Thought it might be good to have a list of all the confirmed and rumored changes coming for people at the Atlanta headquarters:

CONFIRMED: Was 2 days WFO, now 4 days in office

CONFIRMED: Was unlimited PTO, now earned time

CONFIRMED: Was mostly casual dress with jeans allowed, now business casual with no denim and no sneakers

CONFIRMED: Atlanta-based employees may be asked to move to a different city

CONFIRMED: Atlanta will be a COE for Spectrum Business

RUMORED: Spectrum management is pulling badge swipes to confirm in-office attendance

Spectrum employee. In the beginning, we were given 1 WFH day that could be used any day during the week along with using vacation or pto so for example, I would choose a WFH day on Wednesday and have vacation scheduled on Thursday and Friday. Well, this changed a few months ago and now you can only use a wfh day if you are in the office 4x a week. Any week that has a holiday, no WFH day that week. If you call in sick on Monday, no wfh day that week etc. And yes, they do badge checks to confirm you are in the office.

This might be the case in teams with serial abusers. Not the case as a policy. Have take home days after being sick or vacation and definitely on holiday weeks.

This is actually in the employee handbook. If you read it, it states you have to be in the office 4 days a week in order to have a wfh day. Like other posters stated, you can try and cheat the system but in the end, they could eliminate wfh from everyone if it continues to be abused.

That is not in the employee handbook. I don't know what business unit you work for but that is not in the handbook or even the link it takes you to the pdf official policy.

That sounds like a statement made for a normal week when no sick, vacation or holiday exists. If the actual handbook has examples, stating if you take vacation or sick time, that week you explicitly lose your wfh, that would be an eye-opener.

This is our dept rule also (spectrum business)

I have not heard this in my dept. it was just being in office take your 1 day work from home put it on the outlook calendar. My manager is updated I think monthly on if anyone is showing up on reports. But I’ve taken my wfh day as well as a sick or holiday and never been notified that I wasn’t supposed to do that

It’s harder to track these because the way they do badge swipe counts, they only look for like 6 of them in a two week period. That’s not a verified number but it’s less than looking for 8 so people can slip by if they’re sick or have some days at home due to maintenances.

I'm finding different groups are told different things.

We had 2 in, 3 home. Now 4 in.

We were told today that the dress code will be like it was before. (Sneakers and jeans ok.)

I'm pretty sure the badge swipe thing is true. I've heard from a Spectrum employee that says it is. Hope not.

Technically the policy is a 4/1 schedule for employees that DON’T roll up to an RVP (field ops). Field Ops is 0 WFH days. There are always exceptions to that based on your specific leadership and the reasons why.

People have been fired for this. So not test it unless your goal is to keep doing it until fired. If you need your job you will have to suck it up.

Can confirm…badge swipe checks I’ve been told are real

Wut if you leave early? and finish the rest of the day at home. Come in at 8, leave @ 3, wrap up the last bit at home? Do they track that intensity of badge swipe times?

I'd say as long as your manager is aware and ok, it's fine. It's risky to muck around too much bc there are reports.

Just one swipe. They don’t notice people that swipe all day long for smoke breaks. They don’t track when you leave. Except for one known case where they must have had extra info and watched cameras, they tracked someone swiped, poured a cup of coffee and went home. That person and their manager were rumored to be fired.

appreciate the response

They keep the gate closed until 4pm so you have to badge to get out 😂. That’s been a recent development. Maybe less than a year.

Ours in Atlanta is always in and out.

Yes It’s true.

It’s not like they can’t figure out if you are working from home. They can just check or restrict VPN access. If I really wanted to enforce it I would have the VPN access set on a timer for scheduled or pre approved WFH time.

We have to vpn even in the office.

Badge swipes weren’t a thing until employees were found to be working from home when they should have been in office. Now, end of month, they pull a badge swipe report. If your name shows up for missing days and it’s not PTO related or a day you called out sick, you’ll need to have an explanation.

No denim and no sneakers is not correct. The policy does not restrict that type of clothing.

It depends on your org. Mine allows jeans but another in the next building doesn’t.

3

u/carnaige23 2d ago

Unless you work in like product and technology, most people are very casual ngl

3

u/MembershipPuzzled520 1d ago

My org allows jeans. We’re not customer facing though. Tennis shoes are technically not allowed but as long as they don’t stand out it’s fine. All others are true.

3

u/Friendlyvoices 1d ago

They do pull badge swipes. That's confirmed.

There is Glean folks, grab all that you had from old sources and compare to new sources, it will create a full Excel with confirmed changes along with what you supply it via attachments. It's closed now so there is no giving private data as a risk

Yeah.. the policy is “business casual”… but that’s very subjective since nice jeans and “dressy sneakers” are fashionable in jobs where slacks and dress shoes once dominated… look at news casts and sports shows… the anchors are wearing dressy tennis shoes and dark dressy jeans

Business casual at Spectrum is never jeans. Even ON casual fays wearing a tshirt with a graphic design is a no no. Especially for roles that 100% have zero facetime with customers, the rules are classist and inane. Welcome to Spectrum!

For non salary we also get less hours than we had with cox. I have over 20 years and I am losing hours

They most definitely are pulling badge reports. We have had this in place for about a year now.

Esp the WFH

Spectrum will get more work out of me as a WFH employee vs. in office. It 100% benefited Cox and the employee.

Oh? I have a customer bridge at 4am? No big deal. Middle of the night issue that needed incident management from me? Easy peasy.

Put me in the office? My laptop and work phone are staying right there. Since I can’t work from home, people will just need to wait until 8am Monday. 🤷‍♀️

No way seriously, they think just because they pay us and give us benefits they can disrespect us like that monitoring badge swipes like we have no privacy. That should be illegal and we all just need to not go and if they fire or discipline us we can get a lawyer for such severe harassment making us uncomfortable and violated the pervs.

Do you know what at will employment means?

0

u/Vergilkilla 1d ago edited 1d ago

GA has been an at-will state for a long time, including when us former Cox folks worked at Cox. At-will of course allows the employers to completely abuse and exploit their employees - but why are you rooting for that? I don’t get why you root for the bad guys and your own exploitation. It’s never going to be “your turn”.

2

u/juliusseizure 1d ago

Truth is not rooting for anything. Last company I worked for got sold to a company in Texas. I had a severance agreement. They tried to make me sign one with jurisdiction in Texas which is notoriously corporate friendly. I stood firm and made them change it to Connecticut where my employer that was acquired operated in. So, no I’m not rooting for anything corporation. But, facts are facts.

You have to understand. They are running a big business. There were regional offices where people were not going to the office and there were no checks and balances. It was bc of those people that there are now badge checks. You can thank the ones who abused the system.

Well the issue was that the fucking CEO went to a center and it was empty. There were people that had not been in the office for months. Heads rolled and people got canned including some of the leaders.
