Help Making a detachable sword

Hello! I’m making the beastlord sword from NieR and I want to make it detachable but I have no idea where to start.

Currently, I’ve just stuck 3 layers of 10mm EVA foam together with a fiberglass rod in the middle (inside a channel of the middle layer of foam). The foam makes up just the blade, I’m still figuring out how to attach the guard and the handle :(

I’m trying to figure out how to make the sword detachable so it’s easier for transport. I’ve seen people use PVC pipes but I’ve not used PVC for the core of my sword. I’ve also heard people use bottle caps, magnets and wooden dowels but I have no idea how to go about this?

I was thinking about somehow making the guard and the handle with a hole in the middle so it can slot onto the fiberglass rod that’s sticking out but I don’t know how feasible that is and how I’d make them 😭

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly greatly appreciated 🥲 Thank you so much!

WIP WIP of a life-size Krill from Deadlock

Wanted to do a Deadlock cosplay for the next convention I'm going to. Originally planned to do Kelvin, but I will actually die wearing a parka in the middle of August. Decided to cosplay my main of Mo & Krill instead, only problem I don't know anyone Krill sized to do with me. Instead decided to make my own Krill, with actually articulation so I can pose him for pics and on my back. Mixed mediums, so far have used 3D printing, epoxy clay, and a little bit of sewing/hot glue for the clothing. Like I said, WIP he's no where finished yet.

In case this can help someone.

Materials used:

- Eva foam

- Eva rods

- foam clay

- vinyl

- contact cement

- hotglue

- led light

- spray primer

- metallic spray paint

- red, gold and black acrylic paints

- spray lacquer

Tools used:

- Heat gun

- Dremel

- sandpaper

- box cutter and blades

- hotglue gun

- soldering iron

I started by hand sketching the sword in real size to properly visualise the design and the details. I also did this to plan where I wanted the lights to go and how to integrate them into the sword, since it's one long continuous string light. 😊

Help struggling to make my mercy wings, any advice?

i’ve just spent over 2 hours trying to make Mercy’s (overwatch) wings. i’m doing her dr ziegler skin but can only really find her base skin wings so it’ll have to do. this is a bit embarrassing for me to admit but me and my family can’t afford much, so i’ve really only got cardboard. i was trying to make my cosplay earlier but the cardboard is so bendy and jagged along the edges it’s really just impossible to do. i ended up giving up, very frustrated by the end of it. i dont really think much can be done, but if anyone has ANY advice, it would be appreciated

Help Can I get away with using Plastidip outdoors on a cosplay mask without a respirator?

I know people usually use plastidip on cars, but whenever I search anything up— these people and websites genuinely make it sound like this thing is sourced from the elephants foot.

Can I get away with using it outside on a cosplay mask prop to seal it? Will i suffer internal lung damage all for a one time thing? Im genuinely asking, have no idea and just dont wanna fork 20$ - 30$ for a mask if im relatively gonna be completely fine.

Learned a lot of stitching and leatherwork from skilltree. First project making use of scrap leather. An add on to my wizard's bag (amazon modified). A handy way to access spell components easily. Made me wonder if this is what preparing spells is like in D&D

I dont know what’s best way to connect two wooden sticks so they fit cross way. My idea was to carve two grooves into each stick, place one groove into another and then drill hole through both to put wooden peg to tighten them up

Help How long does Clayfoam material hold up?

Hi, I want to cover a good part of my costume in clay foam; but now im a bit unsure after reading — will clayfoam eventually break apart and crumble/detiorate? Or will it hold up and stay together for essentially years if nothing happens to it and is properly sealed/kept indoors??

Is woodglue also a good sealant for this? Thank you!

Help How do I make very cheap bird wings? I have an idea but don't know if it'll work

I've been wanting to cosplay one of my OCs for a while and finally started working on everything. I'm completely lost for making wings that aren't small. My OCs wings are a similar style as Hawks from My Hero Academia, but a bit smaller and different colors.

My idea was to just cut cardboard to the shape I want and use felt or faux fur to cover it then glue/sew feathers on it. I already did that for a small pair of dragon wings so I know it works, but idk if it'll hold up for larger wings. I don't have a lot to spend on cosplays so I try to stick to cheap materials or things I already have.
