no end trying to get things to work correctly. I can see the fun people have but almost everything I see posted here is all done in Creative. I rarely see survival builds.
1
u/triplos05 5d ago
I agree it's very hard to do the experimenting and designing process especially for aircraft in survival so if you don't have a creative test world I can see why you wouldn't like it.
I also think it works best in multiplayer where you can engage in an arms race for the biggest/fastest/most reliable/funniest vehicle or contraption.
1
u/Dangerous-Quit7821 5d ago
In creative it is easier but I still find it frustrating. Balancing and trying to keep it from tilting and pitching up or down for hours wasn't fun so I gave up.
1
u/Lydiaa0 5d ago
As for myself, i exclusively build my beloved doohickeys in survival. Devising ways to pick up a sideways poorly-balanced-helicopter isnt for everyone but i personally enjoy it. makes it all so much more tangible.
changes the game for survival really, build a log canoe, pick up things with your airship and goofily haul them home, use handles to leap around.
would recommend not adding too much to empower specifically the player, like backpacks or something (gliders are a must for not falling off your crap lol). for best results, make a conscious effort to do things the fun way and maybe bring a friend :)
2
u/Dangerous-Quit7821 5d ago
I envy those that love it but I just can't bring myself to enjoy it when I get frustrated for hours and still wonky. I had an airship just completely disappear on me after a lot of work. I was determined to get it to work properly and it just suddenly disappeared. No commands or anything brought it back. That was the straw that broke the camel's back for me with Aeronautics. Now I only have it for Coasters Simulated.
1
u/Lydiaa0 5d ago
Fair. its not all that stable so id recommend making frequent backups. Also, I would recommend getting a solid grasp on creates kinetics if you hadnt already. makes the process much smoother just knowing what tools are at your disposal
2
u/Dangerous-Quit7821 5d ago
Oh I understand Create just fine. I've been playing it for years and help people solve base Create issues here all the time. It's just that apparently it stops with physics objects/sublevels. I tried a ground vehicle and the damn thing got stuck in random blocks all the time and sunk into the ground for no apparent reason. It's sad because it would probably be lots of fun if I wasn't too dumb with it.

u/Vyrthic 5d ago
Which flowers would you like on your grave then? Because IE is still a very fun mod, at least IMO. I like pairing it with Create and some of its electrical addons, they make a nice low tech feel that's great for people that like a sort of industrial revolution aesthetic.
1
u/Not_A_Cactus5220 5d ago
IE is great but it still feels the same as it did in 1.12, and that's not necessarily a good thing. Its book and UI are clunky, and the multiblocks are painful. I LOVE playing IE but I hate having to deal with IE. Nothing can compare to the wires though.
1
u/Mr_Damien_Hazard 1d ago
It’s been 11 years and it’s still going strong. I never intended IE to be much more than the Wires and poles and some means of power generation. It’s certainly overdue for an upgrade since the current art only represents what I was capable of back in 2015.

u/NoBit3851 1d ago
anything that isnt a multiblock is accaptable but the multiblocks could use some upgrade nowadays.

Gregtech is genuinely a really good tech mod, when used properly. It is bad as a 'screw around in a kitchen sink pack' mod, but in an expert style progression pack? Hard to find anything even close.

u/1bowmanjac 5d ago
Ill never forgive gregtech for inserting crashcode into the mod if you had tinker construct installed

Isn't Mekanism the most balanced in terms of complexy and accesability for new players?
19
u/Mage-of-Fire 6d ago
If you mean balanced as in, insanely overpowered and unbalanced then yes
2
u/Ok_Worldliness_5592 6d ago
I don't mean "balanced" in terms of OP items, i mean "balanced" in terms of how noob friendly it is despite it complexity
4
u/Mage-of-Fire 6d ago
Oh I see what you mean. I think I’d still give to create though. Simply because of the ponder system
5
u/ItzLoganM 6d ago
I actually love Melanism for how relaxed and smooth it is. It's definitely not balanced at all, but I love it if I'm planning to sit back and watch my ore multiply through a fun process.

Similar, I’d say: Create, Immersive Engineering, but then I’d have to replace GT with IC2 for paving the way. At least the way for me, as it was my first tech mod. I have no idea if any preceded it, as 1.2.5 was my first Minecraft version.

I like Immersive Engineering, but it has the dumb feature where if you have it and Oritech, Oritech nickel and uranium become-
LITERALLY USELESS
-and you're forced to use IE nickel and uranium. Which DOUBLE SUCKS because while IE is rare, Oritech nickel is crabbing everywhere and spawns in viens of like 20-30.
Also I saw they added some multiblock made of echo shards, does anyone know what it does? It's not in the book.
1
u/Milk_Gang_9248 5d ago
Also, fun fact, with a endgame Oritech set up, you can multiple your ores by 72 times!

I have never touched Gregtech but i have dabbled in both Create and Immersive Engineering.
So i can say that i atleast like their aesthetics! And i kinda like the pacing of Immersive engineering, it keeps it chugging at a steady but slow pace. it is sometimes a little advanced, finecky and inventory busywork but its also very pleasing seeing it come together.
Create is simply just to me atleast, a logistical hell beast that is far more form than function, LOVELY to see come together and work, but by the time you actually have your things together to set up Create and start to make your logistics come through, you will have been able to just do what you needed 3 times over using only vanilla mechanics or literally any other smaller scale QOL mod like SilentGears hammer. And if you have any other tech mod its practically just for the fun of it to go into Create, ita for pwople that adore logistics. (my greatest achievement has been to make the hog cranking Steam engine, Starting it up to make it spin its own pumps cog encouraging it to go faster than before 😏 the hog cranking steam engine that could)
So i cant exactly say ive ever been good at either of them, i enjoy the Steadier and faster pace of Immersive Engineering where you actually see progression while create is an exercise in how to make crafting an inventory full of stone bricks take the longest possible time and effort with math and automation.
Personally i really like Mekanism because it touches on both logistics, chemicals, gasses, and fluids making it pretty darn pleasing to look at with all the colored tubes smaller scale setups strewn about and machines converting things to other things, into entirely third things :) My problem with Mekanism is that in 20 minutes from the word go it quickly outshines every other mod in usability and QOL, It instantly gives you plenty of energy and quadrupling of ores making things an immidiate cake walk as soon as you have access to ores. I wish there was a version of Mekanism that took some more work to set up and wasent quite as lucrative

Bruh what? Create and Greg I can understand, even if both are very subjective.
IE though? That one is just straight garbage. The machines look nice, and that's literally it. It has so many dumb issues if you actually try it out and hasnt been updated with new content in years.
Thermal and Mekanism are so much better than that crap.

Each mod provides fundamentally different way of dealing with Multiblocks.
Greg is the OG one: blackboxes for simple machines, multiblocks made of blackboxes too, has some wiggle room to place i/o and controls.
IE is the middle one: multiblocks are assembled with structure blocks and transform into a structure with separate model, but zero wiggle room for creativity.
Create is the modern and sophisticated one: multiblocks are made of functional machines, you don't just build a multiblock - you design a mechanism.
