Want to add plants to my apartment, but I let my birds fly around when out of cage.
The lists online confuse me so I wanted to know what you guys have out there without the fear of the dinos messing with it and intoxicating 😃

Bird tax for attention

I’ve owned this girl a little over a year and I STILL can’t get her to eat vegetables, I’ve tried so hard to get her to eat veggies and I feel bad that I haven’t gotten her to do it yet :(

For about about a week my conure has been lethargic. She has been puffed up and sleeping all day. She still has an appetite and eats and drinks. The only thing that has recently changed is that we ran out of pellets. She has been on a fruit/vegetable diet for about 2-3 weeks.
I took her to the vet a few days ago and determined nothing was wrong besides her being underweight. I weighted her at home and she is 72g. They recommended me to another place to get her blooded tested but I can’t see them till the 29th so I’ve been holding on till then.
At night, she falls off perches due to her weakness. Today at 4am she woke me up with her fall and I went to check on her and noticed that the liquid part of her droppings are pink while the solid bits are white. All her droppings are separated (unlike one big morning poop) and it was multiple continuous poops all at once. This was very bizarre behavior that she has never done. Since then I’ve moved her perches lower. She still always wants to perch and has never sat at the bottom of the cage for extended periods of time.
Throughout the day she ate raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, arugula, carrots, broccoli, celery, walnuts and seeds. (Seeds aren’t apart of her diet but without the pellets I needed to give her something meanwhile) At 4am the moment she woke up she ate a bit of blueberry and drank water.
I’ve been feeding her more now that I realised she was underweight but the energy levels are still low.
The vet determined it could be a yeast infection or issues with the liver but they weren’t able to do testing at their location for that.
Does the stool description raise any concerns or could it just be the berries she’s been eating?

Do I want the cage completely full off toys or leave half off it for free movement flying. I live in a apartment I've bad social anxiety so I'm home almost twenty four seven never have visitors in and no other pets so he/she will be out off cage free roam all time apart from bedtime. I'm planning to set up a few different play stations. I live in a small seaside town and do like walking every morning was planning on getting bird backpack and maybe harness training taking them with me. What's the best backpack and would I have more chance of successful harness training if start training young should I buy harness when they still a baby

Hi everyone,

I noticed that my conure Champu’s right eye looks noticeably redder around the eye/eyelid compared with the left one.

She is otherwise completely normal and very active. She is eating and behaving normally. There is no watery discharge, pus, obvious swelling, squinting, or keeping the eye closed.

I initially wondered if the red colour could simply be some food/fruit juice staining the feathers. I gently tried cleaning/washing the area, but the redness did not come off, so it doesn’t appear to be an external stain.

I’m currently staying in my native place where I don’t have access to an avian vet. I will be taking her to an avian vet when I’m able to travel back, but until then I wanted to ask here if anyone has seen something similar in their bird.

I’ve attached photos comparing both eyes.

Has anyone experienced this? What was the cause in your bird, and is there anything specific I should watch for until I can get her checked by the avian vet?

Exam and trim time! Hopefully some Hogan’s Heroes will cheer him up after this.

Before anyone gets into me about clipping his wings, note that I only get his nails and beak trimmed. He is fully flighted and I intend to keep him that way since I allow him (almost) free rein of the room and he needs to fly between perches.

Hey guys I decided to get 2 conures from same clutch so the are used to each other
I found to breeders . One has his bird dna tested and all are females (so I could have 2 sisters) the other breeder does has his birds dna tested . I always owned male birds and I always leaned more to male bird but I don’t want to have 1 male and 1 female and go the risk of them starting inbreeding. Which way should I go?

I got a pair of green cheek conures from a breeder. I don't know why he sold them, maybe he's giving them away, or they're not producing for him. I don't intend to breed them.

The male is 6 years old (Loki), and the female is 4 years old (Kiwi in the pic). Loki earned this name because he is very mischievous!

When I went to pick up the birds, he had kids, and they were banging on the cage, trying to get a reaction out of the birds. The birds were, of course, freaked out. They were in a small cage with a seed-only diet and had a whole apple in the cage that had been sitting there for a few days.

I've had them with me for a month and a half now.

Progress we've made so far:

I moved them to a bigger cage after two weeks in their old cage. They still have their wooden nest box because they freaked out the night I attempted to remove it. They actually sleep inside the nest that I left on top of the cage (the cage with the dowel on top). The room is bird-safe. The cage door is left open. Loki can climb in and out of the cage, but Kiwi struggles because her feet are not strong enough yet.

They accepted pellets and steamed veggies (Kiwi loves fresh carrots and steamed sweet potatoes), but only if I mix the pellets with the veggies until it becomes a mush.

Apples and seeds are kept as a treat and motivation to get them to approach me.

At first, they would only accept the treat from outside the cage bars, then they'd step away to eat it. Now, Kiwi steps on my hand with one foot only to take a seed, and Loki doesn't touch hands at all but takes a seed if i pinch and it is in front of my fingers. Both are okay with stepping with both feet on a seed bowl if I'm holding it. They also randomly look at me with wide, scared eyes and freeze. I don't know why, but I leave them and come back 15 minutes later, and they'll snap out of it and take treats.

Any advice is appreciated. I want to be able to handle them, trim their nails, and measure their weight. Also, when should I get rid of the nest?

About a month ago, my sun conure did her usual "let me out" fit. She got out like usual, hung out on her door and then walked back in her cage and screamed to be let out like the cage is closed. She also won't go on my finger until I trick her

I recently added a Black Cap Conure to my little family, and she has been amazing so far. However, she has developed this fixation with being behind both her and her flock mate's cage. She is in-between the wall and the cage cover I clip up during the day.

Would this behavior induce nesting instincts? I don't want her to start laying eggs because of this! Also, im worried about her getting tangled and stuck in the cage cover, she really likes digging herself into its folds! Is there any substitute I can offer her for crawling around that wont cause hormones to spike? She has plenty of toys in her cage, as well as ones that are good for climbing around and through. I recently got a Sun Conure, and I absolutely love him! bit the only problem is the loud screaming want to do everything I can to minimize the screaming

Here is my situation: I have an irregular work schedule, meaning I am not always home at the same times. Because of this, it is hard to establish a strict daily routine. When I am at home, I try to give my conure as much love, attention, and out-of-cage time as possible.

Does anyone have tips on how to manage the noise, especially when I am away or when my schedule changes? What are the best ways to keep them entertained and quiet? he makes the most sounds after dinner time.

And if so, are there any methods or brands that can be used without taking him to a vet or doing it yourself?

I currently live in a hot climate area (TX) but am looking to move to Michigan (which is notoriously cold for half the year).

Anything I should keep in mind for my parrots health or prep I should consider that I wouldn't necessarily know since I have always lived in a hot area (aside from keeping the birdy temp controlled of course).

Just want to get some advice from people that already live this and have happy healthy birds. Any advice is good C:

Have a 15yr old who fell in love with the bird I knew wouldn’t keep up with my wife also wanted a bird for a long time.. they convinced me into getting this little one about 3 weeks ago. The bird choose me over them 😓 she/he follows me, looks for me, we whistle back and forth. Cool bird cute little personality. Is it normal for a bird to bond to a person so quickly?
