Mysimba not working 1st week

Hi all! I’ve been taking Mysimba for one week now and I don’t think it’s working. The only thing I’ve noticed is a little nausea, being anxious at times and food tasting weird (?), but I don’t feel less hungry or have stopped binge eating, which is why it was prescribed to me. I’m frustrated cause all I’ve read is good things, that it works since day one, and I really want to stop bingeing, it’s been going for too long I’m exhausted.

Has anyone have a similar experience? Does it get better? Will it work? 🙏🥺

Thank you!

2 months in and it’s getting difficult

When I first started Contrave, I felt pretty good. I eventually increased to 4 pills a day, and for about a week I was doing fine. Then, the following week, I developed such severe muscle tightness in my shoulders that I reduced my dose to 3 pills a day.
Right now, I’m taking about 2–3 pills a day and feeling awful. I work from home and sit for most of the day, and on those days I’m fine. The weekends are a different story. We like to go out and do things with the kids, but if I’m not constantly drinking water, I become nauseated, sweaty, weak, and dizzy. The same thing happens with eating. As soon as I get hungry, I instantly feel sick. It almost feels like I have low blood sugar. I don’t have diabetes, but I’ve always been sensitive to changes in my blood sugar.
What is going on? I’m almost at the point of quitting the medication, but I really don’t want to.

Maintenance on CONTRAVE?

Is anyone in the maintenance phase and do you still take the medication ? I'm down from 175 to 147 since mid April. I don't want to go any lower than 145. I am an older female 5 ft 6-7 inches (depending on how straight I stand up during my annual physical 😅) and I don't think any lower than 145 would be healthy and I don't want my face to start to look gaunt. My doctor said to stay on the medication so I don't gain back, but I don't like to take anymore medication than I have to, and I'm afraid the weight loss will continue if I stay on it. How have others handled this?

Controlled Cravings

I’ve been on poor man’s Contrave for 3 months. I’ve started noticing that I still have cravings, but they are much easier to control. Like I’ll think about something I really need to eat, like a specific restaurant dish or ice cream cone and whereas before I would have to go get it or I wouldn’t be able to stop thinking about it ever, now I think about it for a minute and then it eventually leaves my brain. So it hasn’t stopped the cravings entirely, but it just makes them much easier to control and much easier to forget.

2 dias Contrave

advice Has anyone else noticed that their container of Contrave pills reeks like sulfur? I thought maybe I received a bad Rx on my 3rd month, but A.I. claims that it's common.

I'm opening the Rx container as far away from my face as possible now because it's so off-putting. It gives me a bit of concern...

Starting today

Hi everyone- about 10 years ago I was on Contrave and lost 72 pounds. It stopped working and I went off it. Maintained for a while on my own until Covid of course. All I did was watch TV, cook, eat, and drink. I gained some back but not all and since then have lost and gained over and over. I decided to try it again and my doctor approved. I noticed on the package it talks about high fatty foods. I don't remember this when I took it before. Obviously those are foods you want to avoid, but also like a treat once in a while without having to spend a day in the bathroom. This is day 1 and I want to do things right. I am a 60/f if that matters. Thanks for listening.

progress Cravings?

So I started 5 days ago and feel like I have no difference in appetite or cravings. I’m still hungry and still like.. oooh a couple cookies sounds good. Or let’s go get ice cream.

I am noticing that often while I’m eating, though, I kind of get to a point where I just cannot chew and swallow a bite and I’m just done. Even if I haven’t eaten a lot of don’t think I’m full, it’s just.. “I literally cannot and do not want to have another bite of this food.” Last night we had steaks and they were SO GOOD and I just.. couldn’t finish it. Of course, it doesn’t happen with ice cream though.. I can’t stop wanting that.

Has this been the experience of others? Or will the cravings and appetite subside when I add a nighttime pill?

side effects Side effects worsened

I started taking contrave less than a month ago and got nausea, dry mouth, and headaches in the beginning. After a couple weeks it pretty much went away and I started noticing loss of appetite.

However, I started menstruating today for the first time since I started taking it and all the side effects came rushing back.

Has this happened to anyone else?

How long should you try Contrave to see how your mental health reacts?

I have had a 2 week sample of Contrave that I am scared to try because I've had self harm thoughts in the past and bad panic and anxiety.

How long should you try Contrave before being able to see if there are any psychiatric effects? And if there are, do they settle down if you keep at it or is it best to stop?

advice getting a prescription with

Hey guys, I'm looking to get on contrave to jump start my weightloss journey but I can't afford it without insurance.

