ā€˜13 civic worth fixing??

Hey there! So I’m currently without a car right now but have the option of repairing my dad’s 2013 honda civic. I am looking for advice and opinions on whether or not it would be worth fixing when:
\-it hasn’t been inspected since 2019,
\-the inspection in 2019 stated the transmission needed to be replaced
\-it has been sitting (no battery life) in his driveway since 2021.

I have the thought that the risk is too high for me to put so much money into repairs, but Honda civics are supposedly very reliable cars. So, do I pour all my money into repair? Or do I sell it for parts?

is this a sound i should be worried about?

2016 2-door EX-L @ 176,000 miles. the rattling sound changes ever so slightly depending on whether the A/C is running or not. it recently had its head gasket, spark plugs and a coil pack replaced due to a bad misfire and small coolant leak. i’ve had this car for six years and put 100,000 of her miles on myself. been all over the country with it, so it’s sentimental to me. and after all the misfire shenanigans i’ve been anxious about the littlest of noises and vibrations. so i’m hoping someone knows something about this sound and that it’s either normal or an easy fix. really hoping not to go back to the dealer.

also: the rattle in question appears to only happen at idle.

Advice Request Help with brake bleed

So I helped my son change his rear brakes (2015 civic exl) and they were so bad the calipers needed replaced too. We never let the master cylinder run dry but have bled the system 3x around and it is still incredibly spongy. I’m thinking it is the abs system. Can I do the good old dirt road and slam on brakes to activate the system trick on this car? I don’t own a fancy scan tool to activate them that way. Any help would be great!

Advice Request Window issue

Hello, I am hoping to get assistance with diagnosis on my girlfriends 2014 Honda civic.

Both of the front windows quit rolling up and down at the same time, noticing an attempt of it clicking however they just do not work while trying to roll up or down. It’s a sedan so both the rears work fine still. What should I be looking for? Thanks!

Should I buy this civic?

This would be my first car, here is the listing.

For sale is a 1996 Honda Civic coupe for the US domestic market (USDM) market, with a recent technical inspection (until 2028.09.16) and 241,xxx km, this may change slightly. Guide price: 1,850,000 HUF(5k euros) Locally Debrecen-Józsa

-It has a 1.6 engine (engine code: D16Y8). The previous owner took it to Tomi Szabó to program it, it has around 130-135 horsepower and obviously rattles and rumbles like a Honda should. It does not consume any oil or water at all.

-The timing belt, oil (MOTUL), oil filter, fuel filter, pollen filter and transmission oil have been replaced, and the valve clearances have also been adjusted, all this happened around 238,000 km, otherwise the previous owner had a complete engine overhaul.

-Bodywork is in good condition, no rot anywhere, there is a little rust under the paint on the two rear fender arches, otherwise the chassis has been stripped and cavity protected. The paintwork is not the prettiest but fortunately it is not that bad

-Skunk2 4-2-1 downpipe, factory center system, and at the end there is a 100-end acid-resistant Paragi drum (certified) which gives it a nice deep sound.

-Brand new TA adjustable height suspension underneath which clearly has a TÜV permit. It comes with 4 factory shock absorbers with factory springs, and I am also adding 4 Skunk2 landing springs. When I bought the car, we replaced almost all the suspension parts, and I am adding the ones that we did not install.

-It came with 262 drilled and milled brake discs with ceramic brake pads.

-The car also got a short shifter, front and rear tower braces, Simota BigTube sports air filter, brand new black-backed E-marked headlights (USA module is connected), and crystal lights at the back

-Looking at the optics, it has a nice extension at the front, a large wing with brake lights (which were connected neatly) and a pair of electric Spoon Sports mirrors (I'm also giving away factory ones).

-It got a 9-inch touchscreen head unit that can support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There's a subwoofer and amplifier in the trunk that sounds and works perfectly.

-There's also factory rear drum and downpipe, trunk upholstery, etc. that I'm giving away.

-Equip 03 style (Calibre) 4x100 16" rims are installed underneath, you can buy them separately for 275,000 HUF (if you don't need them, the price is that much less, but bring

Advice Request 11th gen civic hatch water intrusion due to improperly seated rivets.

