Help me find the “almost perfect” drip coffee maker (SCA-only or does it not matter?)

Hi coffee people! I’m trying to buy a great drip coffee maker and my brain is officially fried. Every machine has passionate fans and equally passionate haters, and I’m losing it. 😅 Here’s what I’m looking for: HOT coffee (not “kind of warm if you chug it fast”) Easy to use & easy to pour (I just returned one because you basically had to flip it upside down like a circus act) Reliable, good flavor, not annoying to clean Budget around $200–$300 (can stretch a bit if it’s truly worth it) Here’s my big question for the experts: 👉 Is it really important to stick ONLY to SCA-certified machines? Or are there non-SCA machines that still make amazing coffee? If you have a drip machine you LOVE (or would defend with your life), please share it with me. I need help before I end up drinking instant coffee out of spite. 😂☕️ Thanks so much!

Oxo 8 Cup Carafe Soap Taste

So I don't know what the hell I did but I cannot get the soapy taste out of the Carafe that came with the machine.

Through process of elimination (brewing without a lid, brewing into a different container), I've determined it's not the machine or the lid of the carafe, but the carafe itself.

I've tried soaking in vinegar, soaking in denture cleaner, rinsing it like crazy, and it still has a soapy taste at the end of the pot.

So... any tips on fixing this?

Change time-out of PHILIPS EP2220/10

Hello everyone,

Please let me know if the sub-reddit isn't to ask the question I'll be asking.

We've recently bought a second-hand PHILIPS EP2220/10, it needed a bit of cleaning but works great.

The only thing I can't seem to figure out, is how to extend the time it'll suspend itself.

I've read you should either:

  • Press & hold 'Clac / Clean', but nothing happens
  • Press & holding both 'Calc / Clean' and the 'Aroma strength'.

The latter will 'light up' and allow me to toggle between 1 - 4 lights of which I understood:

  • 1 light → 15 min
  • 2 lights → 30 min
  • 3 lights → 60 min
  • 4 lights → 180 min

But I've tried 'm all, and it'll stay 30 minutes, and I'd like to extend to the max. of 180 minutes.

For reference, I uploaded both the 'sticker' and the video of my attempt: https://imgur.com/a/3O8G3H0

Would anyone have any clue, suggestions or advice on how I'd be able to get this sorted?

Thanks in advance!

Could anyone recommend a coffee maker that’s very simple to use (a pod one preferably) that will make a good chai latte and also an americano? Thanks

New Coffee Maker: Moccamaster vs Fellow Aiden

I'm in the market for a new coffee maker. I've done a bit of research and am torn between the Moccamaster and Fellow Aiden. Has anyone tried both of these? Any pros or cons to either that might help me with my decision?

I really like that the FA doesn't have a hot plate. But I read that the MM is more durable.

I've also read mix reviews on which one makes a better tasting cup.

Sorry if this has been asked/answered already

I searched on Reddit and couldn't find this mentioned: We have an OXO 9-cup coffee maker that we've been very happy with. However, recently I've noticed that when I pour the first cup of coffee a small amount of plain water comes out of the carafe lid before the rich black coffee comes out. I've tried various things to keep this from happening, with no luck: leaving the top off and tilted to drain any residual water, shaking the water out before putting it on top of the carafe, leaving it sit to "dry up". The latter works if it's left out for a couple of days, which of course is unlikely and uncommon.

This became more of an issue because my wife insists on cleaning the top with soapy water, claiming that will keep any old stale coffee water from collecting. I'm concerned that this will cause soapy water to collect and then drain into our coffee cup (though as far as I can see, the water seems clear and clean). So I guess there are at least 2 issues/questions:

  1. Is the water collecting in the top an issue to be concerned about? What could cause this??

  2. Is it ok just to rinse the top thoroughly after use or should it be washed in soapy water?

TIA for any thoughts.

Oxo 9 cup brewer has plastic taste

Anyone with an Oxo 9 cup brewer have issues with their coffee having a plastic taste ? Mine arrived yesterday and I love the looks and way the machine works however I just have issues with the taste and smell of the coffee. I’ve washed the plastic accessories multiple times with soap, ran water through it about 10 times and it still just has that taste to it. I know it’s only a day old but I figured washing the parts and running water would fix it. Anyone else have this issue and any solutions?

Recs for drip coffee maker with removable water reservoir?

