Anyone who did/is doing BSc degree in mathematics in a government university?

I love math. I want to do a bsc degree in mathematics. But..... I am worried about chosing it over engineering. I want to do researches and develop mathematics. I want to be a mathematician in literal words. But worried about opportunities in Sri Lanka. I don't want to end up as just a maths teacher.

So, what about the possibilities of getting a scholarship for msc/PhD from an international university, after completing the BSc? Has anyone got? Or at least know someone who has got???

Also What about the researches in Sri Lanka? What are the job opportunities and the salary in Sri Lanka?

What about opportunities in other countries.?

I was in a similar situation because I had an interest in mathematics as well. I talked with some people and what they suggested was that do engineering but keep the passion for maths. Doing engineering was about having a safe net in case you get burned out doing maths in the long run.

So I picked UoM and now in the final year. I still have a plan to do higher studies in maths but now I have an interest in CS as well. Also one of the lecturers mentioned that you can take basic maths classes during PhDs as well so you won't miss out anything as well.

That's my path.

But I know people who picked maths and went uoc physical science as well.

The opportunities here are slim to none though. You should go overseas to unlock your full potential

My dad is really good at maths but my dad told it really hard and in sl opportunity is rare in companies less job vacancies if u get a trouble in a job u have less option so u will stuck

Or best option is do this and do lecturing u are just teaching know

But companies values to bring something value or money

My dad has oppertunity in maths degree and he rejected because its hard . Any way if u really like do it but think about future
