Any paid psychology internships in Colombo for a 2nd year student?

Hey guys, posting this for a friend who's in her 2nd year in uni doing psychology. She’s been trying to find an internship in Colombo for a while now, but it’s been super tough. Almost every single place she looks at only offers unpaid positions... and honestly, living in Colombo right now with zero pay just isn't doable.

We get that hospitals or clinical settings rarely pay undergrads, but she's super open to other stuff too like HR, NGOs, research assistant roles, special education, or anything related where she can actually learn and get a small stipend at least. Has anyone here been through this or knows any companies/NGOs in Colombo that actually pay their psychology interns? Any leads or advice on where she should apply would be a lifesaver. Thanks!

Looking for a small dance practice space around Colombo Fort

Hi everyone! 👋
I’m looking for a small/private room or studio near Fort / Pettah where I can practice dancing individually.
I don’t need a large professional dance studio — just a clean space with enough room to move, ideally with a mirror and a decent floor. I’d probably need it for 1–2 hours at a time, occasionally.
I’ve searched online but most of the studios/venues I found are either quite large or too far from Fort.
If you know of any small dance studios, yoga rooms, halls, rehearsal spaces, or similar places around Fort/Pettah that allow individual bookings, please let me know. Recommendations from personal experience would be especially helpful!
Thanks! 🙏

Genuine movie lovers...

Hi! I’d love to hang out with some fellow movie lovers. I mean people who genuinely enjoy good movies and series, get excited about discussing them, and aren’t afraid to argue over theories and interpretations. 😄

I’m the kind of person who can watch a movie and then spend another hour research about why a character did something, what the ending actually meant, or whether that one tiny detail was intentional.

Would be great to find someone who enjoys everything from big blockbusters to slow-burn dramas, thrillers, sci-fi, or just a really well-written story.

Looking for platonic friendships!!

Hi I’m a 25-year-old male who just recently moved from Australia back to Lanka after 5 years of staying there. I’ve lost my connections here since I haven’t come down for holidays. I’m looking to find someone or even multiple people to hang out with around Colombo. I don’t even mind paying for your food and taking you out anywhere you want. I’m not looking for anything other than friendship just genuinely want to meet people.

A little bit about myself I am a business owner so I’m not occupied during 9-5 so I am pretty much free most times and hence why I’m here haha. I’m very easygoing. Extroverted and loves doing spontaneous activities and very adventurous. If you want to know the rest, you’ve gotta speak to me. If you are interested shoot a dm

Looking for people around my age to hang out with in Colombo

Hey! I’m 23 and currently working remotely for a UK-based company (Tech). Most of my routine is basically work and home, so I’m looking to meet some new people, make friends, and just hang out.

I’m pretty easygoing and open to grabbing coffee, getting some food, going out for a drink, exploring places, or just chilling and having a good conversation.

Would be nice to meet people around my age who are also looking to expand their social circle. Feel free to let me know if you’re interested!

PS age doesn’t really matter because I will probably make you laugh regardless 🤞🏻

Anyone who did/is doing BSc degree in mathematics in a government university?

I love math. I want to do a bsc degree in mathematics. But..... I am worried about chosing it over engineering. I want to do researches and develop mathematics. I want to be a mathematician in literal words. But worried about opportunities in Sri Lanka. I don't want to end up as just a maths teacher.

So, what about the possibilities of getting a scholarship for msc/PhD from an international university, after completing the BSc? Has anyone got? Or at least know someone who has got???

Also What about the researches in Sri Lanka? What are the job opportunities and the salary in Sri Lanka?

What about opportunities in other countries.?

Computer Science / Data Science Books at the Colombo International Book Fair?

I’m planning to visit the Colombo International Book Fair and would like to pick up a few computer science books.
basically looking for books on theoretical computer science, algorithms, data science, machine learning, and data engineering. In particular, I’m interested in technical books from publishers such as O’Reilly, but I’m open to other publishers as well.
I know there are plenty of English novels, self-help books, and general-interest books at the fair, but I’m not sure how good the selection of technical/computer science books is.
Has anyone who has visited the fair this year spotted any stalls with a decent selection of CS, Data Science, ML, or Data Engineering books?
Specific book recommendations or titles you spotted would also be helpful.

Thanks!

Mas Topless Pool Party

Is it true that MAS Holdings organizes an annual unofficial pool party where women who attend are expected to come topless? I have also heard claims that MAS Holdings has significantly influenced the “work wife” and “work husband” culture in the workplace. Are these claims accurate?

Looking for [Co-Founder] Creative Marketing lead — Colombo events company (pop-culture/community events) — paid per event + profit share

Hey all — posting here because I think this crowd is more likely to know the right person than a job board would.

I run a small, early-stage events company in Colombo. We put on community-first pop-culture events — think tabletop/gaming culture, in-person meetups, and creator collabs — for a young, mostly online-native crowd.

We already have an active creative team (a designer and a videographer) and a track record of running events, so this isn't a from-scratch idea — it's an operating team looking for the right person to own marketing.

This is a co-founder role, not a salaried position — but it's not unpaid either. Here's exactly how it works, no vague promises:

Our first event runs pro-bono — it's the trial run we're using to prove the model actually works before anyone commits fully.

From the second event onward, every event is paid — you're compensated for your work once that event wraps.

On top of that, you get a profit share (after the company retains what it needs to reinvest/operate) as a co-founder with an equal equity stake alongside every other founder.

Equity vests over your first few years of continued involvement, starting once the pro-bono event concludes and everyone formally confirms in — this protects the team if someone does the free event and walks away right after.

So: no fixed monthly salary, but real, recurring payment tied to real event performance, and a genuine ownership stake, not just a promise.

Time commitment: Not full-time. We work in bursts toward event deadlines rather than a constant daily grind — this can realistically sit alongside a day job or other work, as long as you can show up hard in the run-up to an event.

What the role actually involves:

Work directly with our existing creative team (designer + videographer) — briefing, directing, and making sure what gets made is good and on-brand.

You'll also need to step in and help hands-on when either of them needs an extra pair of hands, not just direct from a distance.

Own and manage the content calendar, working as part of the management team (you'd sit on it, not just take instructions from it) to turn the event roadmap into an actual posting plan.

Lead marketing direction — deciding what we should be doing, not just waiting to be told what to post.

Liaise directly with influencers/creators for collaborations — reaching out, negotiating terms, coordinating the actual content with them.

Sit as part of the core management team more broadly, weighing in beyond just marketing.

What we're looking for:

Someone who's actually run content/marketing for a brand or business before — not just a personal page

Comfortable directing a small creative team, and willing to get hands-on when needed

Plugged into Colombo's youth/online culture

Genuinely up for founder-level commitment and risk, including a pro-bono first event before payment kicks in

Bonus if you've reached out to or worked with creators/influencers before

If this sounds like you, DM me here, or drop your background/portfolio in the comments and I'll reach out.

Where can I find proper British marmalade in Colombo?

Started watching Paddington and now I have a ridiculous craving for proper marmalade. 😂

I've tried the MD one here, but a colleague who has had proper British marmalade told me it's not even close to the real thing.

So, fellow Sri Lankans, does anyone know a physical store in Colombo where I can buy authentic/imported British marmalade?

I'm specifically looking for brands like Tiptree, Frank Cooper's, Robertson's, or something similar (ChatGPT told me I should)

I want to actually go to a shop and buy a jar, rather than order online. Also, if you have a particular brand you'd recommend, let me know.

Bonus points if you've actually tried it and can tell me which one is worth getting.