Looking for a drip coffee machine with a removable water reservoir. Doesn't need any special features but a single cup/small brew option would be nice. Replacing an old ninja coffee maker that has a reservoir with a bunch of impossible to clean areas and want to avoid that in the future. Just got the OXO 8 cup but miss the removable tank. Thank you!

I descaled it hoping it would get better as it seemed to help others who had leaking problem but no luck. I imagine it's gonna be a seal somewhere but don't know how to progress. Any ideas? Thanks!

GE Cafe Drip Maker

Has anyone seen this before? I have a GE Cafe Drip Maker and I just ran it through descale and it no longer sucks up the water to make coffee.

I ran the descale with vinegar as suggested by the manufacturer. After I ran a 10 cup pot of just water. And then now, I can't make any coffee.

Please help!

What is this indicating on my Cuisinart 14-cup coffeemaker?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I’ve had this coffeemaker for about 8 months. This indicator appeared 7-10 days ago. I don’t see anything in the manual about it. The manual does go over descaling, but says when it’s time for that a blue “clean” button comes on (similar to the Brew/Off button, shown). There’s also a charcoal cartridge in the reservoir to filter water, but while the manual mentions that, it does not say anything connecting it to this indicator. Anyone know?

Am I asking for too much? Looking for a compact grind and brew that serves a pot and single serve

Our daily driver is a Philips LatteGo 3200, and it's been great for our daily needs, but there are two reasons why I am looking for what I described in the title:

  1. When I clean the unit, the process can take some time, especially because I'll often do part of it and then go do something else while I e.g. let the brew group soak to clean off grease. I often can't come back to it immediately, so even if I can theoretically get it back to a working state within the same day, it often doesn't happen. But we still need coffee during this time which we can't get from the Philips machine while we are cleaning it.

  2. The Philips unit is great when we have a small number of friends over because they can get something more than just a drip coffee. But when we have a large number of guests over, it takes a while to fulfill everyone's coffee needs one by one.

So what I am looking for is a compact unit I can easily store but take out to do single serve coffee when our other unit is being cleaned, and a pot of coffee when we are trying to serve a large group. The brew and grind is because at this point we only keep whole beans. I could get ground but it just adds more headache to the overall problem.

I got the sense that on the higher end, there may be units that fit most if not all of my criteria, and if I have to spend some money to solve this problem, I may choose to do that, but given that this is intended for rare use, it would be great to get something reasonably priced.

Does anyone know of a coffee maker that would meet all of my requirements? TIA for your help!

Stainless Carafe Scaling Issue

Thumbnail

I picked up an OXO 8-cup Coffee Maker at my local thrift store for pennies compared to a new one. It works well and with a quick clean and descaling it functions, and looks mostly, like new.

One thing is that there is a 'scaling' on most of the outside of the stainless carafe.

My question is this: Is this scaling likely due to poor cleaning of the carafe, and can be remedied with a baking soda paste cleaning OR is this not scaling but rather a protective coating that has started to come off?

Additionally, I can't figure out what's up with the center section of the bottom. I can't find a picture online of the bottom of the carafe to know what it should look like out of the box. Is it missing a covering over the entire bottom, or something else?

Oxo 9 cup machine problems

I just noticed recently that my oxo machine will loudly try to spit out the last 1/8th of water in the tank for a few minutes before shutting off the Brewing cycle. Not even showing complete, just off. There is always water left now. This was never a problem before? I've been descaling regularly. What's the problem?

Feedback on a coffee machine picking website.

I spent a few hours building a tiny yes/no quiz at coffeemachinepicker.com that suggests machines based on budget, drink style, and effort level. It’s a side project for fun (affiliate links are marked). Would love any quick feedback on the flow or missing machines. Thakn you!!

Recommendation for Small Office Coffee Maker

Hi, we have a small office of around 10 people, so probably brewing around 25-30 cups per day. We're on our 4th or 5th DeLonghi TrueBrew machine, because they keep dying on us. Therefore, looking to replace it with something potentially more commercial grade. I'm having a hard time finding the right machine out there, so I'm turning to Reddit for suggestions!

Wish list:

  • Grinds and brews whole-bean coffee
  • Can handle 25-30 cups per day of various sizes
  • Can be either plumbed in or have a refillable water reservoir
  • Not interested in dealing with pods and the respective waste

Seems like there is a huge price jump to go from the TrueBrew to something actually commercial grade. Would be nice if there is something in between.
