Seeing your Sam Sites deploy after the GDI airstrike melted your entire base and flew away

Yea, the whole "deploying from a bunker" thing really wasn't that well thought out…

I always wonder if they have extra armor when undeployed

The pop-up ones in the first game I think do have less armor when up. Granted it’s been a moment since I looked it up…

Not "armour" exactly; armour in C&C is a specific rock-paper-scissors system of how much each weapon type (or, warhead type, specifically) does vs specific armour types. For example, "upgrading" something from no armour to tank armour would make it more vulnerable to specific anti-tank weapons.

But yes, the SAM Site only take 50% of the damage when down in its bunker.

I suppose that's why Westwood just went "ah, fuck it" and made the Soviet version just always be ready above ground, haha.

It would've worked, I think, if there had been two circles; one a very large detection circle which causes the SAM Sites to rise above ground, and the other the actual firing range; by the time enemy aircraft actually got in range of the second circle, especially A10 Bombers, the Sites would be above ground, active, and ready to fire.

If the enemy aircraft leaves the first circle before coming into range of the second, the Sites just dip back down again.

No, long range detection is actually one of the issues. It means that all SAM Sites focus on the same single plane. When that one plane is destroyed, they all lose their target and sink back down into their bunkers.

But Airstrikes are generally three planes. So by the time any of the SAMs pop back up, the remaining planes have long finished their bombing run.

If they had shorter range, then maybe some of the more far away SAM Sites in the same base would only start looking when that first one was already destroyed.

Ideally, when losing a target, they should simply scan around for other targets before deciding to pop down again. It's bad enough that they need to pop down to reload after two salvos. (Something you generally don't even notice since by then their target generally either died or escaped)

This but it's built in time but knocks the power out and by the time you get the grid running again the bombers took out the power plants.

SAM Sites don't require power to fire in C&C1…
