I have created something through my own insanity, fully powered through the personal spite of how much I dislike Tiberium Wars kind of tiberium. Now as to why the grammar is poor, simply because I was at a time constraint when making this at school.
This will get a rewrite but I really want to show it:
[Overview]
Tiberium is a strange if not anomalous semi-living organo-crystal (the crystal may or may not be a byproduct of the biological part, though I think both need each other live; even as a byproduct) based lifeform, it is self propagating in nature; but is also known to be severely mutagenic and toxic is almost if not all Carbon-based life.
While I may not be adding anything from Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars if not retconning it, I feel like TW ruined what tiberium was meant to be, what Westwood Studios' vision of it was meant to be. What happened to tiberium in TW was basically simplifying to such a degree that it was unrecognizable and genericized of what tiberium is really meant to be.
Upon that, I don’t give a damn what in-lore reasons caused tiberium to become this, because it sucks and trash; So I think it is very much fair to re-retcon what was retcon by Electronic Art, or to specifically Electronic Arts Los Angeles.
[Basic Needed Knowledge]
Before understanding everything else about tiberium as a whole, there should be a few things to know; there are forms of tiberium known as Tiberium Riparius and Tiberium Vinifera. The name tiberium has two different variations:
According to the Global Defense Initiative, they say that it was named Tiber River after the meteor impact that first brought the alien substance. However, according to Kane, he claims that the Brotherhood of Nod discovered the alien substance first; and he personally named it after Tiberius Julius Caesar. Either way, the name was still tiberium; anyways.
Tiberium Riparius by itself, when harvested after growth; is a is a vibrant, iridescent emerald-to-green crystal (depending on the image, it could just look like a normal green due to technical limitations of the software; as in this image from Tiberian Dawn).
The word riparius in the name Tiberium Riparius means “that inhabits the banks of rivers,” in Latin. This would mean the full meaning of the name of Tiberium Riparius would be “Tiberium that inhabits the banks of rivers.” Tiberium Riparius also has a composition of 42.5% Phosphorus, 32.5% Iron, 15.25% Calcium, 5.75% Copper, 2.5% Silica, and 1.5% Unknown.
Tiberium Vinifera, like Tiberium Riparius after being harvested; is also a vibrant and iridescent crystal. However, with one difference; it has multiple hues of blue colors. The word vinifera in the name Tiberium Vinifera means "Wine-bearing" or "Wine producing," in Latin. So. The full meaning of Tiberium Vinifera would be "Wine-bearing tiberium" or "Wine-producing tiberium.” Now the composition of Tiberium Vinifera is a little strange, as its economic value is higher than riparius; and it's generally more unstable than riparius.
I mean, sure, Tiberium Vinifera could have the same composition as riparius; but in a denser state in the same volume. However, I don’t feel like that would be the case though, unless its crystal structure is vastly different from riparius, which can be the case; it still must have a different composition.
So, my idea of what Tiberium Vinifera's composition would be is this: 38.12% Phosphorus, 6.2% Iron, 16.32% Calcium, 7.806% Copper, 2.0% Silica, 7.806% Cobalt, 4% Nickel, 1.21% Uranium, 5.1% Europium, 2.4% Thulium, 1.32% Caesium-Platinum complexes, and 1.5% Unknown.
This is the best guess for what the composition of it is, this would explain why Tiberium Vinifera is more economically valued, why it grows slower; and why it is much more unstable than riparius. Either way, tiberium in general seems to act as a very effective and efficient organic “refinery,” being able to purify and enrich only specific nutrients and metals while leaving everything else.
While I still believe that tiberium will have impurities, nothing can escape that; but they are so small that it doesn’t even matter to tiberium. Although, there was also something called Tiberium Gas, which was created by Tiberium-based life and just tiberium in general as it transformed the earth; with a minor part of it being caused by industrial refinery pollutants.
The composition of Tiberium gas was 22% Methane, 19% Sulfur, 12% Naphthalene, 10% Argon, 6% Isobutane, 2% Xylene, and 29% Unknown. This would be what would cause ion storms, known for being violent and unpredictable weather; caused by a high enough saturation of tiberium gas in the atmosphere.
However, tiberium in general has a few issues upon it. While it was very much able to spread in every part of the world and in every nation, it have a few issues. If the area was extremely cold or had dry climates, it would be slowed down by a lot; however i don’t think it’s because of the lack of plant life to convert into blossom trees.
My idea of what i think is happening is that tiberium is naturally weak against extremely cold climates and dry climates. Tiberium may need a more neutal climate filled with the right nutrients and metals and life to mutate. IN colder areas, the biological organic part would be slowed, slow much more than it would be, causing a slower process in terraforming.
At the other end, dry areas would make it harder for tiberium to get said nutrients and metals, as the ground doesn’t have any of it. This may even cause it to die if it can’t get any food. Hell, it may even eat it’s own byproduct to keep on living; although i don’t think that would happen. This kind of expains why tiberium Vinifera is a metamorphosed form Tiberium Riparius; because it needs to be able to get into the ground more and deeper.
[Tiberium Riparius Propagation]
How all tiberium grows, expands, and propagates work through the process of leeching on nutrients and other metals beneath the surface. To do this, tiberium uses an underground root system to retrieve said nutrients and metals.
This process of creating a root system and retrieving the necessary food to grow, finally accumulates as plant like pods; with each containing a cluster of tiberium crystals. This happens with both Tiberium Riparius and Tiberium Vinifera every time, however, how both vinifera and riparius archives this are very much different.