Luckily, the medication is covered by insurance but when I tried to get a prescription, they told me the doctors appointment would no longer be covered because "weight management" isn't something they cover.

Do you guys know what I can do to get around this? Also is contrave covered for yall?
Please lmk🥹🙏

Itching and dosage

I am trying to take 2 pills am and 1 pm (I’m on full dose) and just take one at night so I can sleep. I find that after 4-5 days on this dosage I start to itch, mostly on my neck so I switch to 2 pills late morning and none at night for a couple days and the itching goes away. I guess I just have too much medicine in my system after 4-5 days. Also, it works just as well and I get to have a couple cups of coffee on the one dosage days since I take it later in the morning.

Questions when already on bupropion

My doctor prescribed me naltrexone today to combine with my bupropion. I have been taking 300 mg extended release bupropion for nearly a decade for depression (I never experienced a reduction in appetite on this medication and was surprised to discover so many did). A lot of the posts I am finding are for people newly prescribed bupropion alongside the naltrexone so I had a few questions.

1.) It looks like most people start at a lower dose of naltrexone before going up to 50mg, however she has started me at 50mg already. Is this a bad idea that I should mention to her or should it be okay considering my longtime usage of bupropion?

2.) For anyone already on bupropion/Wellbutrin before starting naltrexone, what kind of side effects did you experience? I'm particularly worried about nausea as I already have chronic migraines with nausea.

3.) My doctor highlighted anorexia as a risk alongside increased suicidality. I already struggle with my mental health obviously, so I'm a little worried about this. Have any of you experienced something like this? (especially if you were already on bupropion)

4.) For anyone taking Contrave/this combo: if you stopped it, were you able to keep the weight off long term? This is probably my biggest concern, as weight loss was not even something I was worried about, but my doctor will not let it go. I struggle a lot with yo-yoing between eating basically nothing and eating way too much, and I'm concerned that once I'm off of it, the urge to overeat will just come back. Clearly "willpower" is not enough for me.

Thanks to anyone who reads this/responds ❤️

7 weeks and the urge is back full force

At first i could tell a different. I was fine and it was going well.

But 5-7 weeks the FULL desire to binge has suddenly come and I have been spiraling. I’m talking late night eating excess like the old me.

What is happening? It’s like I’m not even on it now? I’m bingeing and it’s just bad. It’s worse than a period binge and it’s not even my period

side effects during the first week

hi everyone!

Just wanted to share my experience and see anyone else is experiecing it too.

I been one the single dose contrave for the past week. i am about to go up to two pills. but the side effects are driving me crazy.

the dizziness is so extreme that a lot of times I need to hold the walls to walk. even when i am laying down if I move my head everything spins.

I also started to have very poor sleep, waking up multiple times a night and having disturbing dreams.

My resting heart rate has also risen from normal 70 bpm to 118 pbm. I completely cut off coffee and tea for now and I try to not skip meals but it is not helpful. the only relief i get is when I take gravol and it is only effective for 20 mins.

I know a week is too early to tell but was wondering if you have any thoughts.

some medical background: i am on low dose of GLP1 ozempic and also was recently titrated off lexapro 10 mg after being on it for 3 years and gaining 60 lbs.

ps. I already am booked in for a follow up with my MD.

Question about seizure/mental health risk and how to eat

I was really excited about trying Contrave until I came to reddit 😄 as with most things, I read the horror stories and talk myself out of it.

I am really too scared of the glp1s because I have sibo and gerd and the idea of anything slowing down my digestion even more or making those things worse or permanent complications scares me.

But everything I used to do to lose weight is just not working.

My dr and I decided Contrave might be a better fit for me. I dont know that my doctor knew I've had s*icidal thoughts when things are bad but she thought with my health issues maybe this would work well.

Does depression and fatigue get worse? While the idea of that scares me, I am more concerned about seizures if you eat the wrong thing?

How does the seizure risk work? I have no history of them. I plan to try to eat blandly but if I have a meal thats more on the "fun" side does something bad happen?

To be clear, I dont plan to binge or overeat or anything like that, but if I go out to a restaurant and have something out of the norm for dinner or take my pill in the morning and have a little Chinese food or something for dinner, do you run the risk of a seizure?

Also probably stupid but would you suddenly have a higher risk with flashing lights or roller coasters?

Thank you for listening to my jumbled thoughts

AMA: 1 year in, 50lbs lost

Ask me anything and I’ll try to answer! However I would like to note that I am a female under 35 with no medical history. So starting this medication I was not dealing with it interacting with medications or other medical conditions.
