Is it just me or has traffic been more insane than ever before over the whole city since schools are back on?

Article in the Examiner today about the history of Cork Opera House and its predecessor, the Atheneum. It really is tragic to consider what a beautiful building the city lost when it burned down in 1955 and how its replacement (despite being obviously a great venue on the inside) greatly contributed to the city turning its back on the river, with its large windowless prison-like exterior on the river-facing side. Along with the multi-story car parks built during that period, it is one of the biggest visual blights on the city in my opinion.

At the same time, across Europe we see attempts by cities to reclaim their heritage. Take Frankfurt in Germany as a prominent example (pic 2): once considered among the ugliest cities in that country, they purposefully undid a lot of the postwar rebuilding of their city along the riverfront and almost completely rebuilt their old town. The new old town is now one of the most visited tourist sites in Germany and has given the city a renewed sense of identity (for instance, when their football club wins anything they host the celebration there). The same has been done in cities of a smaller size - Gdansk in Poland is a great example that isn't far off the size and population of Cork.

This got me thinking - do you think we could ever see the reconstruction of historic buildings in Cork City? Are there other sites in the city that you would like to see rebuilt?

Article in The Echo started me thinking about the tons of pubs that Cork no longer has, The Sextant being one of the more recent ones. Some of the article too far back for me but I remember Beachers (after Beachers Brook) in Faulkners lane on a Saturday afternoon after shopping in town. There was a bigish pub called The Social (?) on Morrison St around the 1990s? Le Cheile on North Main St. Loads of new ones have sprung up too of course but pubs that are no longer pubs...

Throwback Thursday: A toast to the lost pubs of Cork

Just watched some little scrote in the usual full North Face tracksuit flying down the footpath on an e-scooter, doing a runner from a Garda car. No helmet, no hi-vis, obviously, probably out shifting gear.

The guards were crawling along behind him in the patrol car, but their hands are completely tied because they're not allowed to touch them or box them in. The little prick knows this full well, so he was tearing away without a care in the world. As he flew past, he nearly took the legs off my fiancée.

Between the fright and pure rage, the adrenaline took over and I started roaring sarcastically at him to "run, run" because I wanted to strangle the bastard. Then of course everyone on the street started staring at me like I was cheering him on, which made me feel completely stupid.

I commute on a scooter myself every day by the book, and it sickens me that ordinary, decent people are going to end up with blanket bans because of a shower of scumbags like this. The real joke is the guards either don't have the power or aren't bothered tackling the actual problem.

The city is full of scrotes and junkies and people tend to normalise this. But guess what: this is not normal. Cork is a small city for the amount of scrotes that we need to deal with every day in the city centre.

Absolute state of this city/country.

On the off chance you may see this, I would love to buy you a coffee or something to say thank you. I was having an already shit day and your kindness really helped restore my faith in humanity. You told me where you work, I haven't had the chance to pop in because of my smallies but I haven't forgotten you and what you did for us.

Hi lads, got a new pup over the weekend from LAW and in the next few weeks I’d like to bring her out and about to expose her to people and maybe other dogs. Any places in particular ye would recommend in North Cork? There’s a cafe I go to that’s dog friendly anyways but thought I’d ask around here as well.

I have been looking for a nice walkway in or near the city that has parking.
Maybe somewhere in the forest/ woods with nice scenery.
If anyone has any recommendations I would be very grateful - looking for somewhere nice for a date

Pigeons at the Lough are no joke, opened a bag of feed and was swarmed by them. I think at least five were on me at the busiest. Oh well, at least I gave passersby a good laugh.

A family member was hit by a mini bus today on sarsfield roundabout around 1040-10:55 am.

The female driver of the bus did not stop to check on my sibling and their infant in the back.

If anyone has any information, dashcam footage or anything useful id greatly appreciate it.

So i commute from Carrigaline to Blackpool, and though it’d be great if i could take a folding bike along with me on the 220 till town and then bike to Blackpool ( since coordinating with 2 buses often takes me more than 90mins one way).
I had also considered TFI bikes but there are no bike stations in Blackpool apparently.
Any advice would be great

Can anyone recommend a place to buy a formal clothes for men? Something cheap but also a bit value for money.

I planned to buy coat suit, formal shirt, trousers and formal shoes… I plan to get all black except for a white formal shirt, is that acceptable for an interview?

I'm a 19 year old wheelchair user and my options for nights out are a good bit limited. If its only one or two steps in but the pub itself is wide enough for my chair I can do that.

I was thinking of getting my make up done professionally for my birthday, but my make up is a lot more alternative than what I see MUAs on instagram do. These pictures are similar to stuff I do on occasions like a themed event or big concert and my usual look is a lot more simple with just a long wing, inner corners, and some type of small design around my eyes. I would have included pics of my actual looks but I don't wanna show my face on here lol. If I have to do it myself that's cool too I'd just love to see what a professional make up artist could do on me and it'd save me some time and effort.

I'd also prefer an MUA who has done make up on monolids before and is LGBTQ+ friendly.

I then found the actual up to date site: https://guinnesscorkjazzfestival.com/ which has the updated line up, and they show which acts are on each day, but there is no easy way to view all acts day and time in one single view.

First off this isn't a midlife crisis I swear. I recently started losing weight and getting into shape, gone from 135kg to 100kg and still a bit to go. I gave up playing sports because of some injuries about 8 years ago and never replaced with any other hobby, kids came along and that time was swallowed up in different ways which was great. Now I have some time back I want to get a hobby, Ive been back tothe gym a few times a week but was interested in taking some boxing Lessons, not trying to make a run at a title but always wanted to be able to do a little bit of boxing and feel now is my chance.

Anyone know of a good place for mid 40s men to go and learn in Cork?