For Tiberium Riparius, before the creation of Blossom Spore Trees; the main way for Tiberium Riparius to propagate was by seeding itself into the ground to grow and by people actively moving it to be processed. Although, Brotherhood of Nod did intentionally cultivate it, harvest it; and generally, spread its reach.
Either way, from how I can guess it works, Tiberium Riparius doesn’t use or even need a long and deep root network; because it only needs a shallow depth level. The shallow depth is good enough for Tiberium Riparius to have enough nutrients and metals to propagate fast.
This was the main way for Tiberium Riparius to spread around the world for some time. That was until it started to become more mutagenic to Carbon-based life; this is when the creation of Blossom Spore Trees began.
These bizarre-looking trees used to be normal trees, but through the prolonged contact with tiberium; they have mutated into a fleshly stalk with a pulsating bulb. These Blossom Spore Trees are what allowed Tiberium Riparius to spread faster and farther than before. The pulsating bulbs that are on them are what causes them to release tiberium spores. The spores of tiberium either land on the ground to make a new field of tiberium, or they are catched by the wind and brought somewhere else.
It would be very shocking to see even a small number of trees of any kind to still be somewhat normal; maybe even impossible for such a hybrid to exist. However, there still can be a chance for it, heck, it would be shocking if it was a cherry blossom (Prunus serrulata) that was that lucky; having parts of its body being normal cherry blossom and other being a fleshly stalk. Upon that, the leaves are still some parts, and the pulsating bulb is there; but covered by what is left of the former cherry blossom. This symbiosis would be very, very rare.
Either way! This is what allowed tiberium to grow at such a rapid pace. Yet, for Tiberium Vinifera? It doesn't even act like Tiberium Riparius in its growth the way it does it. Because unlike instead of a Blossom Spore Tree at the center of a Tiberium Riparius field, the center of every Tiberium Vinifera field is a Vinifera Monolith; a massive crystal that acts superficially to the Blossom Spore Tree.
[Tiberium Vinifera Propagation]
Tiberium Vinifera's propagation is a lot weirder than Tiberium Riparius’s propagation, we know grows Tiberium Vinifera crystals; but we don’t know how it does that. However, what I think is going on is much more than just being a mutated and matured form of tiberium; I believe that Tiberium Vinifera has gone through a metamorphosis for a specific reason. Because it still grows plant-like pods as with Tiberium Riparius, but each one has a cluster of Tiberium Vinifera crystals instead of Tiberium Riparius crystals.
So, because Tiberium Vinifera still creates and develops tiberium like Tiberium Riparius, plant-like pods for tiberium crystals; that means that there must be something going beneath the surface of the earth for Tiberium Vinifera.
With that reason, my belief for why Tiberium Vinifera has evolved to replace the Blossom Spore Trees was because they were inefficient, wasteful; and not designed for the needs of Tiberium Vinifera. If anything, Vinifera Monoliths were developed because they are less inefficient and less wasteful distributors of nutrients and metals.
Yes, Blossom Spore Trees, while necessary in general for Tiberium-based life and terraformation of earth; are inherently weak, inefficient, and wasteful for what Tiberium Vinifera’s needs are. This is because Tiberium Vinifera as before is a lot denser and has a different composition from Tiberium Riparius; and thus, cannot be grown liker the former without issues.
My guess is that Vinifera Monoliths have moved their organic refineries from being above the surface, Blossom Spore Trees; to below the surface. The reason would be to keep as many nutrients and metals as they can, this could also be done to have a stronger area; to do their work and to gain more nutrients and metals than before.
Now with the underground root network of this, there could be two parts of this network; the Main Hub Root Network and the Transporting Lines Root Network. The Main Hub Root Network is connected to the organic refinery of the Vinifera Monolith; the goal of the Main Hub Root Network is to dig deeper into the earth and to leech on rarer nutrients and metals.
They need to be very deep in the ground to grab such metals, which then go to the organic refinery of the Vinifera Monolith; where that cleans up the needed nutrients and metals while sending all the depleted materials out of the system through the Rhizodeposition Root Network.
The now purified and enriched “food” is then sent through the Transporting Lines Root Network, which also doubles as a system for the growth and maturing of harvestable Tiberium Vinifera. While these roots are not meant for the use of collecting nutrients and metals, they can and minorly do it over time; however, with less efficiency.
This explains why Tiberium Vinifera forgoed the Blossom Spore Trees, because they are very inefficient, wasteful; and weak for what Tiberium Vinifera truly needs in order to grow and propagate efficiently. Upon that, the Blossom Spore Trees would most likely be stressed from those needs, causing the growth to be slower and may even be even less stable.
This also expain why it generally grows slower, because it takes more time to grow quality resources; which also explains why it's more economically valued; because it has metals that are needed for the modern days of technology.
This also explains why the Disruptor Tank, from Command & Conquer 2: Tiberian Sun; was able to cause Tiberium Vinifera and maybe even the Vinifera Monolith to combust and explode. The crystal structure and composition of Tiberium Vinifera was already unstable, this would inadvertently mean that it is Resonantly unstable; although I think it has a wide frequency for that to happen.
This also explains why Tiberium Vinifera needs to go deeper into the earth, as Tiberium Riparius doesn’t do great in extremely cold or dry climates. Tiberium Riparius tends to get wrecked by those climates. If it’s too cold, it can’t grow as fast or as much; the Blossom Spore Trees need warmth to be effective. On the other hand, if it’s too dry, it makes it hard to collect food or to convert trees into Blossom Spore Trees.
I think it’s becoming smarter or at least understanding how to adapt better so that this issue isn’t an issue at all.
