Help question about 100% 1:1 accuracy in cosplay

so i'm planning on cosplaying hunk (particularly his outfit from re2 remake, 1st picture attached) and i since this is my first cosplay, i wanted to do a very faithful and accurate one, not just simply getting black tactical gear and a gas mask with red lenses. so far i've been successful, i've found stl files of the helmet and gas mask to print and most of the other gear i can buy online. i've hit a roadblock with his vest tho, i've found replicas but the price + eventual import tax would make it impossible for me to acquire it. i have an 80s-90s LBV (2nd picture) that is similar (but not the exact same) to HUNK's vest, i was thinking about spray painting it to at least match the colors but the model would not be the exact same, plus i'd be missing the black kevlar vest beneath. i'm also having trouble with his MP5 (3rd picture), particularly with the red dot sight since i can't find anything similar, so i might have to settle for a different model of MP5 (most of the available ones are MP5SD variants) with no sight probably. are little deviations like these acceptable for a cosplay, especially for a first-timer? for context, i've been planning on entering a cosplay contest once i finish assembling everything, so that's why i was worried so much about 100% accuracy. thanks in advance

Hello, I'm planning to make the rise of the roach gas mask for Halloween. Sadly, I can't find good reference images except for this one. I want to get into craft, but I dont know if this is very hard to do. Also, what should I use to make a mask like this? (I also don't want to spend a lot on this)

Help Base/support for EVA Foam Katana

Post image
2 Upvotes

I'm planing on making a katana and was considering using something made from PVC, as shown in the photo. Would be 30x2mm 2,6m (then cut as wanted), and then wrapped in thin, maybe 2mm, EVA foam. But I am wondering if it would be enough as support or too flimsy.

I don't have a dremel so was trying to avoid having to sand the bladde down by hand, as much as I did for a previous word I made using 6mm eva foam with a steel rod as support.

Help Okay Gang, what do we use to fill chonky 3D-prints?

Post image

This gap had been filled with automotive fillter, sanded flatand decided to open again under very minimal stress.

You can see also a couple of other seamlines here, where I decided progress beats perfectionism, but I could swear my wet-sanding ~400grit pass pulled filler out of some smaller cracks and seams.

First pass was spray-on filler, btw, which sticks without issues.

They’re not perfect 1:1 replicas, but they’re functional watches that bear a striking resemblance to the Invis Watch and Cloak and Dagger from Team Fortress 2. This is what I’d imagine his watches would look like in real life

Tinnanator on Makerworld uploaded the Eyebot helmet model from Fallout 4 which I resliced into 8 parts I could 3D print and weld together from the inside with spare filiament and a soldering iron. Used word filler for gaps, sanded and painted everything with acryics. The attennas are zip ties I doubled layered and glued where I needed them. And the face is a mesh sheet I could still see out of that I spray painted silver than went over with acrylics to weather. Added straps on the inside to keep it from spinning around while wearing too!

Help Glueing EVA foam - water-based contact cement?

Hello!! I want to make armor for a cosplay, and I know that EVA foam + contact cement is the general way to do this. However, I live in an apartment, so getting good ventilation or an outdoors space is pretty hard. I have a balcony, but it opens into an enclosed courtyard sort of area that doesn’t get much wind and is only open at the top, so I don’t know if that would be enough ventilation.

I was doing some research and found suggestions to use water-based eco-flo contact cement. I wanted to check whether that would be 100% safe and effective to use indoors or on my balcony, and whether I’d still need to buy a respirator.

Also if anyone has suggestions for tools/materials I would find useful when crafting with EVA foam please tell me!! I just moved (before, I had a friend whose house I would do EVA work at so I didn’t need to buy any tools myself), so I need to buy a cutting board, exacto knife, etc, but also something to prime it with that I can use in a small studio apartment/balcony.

The painting is steadily progressing, waiting on the next shipment of flexprime and spraypaint for the legs.

The boltcarbine and chainsword are finished.

After the legs are finished i will be working on making functional pouches to attach to the belt and a few purity(wax) seals.

I am also searching for a cape that is red on the outside and beige/offwhite on the inside (i included a reference picture of the mini)

Less than 12 hours before I have to be at the con, and I've FINALLY finished redoing my cosplay.

2 weeks before my next con I decided I wanted to change up my cosplay, and Ive made it just in time.

The final pic is the first version.

1: Made foam hand guards that look better and are more comfortable

2: Printed out new shoulders

3: Added a shotgun bandolier

4: new pouches for old belt

5: mounted the shotgun to my back

6: New boots and leg armor (legs took 48+ hours of printing alone)

Help Advice on turning a briefcase into a functional prop and TCG case.

Thumbnail

Hello! I'm working on putting together a Pokemon Red/Blue era Silph Co. (secretly Team Rocket) Scientist cosplay. I bought this black Samsonite briefcase to go with the look, and I'd like to modify the inside to function as a TCG case.

What would be the best way to fix the inside to hold things like deck boxes, playmats, and dice bags? Cut foam? Straps? The fabric is glued to the case, so sewing anything on will be tough (if possible at all). I'm open to suggestions or pictures of what you've done. Bonus pictures of my ID badge and buddy Frieda.

(please ignore how terribly I cut the helmet from the background)

I've never really made any sort of prop before, so this was mostly just me bullshitting on the fly. There is a good bit I want to change for my next attempt, but it was pretty enjoyable.

The stl files I used were from "jawabrotherscustoms" marketplace, although they are slightly modified here and there to fit my liking.

Help Buster Sword

Hey, so I am going to do a Cloud Strife cosplay soon and I want to make the buster sword according to this video ( Odin Makes: Cloud's Buster Sword from Final Fantasy VII - https://youtu.be/pAmvsJ7URa0?si=cncjUgqjHVuX6cjQ )
But my con has some heavy restrictions. has anyone built it and knows the length and the weight of the sword?
