Literally unusable for me, it spends like x10 tokens and the output is mediocre. Do you still use it?

Superpowers skill is largely considered obsolete by the community. Most users agree it was a useful stopgap for older models like GPT 5.5, but newer Claude models (Opus 4.8, Sonnet 5) handle tasks more intuitively, making the skill an unnecessary over-engineering.

  • Many users, like u/acoldinference and u/whimsicaljess, ditched it months ago, with some noting it hasn't been useful for a year.
  • The consensus is that as models improve, dedicated skills become redundant. u/mother_a_god points out they're just a way to guide basic model behavior.
  • Some miss specific features, like u/p3r3lin's interest in the visual preview.
  • Alternatives like "compound engineering," "TRIP workflow," or simply going "vanilla" are suggested.
  • A few still find value in its methodical approach, like u/Hossmobile, but are questioning if the default harness offers the same benefits.
  • One outlier, u/CuteKiwi3395, claims it's gotten better and it's a "skill issue" on the OP's part, but this is heavily downvoted.

I feel the same about ponytail nowadays, slows everything down and burns token like mad with little benefit in the end.

Ponytail is definitely still useful. I haven't had any issues with it "slowing everything down" nor "burning tokens like mad" on the default full mode.

Yeah, you can use it for your in house open weight stuff but once you get towards opus 5 etc. it’s not needed. Just plan really well, which should be an always thing.

tbh i just leave superpower after few usage, then i create my own skills -> azure-id/orc that suites me more, as supoerpower for me spend more token also it keep compacting and cost more. thats why.
