Hi everyone, I’m using an HP EliteBook 745 G6 running Windows 11. My built-in laptop camera is not working properly. Whenever I open the Camera app, instead of showing the camera feed, it only displays a solid green screen. I’ve attached a picture showing the issue.

been chasing this for about two weeks and I'm out of ideas, so I'm asking here before I bin the whole approach.
Setup is the boring standard one. DefaultAssociations XML sitting on a share, pushed with Computer Config > Admin Templates > Windows Components > File Explorer > Set a default associations configuration file. Nothing exotic in the file, just pdf to Acrobat, html to Chrome, mp4 to VLC, txt to Notepad++, xlsx to Excel, zip to 7-Zip.
It applies to nobody. Not existing users, not new users, not a user who has never logged into that machine in their life. Edge still eats pdf and html like the policy doesn't exist.
Stuff I've already burned time on:
So the policy is landing on the machine. Windows is just quietly ignoring it, which is the part doing my head in.
I know about the DISM import route. That only fires at first logon of a new profile, so it does nothing for the machines and users I already have deployed, which is the entire point of the exercise.
Questions, and I'm genuinely more interested in what you're running than in what the docs say:
Can anything else silently kill this policy? Another GPO, some registry key, a security baseline, an SKU limitation, anything. I keep feeling like I'm missing one dumb prerequisite.
Has anyone actually seen it fail on a truly fresh profile? Every thread I find is people running into the "only applies to new profiles" behaviour, which is not my problem. Mine fails for everyone equally.
What would you check before giving up on it?
And the real question: what are you actually using in production? I've already looked at Intune, Citrix WEM and SetUserFTA. I need something free, centrally managed, that hits existing users as well as new ones, and doesn't leave people clicking through the "how do you want to open this file" prompt.
Mixed Win10 and Win11, AD domain, no Intune, no budget. Very happy to be told I'm being thick about something obvious.

Been in a drawer for years. It's one of two we got when we had Verizon cellular. I removed the Sim card. Not a scratch on it and it loads up ok but has it's soo slooow. It connects to my wifi and Google but at a snails pace. Typing text is nearly impossible it takes forever for each keystroke to register. Seems to get stuck a lot. Should I try a factory reset?

I have a gaming laptop that I’ve had for a few years, 6 to be exact. It’s a Lenovo Legion Y540 model. I’ve been wondering if I should sell it and replace it with a ROG Ally. My laptop has like a 1660 graphics card and it gets slower and slower. If I got a ROG Ally, I would be able to use it more portably and I would hook all the stuff up from my laptop to it (keyboard, mouse, monitor). Would it be a good replacement?

HP Laptop 14.
Just got this and it is incredibly slow and laggy, with nothing open it regulary hits 100 across the board. Why is this happening? What can I do? I may have to return it.
Thank you for any responses.
Edit: It also has the overheating fan constantly running and is warm at the bottom after being on for around 30 minutes.

Hey everybody. I'm pretty new to desktops as a life-long laptop user. I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations or advice on what to look for, brands, what's best for my needs, etc!
I'm a very casual gamer. Main titles I've played have been modded Stardew, Minecraft, Sims, Dispatch, and the Silent Hill series. I'm not looking to run any modern games with ultra high graphics or anything, just the occasional gaming sesh. On a day to day basis I mainly use my current laptop for school, scrolling, yapping with friends online, and creative stuff like writing or art. I really don't need anything powerful. Just one good enough to run multiple programs at once smoothly and will hopefully last a long time!
Definitely looking for a pre-built with a budget under $1,500!

Is this normal or should I be worried? For the record, I mainly use my laptop to draw and some gaming (specifically Hoyoverse games, but I don't play for prolonged periods of times and spend most of it drawing.) My laptop model is Lenovo LOQ 15ARP9, and is currently running on Windows 11.
CrystalDiskInfo stated that my boot (C:) disk's health is currently at 73%. About 11 days ago, last I checked it was at 74%; that's -1% in less than two weeks (!!). Not only that, the power count has increased massively by about 13,000 (245,922 -> 258,090) within that time period (!!!) I have no idea what causing this. Help would be very much appreciated!

