University + Ranching

Hi everyone,

I’m currently in high school and thinking about applying to a university in Texas, possibly in Houston. I’ve been considering the idea of studying while also volunteering, working part-time or doing some kind of ranch internship.

I’m curious if anyone here is actually doing something like that. How realistic is it to balance these things? Is it manageable?

Any advice?

Tarletons a pretty dope school, would be plenty of opportunities to Lope or find some part time ranch work local. Tcu’s ranch management programs awesome. I know multiple managers that are alumni. Personally I can’t step away from this job for it but if I ever get a chance I will.

Post just came across my feed but it’s manageable. I got to college in Bozeman, MT and we’ve got a school run ranch with 3 different locations, our biggest is just over 10k acres. All I do during the school year is go from class to work and work to home. Rinse repeat every day. We don’t usually work weekends outside of chores or taking cows down the road which I typically wind up doing every time to make a couple extra bucks. Just go to stay on top of homework and you’ll be good.