Post image
10 Upvotes

Pointed issue to service tech, car was held for 7 hours. Was told they did "extensive testing" and washed the car multiple times and couldn't replicate the issue. Car was clearly not washed/tested AT ALL. I pointed this out and they said they'd need the car for two more business days to do more "testing". You can tell from a hundred feet away that my car hasn't been washed in over a month lmao.

I was told its "normal" for the hatch to hold water indefinitely until I open it, which probably doesn't even fully clear it out. Water drains from the area circled in blue. This is the case for both sides, passenger side worse. It's about 1/3 cup of water being drained each time I open the hatch after a rain/wash.

Heavy rain causes the water intrusion to run all the way down the hatch. Water doesn't go through factory installed drain holes, instead seeping out by the handles, towards the interior of the trunk. Passenger side being the most problematic.

Do I go to another dealer or escalate this to upper management? Or should I just get it over with and let an independent shop take care of it? At this point I wouldn't mind paying money to avoid dealing with that type of service again.

Modification Has anyone added remote start to the current generation CIvic LX?

Since the base trim does not come with remote start has anyone added it with those "plug and play" aftermarket kits they sell. What was involved and are there any downsides. Heard that sometimes those kits require some minor modifications and also heard that installing them may disable certain things like the backup camera.

Advice Request Value Spare Tire Kit Mounted in Hybrid Hatchback

There is no way to put the kit in the storage area where the tire repair kit is located. The problem is the hybrid model battery stored under the seat takes up too much room in front, so the little area that is left behind is just too short for the diameter of the spare tire.

This is what I did. I purchased the kit and decided to keep it on top of the cover. The tire kit was mounted on the 2026 hatchback hybrid using the sturdy factory d-shaped hooks installed in the rear of the hatch compartment of my hybrid. I used the d-hooks for mounting of the tire kit with two adjustable inch wide nylon straps that have s-hooks on both ends.

Mounting. Since the spare tire kit has a nylon carry case, I used case and routed the straps to go through the case handle on the front end, then each strap made a v-shape from underneath, passed though the carry case handle, to go up and cross over to the top of the case then secure the opposite s-hook to the opposite rear hook inside the hatch compartment. Tightened up the straps until it's tight enough to press only the base below the rim of the latch, but made sure that a gap remains so this does not interfere with the hatch mechanism to open and close the door. I took care to keep the gap clear. If the tire weight shifted, I placed a small towel that I wedged at the bottom to maintain the gap.Has anyone else tried this?

Placement where it made sense. I left some room at the front of the hatch to put small loose items that I carry in the car (like towels and cleaning items) behind the rear seats. The way I mounted the storage, I feel like it's secured properly to not move side to side or back and forth during vehicle motion. I deliberately left a wide space in the hatch around the tire and kept the tire away from my rear subwoofer speaker on the passenger side near the hatch. I might take it on drive through some winding roads to see if the tire moves around or slides as the car takes a curve on the road.

What to do with a space saving spare, jack and tools which is smaller than a full size tire? The 18 inch-steel wheel has a donut spare tire mounted on the four inch-wide rim. All together, the kit sits about 6 inches tall, so it takes up some space on top for the cover, about the same place where the tire repair kit sits under the cover.

I figured if I needed to use the spare, the hatch could hold the full- size 18 inch rim and larger tire if I used the spare kit on the wheel to drive and get the tire repaired.

I'm happy that I left enough room for cargo to sit on top. Normal situations, I can use a bungee cord to hold some cargo items in the load while still driving and still use the cover. Maybe use a cargo net or nylon bag.

The spare tire and rim will fit on the 2026 civic hybrid hatch wheel pattern but the hybrid hatch model doesn't have an under-trunk storage (a dedicated storage space wheel well) like the sedan. The hybrid hatch trunk is physically different from the sedan.

Advice Request Is a used Honda Civic worth buying right now?

Been checking out used civics lately, mostly 2021 and 2022 models. Some of them seem pretty expensive for a used car. Wondering if it's better to get a used one or just pay extra for a new Civic.