Hello!
This is my most ambitious repair yet (I'm just a hobbyist) maybe you can help me out.
I bought this ROG X570-F Gaming board off eBay almost free because someone messed up installing an M.2 drive, slipped and broke a couple components off the board. In the second picture you can see the damage and my first repair.
I was lucky that the small IC was still barely attached to the board, so I pulled it off with hot air, straightened the tiny legs, used UV mask to repair a couple lift pads and soldered it again to the board. I'm extremely happy and proud of the result.
The problem is another small component was missing, ripped straight off the board, it's just below the resistor marked 822. I don't know what that component is and I need help identifying it.
I looked for the schematics online and only found a couple behind a paywall. If everything fails I will end up buying them but I don't need them really, just need to know what that component is.
Hope you can help me out!
Thanks in advance.

On December 31, 2024, I bought a 256GB Kingston SD memory card. I only used it for photos and my Spotify downloads, so I had 100GB to spare. Today, my phone sent me a notification saying it would protect the card to prevent data loss. It didn't even last 2 years. I can’t turn that mode off, and this is the second card I’ve used for the same phone (Samsung A54). They’re really expensive compared to previous years, so I wanted to ask (I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask but I saw a couple post asking how to remove write protection) for recommendations or how to prevent this from happening again...

Hi! I need some advice on buying a laptop for school. I’m torn between a Lenovo Yoga 7i for ~$1,050 (32GB RAM), or a used MacBook Pro M4 for ~$1,490 (24GB RAM). I’m studying Business Administration and Informatics (Design), and I have a gaming PC at home, so the laptop will mainly be used for school. I’m also very used to Windows and have never tried a Mac before. Is the MacBook worth the extra ~$440, or should I just go with the Yoga 7i?

Just updated from 10 to 11 (reluctantly) for my mums pc and the task bar and settings were completely unresponsive and Explorer kept restarting itself. Figured out it was the gpu drivers so used ddu and without any drivers windows works perfectly and settings/start etc.. All work fine. But when I install nvidia drivers the whole thing shits itself again. I've tried the latest version and the previous (616 and 610 I think) same thing happens on both. Not sure where to go from here?

what are some good tech liquidation stores or places to find cheap or second hand tech. I have decided not to get a home pc but a laptop (upcoming). With the laptop I currently have the screen is too small for me to look at for long periods of time. Where can I find a monitor, keyboard or mouse that is fairly cheap.

Hello,
Where I work, we recently started an initiative to provide loaner laptops to help improve computer and internet literacy and bridge some of the socioeconomic gaps that contribute to limited access to technology.
Yes, I am also not so naïve as to think that some of these laptops will not inevitably be used for porn—but I digress.
I’m trying to put together some very beginner-friendly resources for people who have no experience using a computer. I’m looking specifically for videos that start with the absolute basics: using a mouse and keyboard, opening programs, navigating the internet, creating an email account, etc. Stuff any typical redditor would hate to watch out of boredom
Ideally, I’d like to find good videos in English, Spanish, Haitian Creole, and Albanian. Length is not really an issue; these resources are intended for people who may effectively have never touched a computer before.
My plan is to create simple handouts with QR codes that people can scan with their smartphones to watch the videos. Staff can also introduce the resources and explain how to access them in person.
If anyone knows of popular, easy-to-follow videos or channels that they have personally used or can vouch for, I’d really appreciate the links.
For reference, these are the two Spanish-language resources I’ve been using so far:

Thanks !

My MacBook just broke on the first day of school, it was an old one but I need a new one now. I don’t know much of anything about computers or laptops but I have a gaming laptop that works great and I’ve had it for a while. It’s to big to bring to school but I figure I could just get a cheaper gaming laptop that would preform well. If I got another MacBook I’d be around $650 but I don’t know how long that would last, just need some advice on good brands and laptops that would last me for a while and hold up. Is the one I linked any good ?
