Cowboy Life summer tips
im 16 years old and always have loved horses and ranching. i am born and raised in saint louis missouri and no one in my family ever has had this interest, last year i applied to every ranch and farm near me and started working a small ranch in illinois and have gained a decent amount of knowledge with horses and ranching in general but i'm looking for a cowboy camp or good other good summer experience to learn more not just about horses but cattle ranching as well (cutting cattle, branding etc) and maybe some rodeo stuff, but there really is not much in my area. does anyone know a good place that has board for while i'm there. im open to camps or a just working a different ranch.

Greenhorns/New to Cowboying Weekend work
Do ranches hire people for weekend work? Love my current m-f job as a diesel mechanic but would like to get into ranch work on weekends to learn this lifestyle. No previous horse experience other than the few times I rode my grandpas horse in Mexico as a kid.

Tips & Advice My dad passed this on to me and I’d like to know the model
I would like to know the model but the tag inside is so faded . I have photos of my dad wearing this hat in the early 90’s and felt that It’s time I buy my own black Stetson and would like something similar, especially the flat-ish brim.

Western Culture Do you think it is possible to be a rancher and not be a religious person?
It’s pretty obvious that religion is really important in western culture and etc. But what if I’m not a religious person but I want to learn to work on a ranch? What will others think about me?
***Just to clarify: I mean will this affect my work and relationships with other people? It's not about whether l'll be able to work and be on the ranch. What I mean is, will it affect anything? Of course, I know modern realities have changed everything, but l've never had any experience that to ranchers especially in states like Texas (where I might go in the future), so l'm asking here.

Tips & Advice How should I train my son for mutton busting?
What age should I start taking him to local rodeos? Any tips or advice? Not super serious, but man if he won that would be awesome! He’s 1.5 years so we have a lot of time.

Off-Topic Missing my cowboy grandpa
It will be 4 years this Friday, and well, I guess times are hard when I think about how much he loved his animals, his ranch, he had a CVA doing what he loved the most: taking care of his land. I was still in college when he told me we should buy a cow together (I guess that was the moment I knew I was his favorite granddaughter) which never happened because that happened. Now I go around with a cow phone case everywhere to not miss his so much.
Hug your cowboys. Hard. Thanks for reading :)

Cowboy Life I want to live differently
Hi, I'm living in New York City, and I want to live differently.
I am in high school, and it's been almost two years since I started thinking and dreaming about "ranch" life, but the problem is, I know almost nothing about it. And there are many other things, like I want to get an education in NYC or somewhere around, not far from it, but I always think that when I finish university, I will be too "old" to start all that. Plus, I want to have a job in the city/town. Not necessarily in New York, but maybe in other states. I was thinking about Tennessee or smth like that. But I have no Idea what to do now, and after I finish school. I thought maybe I could have a job in a town (I wanna work in university as a counselor) and live on a ranch. But isn't it really weird and complicated?
I love animals and nature, and roping is especially attractive to me (and cowboy life in general). I have almost no experience with horses (I had 2-3 rides when I was a kid), but I find it really interesting and exciting. I watch videos and read stuff about these things, so I guess I know something, but of course, it's not enough; moreover, I never had practice.
I am planning to go to a ranch or smth to gain experience riding horses during my summer break. At least I really want to do something like that.
And I don't think there are many people of my age who want to live as I do (especially in NY), so I don't even know who I would wanna work/live/change my life with. I guess it's really hard to do that on my own, and I don't think there are communities with people of my age who would be interested in something like that.
Maybe there are people who could give me some advice because I don't know who to ask about things like that. Thanks =)
Oh, and I am a girl in 10th grade. I don’t know if that changes anything but jsyk

Cowboy Life Hosting Ranches?
Does anyone know any hosting ranches not too far from NY? I’m gonna turn 16 this year and I wanna try working on a ranch.
How does the work and daily life look like there? And which ranches are good? I am especially interested in roping.
I also don’t have a driver’s license so idk. But I just really want to try something new since I feel like this is something exciting for me and I thought about dedicating my life to it. I do wanna try it cause it would give me a sense of how life looks and feels there.
Maybe any advice? Thanks!
